"Mera: Queen Of Atlantis"
DC Comics' "Mera: Queen Of Atlantis" #1, available February 28, 2018 is written by Dan Abnett and illustrated by Lan Medina, with covers by Nicola Scott and Stanley Lau:

"...as the brutal 'Atlantean Civil War' rages, 'Mera' must keep the peace between the surface world and 'Atlantis' as its newly anointed queen in exile. But when Aquaman's brother 'Orm', aka 'Ocean Master', learns of his homeland's fate, he'll stop at nothing to return to Atlantis as its king and savior..."

Actress Amber Heard plays Mera in the features "Justice League" and "Aquaman".

"It’s interesting", said Heard about her 'Mera' wardrobe. "It’s like, half a suit of armor and half scales.

The comic book character Mera debuted in DC's "Aquaman" #11 (September 1963), created by writer Jack Miller and illustrator Nick Cardy...

...as the former 'Queen of Dimension Aqua', 'Queen of Atlantis' and wife of 'Arthur Curry' aka 'Aquaman'.

In her first appearance, Mera is fleeing the criminal 'Leron', who seized control of her kingdom, when she arrives on the surface and meets the human Aquaman, who vows to help her.

But Leron captures them, imprisoning Aquaman and Mera in 'Dimension Aqua'.

Mera abdicates the throne of 'Xebel' to 'Queen V'lana', returning to Atlantis to marry Aquaman.

Stare Down The Face Of Evil With This New Close-Up Of Justice League’s Steppenwolf And His Minions
Force Friday is almost upon us, and in keeping with tradition, it’ll herald a new Star Wars merchandise line that places a particular emphasis on The Last Jedi ahead of its launch in December. But Disney and Lucasfilm’s juggernaut isn’t the only 2017 tentpole in the midst of its promotional campaign.

Case in point: Justice League. Coming hot off its impressive showing at Sdcc 2017, Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s film is currently undergoing some fairly extensive reshoots – reshoots that reportedly caused quite a few headaches due to Henry Cavill’s ongoing commitment to Mission: Impossible 6 – but that has in no way quelled Warner’s marketing push for its long-anticipated event movie.

Earlier this week, for instance, we caught a glimpse of the official 2018 Justice League calendar, along with a piece of merch dedicated to Amber Heard’s Queen of Atlantis. Now, Instagram user Brodie Perkins (via...

Justice League Calendar Offers A Sneak Peek At Superman Dressed In Blue
For a figure that has been largely absent from the Justice League marketing blitz hitherto, Superman has caused an awful lot of debate online.

Those who are fully up-to-date with the DC Extended Universe will know that Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel died in the battle against Doomsday at the tail end of Batman V Superman, leaving the world to fall into disarray without its untainted beacon of hope leading by example. Crime rates are through the roof, and to make matters worse, Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader has been totally absent from Metropolis and Gotham City. Or has he?

To prepare for the oncoming Steppenwolf, the Dark Knight and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman have been busy tracking down the remaining metahumans – namely Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg – to mount a defense against Ciaran Hinds’ alien entity and his army of winged Parademons. Steppenwolf is ostensibly the devil reincarnate,...

Queen Mera Makes Landfall In All-New Justice League Promo Image
So much attention has been paid to the core six members of Justice League – Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel included – that you’d almost be forgiven for overlooking some of the film’s big-name supporting players.

Much like how The Defenders plucks a handful of allies from Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones and tosses them into the one super-powered melting pot, Justice League has filled its cast by cherry-picking the likes of Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta) and Robin Wright (General Antiope) from Wonder Woman, along with Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Billy Crudup (Dr. Henry Allen) from the upcoming Flash solo movie, which is now going by the name Flashpoint.

Switching gears to Aquaman, and erstwhile director Zack Snyder has already confirmed the inclusion of Amber Heard’s Mera, rightful Queen of Atlantis, who will be rubbing shoulders with both Jason Momoa (Arthur Curry) and Vulko...

