One of over 700 Paramount Productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since. Its earliest documented telecast took place in Boston Saturday 12 October 1958 on WBZ (Channel 4); it first aired in Omaha Sunday 22 February 1959 on KETV (Channel 7); after ten months back on the shelf, it was aired again in St. Louis 20 December 1959 on KMOX (Channel 4), followed by San Francisco 3 February 1960 on KPIX (Channel 5), by Toledo 20 February 1960 on WTOL (Channel 11), by Johnstown 28 August 1960 on WJAC (Channel 6), by Los Angeles 31 October 1960 on KNXT (Channel 2), and by Philadelphia 3 December 1960 on WCAU (Channel 10).

In his 1978 Frances Farmer biographical book "Shadowlands", William Arnold stated that no prints of the film were known to exist. This has proved to be false, though it is a notably scarce film.
Paramount rented Amelia Earhart's monoplane to appear as the smuggler's plane.
Lynne Overman was scheduled to play Calico Smith, but had to leave the role to work on Poppy (1936).
