One of the more intellectual comedies of the era.

This Larry Semon comedy is pretty ridiculous. In spite of this and the unsophisticated humor, it IS funny and made me laugh...and that's probably the most important thing.

The film begins at school It's ridiculous because all the children appear to be in their 30s....dressed like young kids. The school is an insane place...with beatings for the kids and LOTS of horrible behavior. Often, Larry seems to be on the receiving end and is a good kid....but always seems to be blamed regardless.

The scene then jumps ahead a decade and follows Larry, his chubby rival and the girl. Her father is trying to marry her off to the son of an old friend...and Larry is determined to run away with the girl instead.

The bottom line is that the film is non-stop action and laughs. While they don't always work, they come so fast that you don't really mind all that much. Dopey...but funny at the same time. My only reservations are the scenes involving the black man....not exactly politically correct or even funny.