Mera’s On The Run In New Aquaman Set Photo
Australia’s famous Gold Coast has been playing host to Aquaman for the past few months, and during that time, budding DC fans have largely been kept in the loop thanks to a steady stream of set photos, not to mention those leaked videos showcasing Jason Momoa’s King of the Seven (and his co-stars!) in action.

Behind the lens for this one is James Wan, the esteemed filmmaker and all-around horror maestro who first made a name for himself through micro-budget scarefests in the vein of The Conjuring and Insidious. It didn’t take long before Hollywood executives took notice of Wan’s immense talent, either – Universal appointed him at the helm of Furious 7, which became the first entry in the petrolhead saga to cruise past $1 billion at the global box office.

The director has a great deal of experience in the blockbuster genre, then, and for Aquaman,...

Queen Mera Calls Upon Her Superhuman Abilities In Leaked Aquaman Set Video
With great power comes great responsibility, as a wise old man once said, but sometimes you have to call upon those superhuman abilities to put drunk fools back in line.

And that’s exactly what Queen Mera (Amber Heard) can be seen doing on the set of Aquaman. Warner Bros. and James Wan’s DC tentpole continues to lens Down Under, and after Heard herself offered up a behind-the-scenes snap of Mera and Arthur Curry between takes, YouTube user ‘bigfootkam’ has published a video of Mera in action outside The Sunken Galleon. Fast forward to the 1:10 marker and you’ll see a drunken man approach the Queen of Atlantis, only to have his beer explode at the flick of a wrist. Make no mistake, folks, Mera is not to be trifled with.

Following up on his experience helming Furious 7 for Warner Bros., this is James Wan’s first...

Justice League #24 Review
This review contains minor spoilers.

The generally underwhelming Justice League isn’t really anyone’s favourite DC Rebirth comic, but one book that has received a lot of acclaim is Dan Abnett’s run on Aquaman, which has dealt with Arthur’s struggles with being king and surviving the heated world of Atlantean politics. For his guest spot writing this Justice League issue, then, it’s no surprise that Abnett borrows from his Aquaman playbook.

However, Arthur Curry himself doesn’t make a single appearance. Instead, the focus is on Arthur’s wife Mera and her own encounter with the League. As readers of Aquaman #24 and #25 will know, the throne of Atlantis has just been usurped away from Aquaman and Mera has been torn away from her husband. In this issue, the League go to Atlantis to stop some massive tidal waves that could destroy the East Coast. It turns...

It’s no secret that Wonder Woman is the superhero movie of the moment – and for very good reason, it seems – but with the cameras already rolling Down Under, DC fans are quietly beginning to keep a close eye on the standalone Aquaman movie.

Headed up by horror maestro James Wan – in fact, Arthur Curry’s solo movie will reportedly have a horror slant when it makes land late next year – Aquaman will herald the return of Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as DC’s King of the Seven, after he was first introduced to the grand Dceu via a small cameo role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. But if Zack Snyder’s titanic event movie handled the King of Atlantis rather poorly, Wan’s spinoff will look to portray Aquaman in a...

Second Batch Of Justice League Costume Photos Shifts The Spotlight Over To Aquaman And The Princess Of Themyscira
Ready for another batch of Justice League costume photos hot off the presses?

The folks over at Collider have been busy moseying around the Warner Bros. booth at the ongoing Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, profiling each superpowered member of the Justice League – you know, barring a certain Man of Steel. Earlier today, the outlet rolled out a deluge of high-res images that allowed fans to go up close and personal with three of the six DC crusaders: Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).

Now, we know what you’re thinking; what about Aquaman? And where on Earth is Diana, Princess of Themyscira? Wonder Woman is the talk of the town, after all. Thankfully, Collider has relayed a second helping of Justice League pictures that shift the spotlight over to those costumes that will soon be worn by Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Diana Prince...

