The 532 foot finale was filmed in 2-strip Technicolor and was projected in Magnascope at its New York City premiere ; it is not known to have survived.
The sound version of this film is lost. A silent copy of the film is preserved, but is missing several scenes.
The historical Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor (reigned 1790-1792) was the penultimate emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Empire was further fragmented in the Napoleonic Wars and was officially abolished in 1806, 14 years following Leopold's death.
Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor was a supporter of enlightened absolutism. During his brief reign, Leopold tried to enact a large number of political and administrative reforms, following the modernizing ideals of the Age of the Englightment. He died suddenly in 1792, widely suspected to have been poisoned.
Leopold II was the second Holy Roman Emperor from the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, a female-line cadet house of the House of Habsburg. He was a son of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor (reigned 1745-1765) from the House of Loraine and Maria Theresa, Archduchess of Austria and Queen of Hungary (reigned 1740-1780) of the House of Habsburg. His brothers Joseph II (reigned 1765-1790) and Francis II (reigned 1792-1806) were also Holy Roman Emperors.
