Leslie Howard and Kay Francis in Agent britannique (1934)

Trivia

Agent britannique

Edit
You can't tell, but during shooting Kay Francis had an accident in which she cut an artery in her wrist. Later biographers speculated that it was an actual suicide attempt, but there is no proof of this. Francis claimed that she accidentally locked herself out of her home and broke a window with her hand, cutting herself.
A total of 41 different sets were constructed for the film; there were 1500 cast members; 3000 rounds of ammunition was shot in the riot scenes.
Producer Jack L. Warner wanted to send a film crew to Russia for location shots, but his request was denied.
The story is based on and inspired by the experiences of Moura Budberg.
Stephen says to Lady Carrister that Zeppelins are dropping bombs on Regent Street. The first aerial threat to the UK came from German airships called Zeppelins. At 11,000 feet, Zeppelins could turn off their engines and drift silently to make surprise attacks. On Jan 19, 1915, Zeppelins struck for the first time. Successive damaging Zeppelin attacks in 1915 and 1916 caused public outcry and government embarrassment. UK defense switched from searchlights and anti-aircraft guns to airplanes. Incendiary ammunition for aircraft was developed for bringing down the hydrogen-filled airships. By 1917 Germany began to deploy heavy biplane bombers instead. Over the course of the war, German Zeppelins staged more than 50 attacks on the UK but at a heavy price with 77 of their 115 craft either shot down or disabled.
