It is believed that this film existed until 1965. Inventory records indicated that the only remaining print was being stored in MGM's vault #7 which was destroyed by a fire that year. By that point in time, all other elements had been destroyed or were missing.
Even though the film is still lost, as of 2019, there are still efforts to try and rediscover the movie. London After Midnight is quite possibly the most sought-out lost film in America.
Is on AFI's "Lost Films" list.
In 2002, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) commissioned restoration producer/expert Rick Schmidlin to produce a 45-minute reconstruction of the famous sought-after lost film, using stills photographs and a surviving original script. A year later, this reconstruction was included "The Lon Chaney Collection" DVD set.
A photo reconstruction of this film exists on the Lon Chaney Legacy Collection DVD Box Set.