Another Helping Of Aquaman Set Photos Features Amnesty Bay And Momoa’s Stunt Double
The quaint coastal town of Amnesty Bay plays host to The King of the Seven and his many allies in this latest batch of Aquaman set photos.

Production on James Wan’s grand 2018 adventure continues apace, and after taking a moment to cast the spotlight on Amber Heard’s Mera – for the record, the Queen of Atlantis’ lime-green attire was a far cry from the battle suit glimpsed in that action shot from Justice League – Gold Coast Bulletin (via Cbm) has now relayed a fresh helping of set pictures that draw attention to both Amnesty Bay, a gang of bikers, and Jason Momoa’s towering stunt double.

Those familiar with the DC lore will know that Amnesty Bay serves as the home of Tom Curry, a local lighthouse keeper who adopts the would-be King of Atlantis from an early age. From that point on, and after being christened Arthur Curry,...

James Wan Shares A Photo Of The Queen Of Atlantis
As a fan of DC Comics this year is pretty exciting. We are a few weeks away from Patty Jenkin's Wonder Woman and a couple of months away from Zack Snyder's Justice League. If that wasn't enough, we know that James Wan is currently filming Aquaman starring Jason Mamoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman and Patrick Wilson. A few weeks ago Warner Bros. Pictures released the Justice League trailer where we got a really good look at the King of Atlantis, and a brief glimpse of Queen Mera. Although there had already been an image of Mera released earlier, yesterday Wan treated us to our first look at "Lady" Mera on set via his Twitter.

Mera Rises From The Deep In Latest Aquaman Set Photo
Australia’s sun-kissed Gold Coast is currently playing host to Aquaman (Aka The King of the Seven), and it seems production is moving along at a brisk clip.

Two weeks have passed since director James Wan posted the first status report from Down Under – for the record, it was accompanied by a set photo that appeared to have been taken within the bowels of a submarine – and now, the horror maestro has taken to Twitter to share an official photo of Amber Heard as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis. Of course, we’ve seen Heard in full costume before thanks to Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League movie, but whereas Snyder’s particular photo was fairly muted – favoring an ash-grey filter more than anything else – today’s all-new image is a burst of glorious, lime-green color.

It’s not what you would call an outfit for combat, though judging by James Wan’s caption,...

The Hollywood Reporter reports that 80s action star Dolph Lundgren will star opposite Momoa's Arthur Curry as Nereus, overlord of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel and general Aquaman nemesis.

Nereus isn't the only villain in Aquaman, since we already know that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is playing Black Manta and Patrick Wilson's taking on the role of Orm, Aquaman's evil half brother.

Jango Fett Actor Temuera Morrison In Talks To Play Jason Momoa's Father In Aquaman
The cast of Warner Bros. and director James Wan's Aquaman film continues to fill out its roster. After securing Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko and Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, the film was recently revealed to have acquired the talents of Nicole Kidman to play Aquaman's mother Atlana, the Queen of Atlantis.  In addition, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was just cast as Black Manta. Of course, the film is headed up by Jason Momoa's physically intimidating rendition of Arthur Curry aka Aquaman.  Fans will first get to know this particular take on DC's King of the Seven Seas in Zack Snyder's Justice League, which hits theaters later this year. Patrick Wilson On What Drew Him To Join Aquaman
While doing promo for his upcoming project The Hollow Point, Patrick Wilson was a guest on ABC Radio's Gma After Hours and spoke about why he decided to the play Aquaman’s villainous half-brother, Orm – a.k.a. Ocean Master in the upcoming DC Film.

“What’s gonna be interesting is there hasn’t been the technology to back up the storytelling, I guess, for Aquaman. Until now. And for me, of course, I’m completely biased with James Wan, who I’ve done four films with — knowing that he’s at the helm and knowing what he … can do and what he will do, I’ll do anything with him.”

Wilson added:

“I think the lure of Aquaman [is] because he hasn’t been overexposed on screen. And I don’t know Jason (Momoa) — I can’t wait to meet him. I was a huge fan even from the first episode of Game of Thrones,...

