A accurate little picture about life in Annapolis in the 1930s.

Acting was a little stiff but the characters were believable. Being a graduate of West Point, I cared about the real people portrayed. Most stories about the academies are not true to life. Much of this is a reflection of the times when military figures were heroes. It was a treat to see Cabot in a leading role without John Wayne. Betty Furness looked pure and pretty and intelligent as the admiral's daughter. The rest of the cast is forgettable. The magpie girl talking without a breath was irritating but that was what she was supposed to add to the story. Finally, I must comment that Jack would really survived his mis-deeds especially entering into a restricted zone. He would not have had a chance to voluntarily resign. He would have been booted out.

      • Trivia
The technical director on this film was Draper Kaufmann, although having recently graduated from the US Naval Academy, was denied a commission due to poor eyesight. He later founded the US Navy UDT teams in World War 2, the forerunner of the what is now the SEALS. He went on to become an Admiral. (From the book, "America's First Frogman.")
      • Crazy credits
Dedicated to Henry Latrobe Roosevelt, who as Assistant Secretary of the Navy keeps alive the Navy tradition begun by Theodore Roosevelt in 1895 and so gallantly continued by Franklin D. Roosevelt.
