A scene featuring a plane attack on a German troop train was originally a scene cut from Wings (1927) after its original premier.

In this cut-rate follow-up to Les ailes (1927), director William A. Wellman was encouraged to maximize his use of stock footage and unused footage from the earlier movie. Studio management then became uneasy at the result, as "Wings" was still on its road show when this film was released, and apparently had some of the stock footage cut.

Fay Wray on director William Wellman: "Wellman's reputation as 'Wild Bill' wasn't apparent on the set. There were rumors of his wild behavior, but that made him kind of an exciting personality, I think. He was almost a belligerent director. He was going to get this scene, you know, and he was like a whole rooting section himself, vital and strong."