James Wan's Aquaman Gets an Official Release Date
Warner Bros. has officially set the release date for James Wan's Aquaman for October 5th, 2018. This is one of two release dates that were set by the studio for a couple of unknown DC film projects. The second date is for July 27th, 2018, and a film has yet to be placed in that slot.

A lot of fans, including myself, thought that Aquaman would fill the July date and that Ben Affleck's Batman solo film would fill the October one. Maybe it's actually the other way around. Who knows, though, another DC film could end up filling the slot.

Aquaman is set to star Jason Momoa, and he made his silly little debut in Batman v Superman. He will be joined by Amber Heard as Mera, Queen of Atlantis, and Willem Dafoe as advisor Vulko.

When previously talking about the film, Wan described it as a "swashbuckling action adventure,...

Aquaman Delayed, Gets New 2018 Release Date
Jason Momoa and Amber Heard in Aquaman (2018)
Don't worry, it doesn't sound like there is trouble in paradise yet. Yes, Aquaman is getting delayed. But it's only for a few months. This doesn't seem to be for any glaring issue with the quality of the movie. And many believe Warner Bros. made the movie so they could announce Ben Affleck's solo adventure The Batman soon, giving it a prime summer release date. That part of this story, though, has not been confirmed.

The Aquaman movie was supposed to hit theaters on July 27, 2018. Though, that date has been called into question often these past few months, especially in the wake of Suicide Squad not quite living up to expectations. Yes, this August's DC villain super-epic was a hit financially. But it left a bad taste in fans mouths with its sloppy editing and incoherent story. There has been rumors that every single one of the upcoming DC...

James Wan Reveals Details About Aquaman and His Relationship with Mera
Not long ago, Zack Snyder offered us our first look at Amber Heard as Mera the Queen of Atlantis in Justice League. This character is obviously going to play a big role in James Wan's solo Aquaman film, and in a recent interview with Bustle, the director revealed some details about the love/hate relationship that the two will have in the movie.

The director previously described the film as a "swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story. It's ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone." He now adds to that, saying that he really wants "to get the classic action-adventure-romance aspect through that, and I think that’s kind of fun."

If you look at the kind of relationships that lead characters had in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing the Stone, then you'll understand...

'Aquaman' to Be Like 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' Meets 'Romancing the Stone,' Says Director
What sort of movie will Aquaman prove to be? The individual elements sound intriguing. Jason Momoa proved his action credentials on TV's Game of Thrones as well as the new version of Conan the Barbarian, so he sounds like a splendid selection to be Aquaman. Amber Heard has appeared in a variety of comic and dramatic roles over her career and is a great choice as Mera, Queen of Atlantis, while the wonderfully versatile Willem Dafoe will undoubtedly bring some of his trademark edge to Vulko, an advisor to Aquaman. But what does director James Wan have in mind? Wan, of course, is best known as the director of horror movies like Insidious and The Conjuring 2. Yet he also made the terrific crime thriller Death Sentence as well as the blockbuster action sequel Furious 7. When...

Amber Heard has appeared in a variety of comic and dramatic roles over her career and is a great choice as Mera, Queen of Atlantis, while the wonderfully versatile Willem Dafoe will undoubtedly bring some of his trademark edge to...

Justice League: Each Cast Member Is Their Own “Character In A Weird Way,” Says Gal Gadot
While Wonder Woman may not have had a whole lot to do in this year’s Batman v Superman, between next year’s Wonder Woman and Justice League, you can rest assured that we’ll be getting to know Diana Prince pretty well before 2017 is up. From what we could tell, actress Gal Gadot was able to do a serviceable job in the task she was given in the film, but the big question is whether or not she can hold up an entire film — or even entire Wonder Woman franchise. While the jury is still out on that one, at least with Justice League, she’ll have the assistance of all over five cast members.

