FAQ

Oh, Mr. Porter!

FAQ

The exterior sequences were filmed at Cliddesden Halt, a station on the branch line between Basingstoke and Alton which had been closed in 1936. Gainsborough Pictures hired the disused station for three weeks and the studio's set designers spent some time making it look suitably ramshackle (apparently, even though it hadn't been used for some years and had fallen into a state of disrepair, it still wasn't considered abandoned enough to create a convincing Buggleskelly). Nothing now remains of the station although the outline of the station platform can be discerned in a field, several bits of the station's distinctive concrete fence posts are visible and the beech trees that lined the same platform are still standing. Cliddesden is just south of Basingstoke.

According to Tony Harris, writing on Steve Day's Will Hay Page (www.willhay.co.uk), it's at Tertling in Essex.
