Relatively few people viewed this serial when it was initially released. Many theaters were closed during its run due to the 1918 influenza pandemic. The serial was shot during World War I and included a significant amount of anti-German propaganda. When the war ended three weeks into the serial's 15-chapter run, Americans became more interested in reconciliation and war-themed adventures quickly fell into disfavor.