Wonder Woman may be an integral part to the whole Justice League ensemble, but we can’t downplay the likes of Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and of course, Superman — all played by Ben Affleck,...

"Justice League" - Amber Heard Is 'Mera'
Take a look @ actress Amber Heard as DC Comic's superhero character 'Mera', the love interest of 'Aquaman' in the upcoming feature "Justice League", directed by Zack Snyder ("Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice"):

"It’s interesting", said Heard about her new 'Mera' wardrobe.

"It’s like, half a suit of armor and half scales.

"It’s strange… We’re in the process of building it now, so it’s coming along."

The comic book character Mera debuted in DC's "Aquaman" #11 (September 1963), created by writer Jack Miller and illustrator Nick Cardy...

In her first appearance, Mera is fleeing the criminal 'Leron', who seized control of her kingdom, when she arrives on the surface and meets the human Aquaman, who vows to help her.

'Justice League' Concept Art Reveals Amber Heard as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis
Justice League is going to have a lot of characters in it. That just goes with the territory when it comes to superhero movies these days. The bigger the movie, the more heroes it will have. That's why we're now (thanks to IGN) getting our first look at Amber Heard as Mera, Queen of Atlantis and wife of Aquaman. Don't let this costume reveal make you think she's joined the Justice League, though. Her role in the Zack Snyder-directed movie is expected to be rather small. It's not a leap to imagine just a scene or two of her and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) debating how involved the Atlanteans need to be with the land-bound heroes (and villains). And that's okay since it's already known she'll be a big part of the solo Aquaman movie directed by James...

See Justice League's Amber Heard Suit Up as Mera, Queen of Atlantis
Jason Momoa and Amber Heard in Aquaman (2018)
Amber Heard is suiting up. In the upcoming Justice League film, Heard plays Mera, the Queen of Atlantis and wife of Jason Momoa's Aquaman. The first footage from the upcoming film was debuted at Comic-Con 2016, where the trailer showed Ben Affleck's Batman confronting Aquaman and The Flash (Ezra Miller). It also showed Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, but Heard didn't make it into the short featurette. Now fans can see what Heard will look like, not only in concept art, which was also released, but also in the first official photo of her in an elaborate costume featuring green scales and a large headpiece, courtesy of IGN. Additionally, Heard's Mera will play a larger role in the forthcoming standalone...

First Photo of Amber Heard as Mera in Justice League
This is our first official look at Amber Heard in the role of Mera the Queen of Atlantis in Zack Snyder's Justice League. I don't really think Heard is that good of an actress, but she sure does look great in the role! The film is currently shooting in Iceland where they are shooting scenes for Aquaman’s hometown of Amnesty Bay.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Johnny Depp at an event for Waiting for the Barbarians (2019)
Will the shocking allegations surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's acrimonious divorce affect their careers? On Depp, veteran box office tracker Paul Dergarabedian says, even with accusations of domestic abuse levied against him, "Johnny is a huge star, he's a huge brand. This is not a good thing, but is this something that will dog his career forever? If history tells us anything, it's very doubtful." One veteran Hollywood insider agrees, but says it won't be as simple as hoping that time will make audiences forget about the scandal. "He's going to need to do a big sit-down with...

DC Executive Heaps Praise On Aquaman, Excited To See Jason Momoa Command The Seven
If 2013’s Man of Steel laid the foundations, then this week’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is the defining second step in Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe, kicking off a slate of superhero flicks that spans all the way into 2020.

Among that roster of future films is Aquaman, James Wan’s standalone feature that will introduce Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa as the King of the Seven. Speaking broadly about Warner’s nascent universe, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns spoke to ComicBook.com about that future slate, before expressing his own excitement about the Aquaman spinoff.

More News From The Web

Given that Johns was heavily involved in a new run of the Aquaman comics that began life in 2011, it’s fair to say that the DC executive knows a thing or two about one Arthur Curry. Here, he heaps praise on the character – “he’s...

Amber Heard Will Play Mera in 'Aquaman,' Costume Details, and More
Amber Heard appeared on Entertainment Tonight and revealed that she will be playing Mera in DC's upcoming Aquaman, where she'll be starring opposite Jason Momoa. Mera is the Queen of Atlantis, and in the comics she has powers that include aquakenisis, telepathy, enhanced strength, and the ability to create structures using water.

The actress offered up a small tease about what her costume will look like. "It's interesting. It's like, half suit of armor, half scales. It's strange... We're in the process of building it now, so it's coming along," revealed Heard.

You can watch the 44 second clip of her comments here:

Something funny I picked up on while watching that clip was that James Franco seems to be getting a kick out of it, and almost seems to be making Heard feel self-conscious about this topic. If you'll recall, Franco recently revealed that he regrets working on Sam Raimi's Spider-man films,...

Amber Heard Confirms That She’s Playing Mera In Justice League And Teases Costume
It was reported by the trades first, but now Amber Heard herself has confirmed that she’s playing Mera in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The character is an unexpected addition to the movie, but her presence indicates that we’ll be paying a trip to Aquaman’s home of Atlantis in the highly anticipated superhero ensemble.

In the comics, Mera is the wife of Aquaman and former Queen of Atlantis. Her courtship with the hero causes quite a stir undersea as she hails from Xebel, a watery dimension inhabited by an exiled group of Atlanteans.

In the video above, the actress had this to say about suiting up as the character and offered some insight into what her costume will look like.

“It’s interesting. It’s like, half suit of armor, half scales. It’s strange… We’re in the process of building it now, so it’s coming along.

10 DC Heroes Who Deserve Movie Deals (And Who Should Play Them)
Wikipedia/DC

Audiences haven’t seen most of its heroes in action yet, but it’s already obvious that the DC Extended Universe is going to be just as sprawling and massive as its Marvel Studios equivalent. Man Of Steel was just a teaser; the real big business kicks off with Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which will tee up two Justice League movies and a host of standalone superhero spin-offs.

It’s known that – on top of Bats and Supes – Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are planning films for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, Shazam and the Green Lantern Corps, as well as their villain-centric Suicide Squad movie. You can bet good money that they won’t stop there, either.

If these movies make decent money, which most of them surely will, Warners and DC will quickly start looking for other comic book characters to adapt. Here...

Logos And Intel For 'Flash,' 'Cyborg,' and 'Aquaman.' Flash Will Time Travel!
Last night's DC Films: Dawn of The Justice League special was jam-packed with content. It's been hard to keep up. Last night, we posted some of the videos they released, but I'd now like to take the opportunity to delve into what was said in those videos because I think there's plenty to discuss.

Accompanying each bit of info is the brand-spanking new logo that DC Films has just released for each movie.

Geoff Johns fielded many questions from Kevin Smith throughout the special, and here he offers insight into Aquaman:

"First, we got Aquaman. His name is Arthur Curry, he's the son of a lighthouse keeper and the Queen of Atlantis. He starts to develop these powers. He can breathe under water. He can communicate with sea life. He's very strong. He grows up not really feeling like he belongs in either world. So he's a man trapped between two worlds,...

Tonight, the CW aired a DC preview show entitled DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League. In it, they promised new footage, a suicide squad trailer, and big news and they delivered.  Check out what we learned from tonight's DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League.

Now, most of the show was stuff we already knew, with Kevin Smith acting like it was the first time he had ever heard of DC Comics.  It was the epitomy of geeking out.  We get it Kevin, you're the hype man.  Calm it down, buddy.  In any case, there was a lot of noteworthy tidbits that are worth noting, courtesy of DC Comics co-host Geoff Johns.  Without further ado, here is what we learned.

Batman v Superman

Bruce Wayne, not knowing Superman, blames him for the destruction and the lives lost during the battle between Zod and Superman. "Wayne is older,...
