If Gold Derby's Emmy odds are correct, then Kathy Bates is on the verge of making history.
The veteran star is currently favored to win Best Drama Actress for the reimagined Matlock. She would be 77 years old when the trophies are handed out Sept. 14, which would make her the oldest woman ever in the category by 15 years.
Glenn Close (Damages) has held the Emmy record since 2009, and before that 2008, when she won back-to-back Best Drama Actress trophies at ages 62 and 61. Prior to Close, the category's oldest winners were 60-year-old Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters in 2007), 58-year-old Barbara Stanwyck (The Big Valley in 1966), 57-year-old Barbara Bel Geddes (Dallas in 1980), 50-year-old Sada Thompson (Family in 1978), and 50-year-old Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder in 2015).
After winning the Critics Choice Award for Matlock, a shocked Bates thanked showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman "for creating such an amazing role for an old lady like me.

The American Horror Story universe has been replete with chilling performances by some of the most talented actors in Hollywood. Among them is the remarkable Jessica Lange, who joined Ryan Murphy's AHS during its first season as Constance Langdon, a woman who lived next door to the subtitular Murder House. She then starred as Sister Jude in Asylum, Fiona Goode in Coven, and Elsa Mars in Freak Show. She reprised the role of Constance Langdon for 2018's Apocalypse, which marked her last time appearing in the horror anthology. Murphy's been teasing getting some of the show's most beloved stars back for its upcoming thirteenth season, but we can now count Lange out.
At the Glasgow Film Festival premiere of her latest movie, Long Day's Journey Into Night, Lange firmly dismissed the possibility of a return to AHS.

American Horror Storystar and Hollywood icon Jessica Lange confirms she will not be returning to the hit anthology series.
Per Deadline, Lange shot down the possibility of returning to American Horror Story during a recent appearance at the Glasgow Film Festival for the premiere of director Jonathan Kent's feature film adaptation of playwright Eugene O'Neil's Long Day’s Journey Into Night. When asked about a potential return to the series, Lange responded with an emphatic "Oh Christ, no." Lange added, "I mean, I haven't done it for more than 10 years, 12 years, so, no, I'm not doing it." When asked if the series' upcoming thirteenth season potentially being its last had any impact on her decision, Lange replied with a simple, "No."

Sosie Bacon has had to deal with the Smile curse. She crossed paths with the Lakewood Slasher in Scream: The TV Series. She even played one of the Manson girls in Charlie Says. So she has plenty of genre experience – and now, Deadline reports that she has just signed on to star in another horror project, this one with a comedic edge. Bacon is set to star opposite a jealous doll in the comedy horror film Brett.
Terrifier 3 sales firm The Coven is presenting Brett to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin this week.

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's pulpy, campy horror anthology series "American Horror Story" isn't for everyone, but fans of the show are fortunate in that there is now a lot of it to love. Since each season tackles a different subgenre within horror, everyone is bound to have favorites based on what kind of horror they prefer. Slasher fans might prefer season 9, "American Horror Story: 1984," which is set at a summer camp and riffs on classic 1970s and 1980s slashers, while fans of spooky, sexy, silly vampire stories might prefer season 5, "American Horror Story: Hotel." It's hard to objectively pick one best season because of the bias of subgenre preference (although we did try to rank the scariest seasons), but one way to see what's most beloved overall is to look at the user ratings over on IMDb.

Getting Mythic and Unique items in Diablo 4 is one of the best ways to power up in the game. These are both incredibly potent drops but equally difficult to acquire. However, once you get them, you can add these to your endgame build and use them to greatly improve your class builds.

The 2011 horror anthology series "American Horror Story," co-created by Brad Falchuk and TV juggernaut Ryan Murphy, is presented in a novel fashion. Each one of its 12 seasons stands as a wholly independent 10-to-13-episode miniseries, with each one featuring a unique set of characters and a new timeframe/location. Murphy and Falchuk select a traditionally Halloween-y horror topic or premise -- a haunted house, vampires, a witch coven, a circus sideshow, extraterrestrials, cultists -- and then spin it out in their own sensationalistic idiom. "American Horror Story" tends to be salacious and stylized, and its sheer variety have kept audiences coming back for years.
Note: "American Horror Story" is not to be confused with the 2021 series "American Horror Stories," which is actually a spinoff. "Stories" is a more traditional "Tales from the Crypt"-like anthology show, with each episode featuring an original story and its own unique cast of actors.

American Horror Story has almost been running for a decade and a half. Over its run so far, the show has been host to countless celebrity cameos, some of which just appeared in a single scene or episodes, others had a mini-arc within the season. Although they might not be a main character in the grand scheme of things, it is still nice when a celebrity makes a cameo in the show, just for the sake of being recognizable and breaking up the dark and serious themes of American Horror Story.
Some celebrities who have had a cameo on the show have enjoyed their time as part of the American Horror Story universe so much that they have returned in future seasons in a starring role. Despite there being countless celebrity cameos in the show, ranging from Lady Gaga as Scathach to Leslie Jordan, there are a handful that have had a greater impact,...

As American Horror Story prepares for its 13th season, speculation has begun about its possible theme, and theres one classic horror theme that the show has ignored for years. Ryan Murphy has become one of the most popular TV producers, being the mind behind many TV hits in the last decades. In 2011, along with Brad Falchuk, Murphy brought the anthology series American Horror Story, in which every season tells a different story, with different characters, and with one horror theme at the core.
American Horror Story kicked off with Murder House, taking the audience into the title house to meet the many ghosts that were trapped there. Since then, American Horror Story has covered a variety of horror themes, from classics like witches and freak shows to historical mysteries in Roankoe and even cults. American Horror Story has undoubtedly influenced television in the past decade, especially regarding horror-related shows. With the spin-off, American Horror Stories, having a third season this year, set to be released on October 26, and the original AHS getting renewed through Season 13, the show is nothing short of a major success. Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are truly impressive in how many things they could produce one year after the other, constantly surprising the viewer with innovative and very different ways of being scary and extremely disturbing. However, looking up close, it becomes clear that AHS is more than merely different frightening stories every year: they are all connected.
American Horror Story is a horror anthology show. Every year, there is a different story and horror style in a separate location, and sometimes, at different times. The show has the same cast, which plays new characters almost every season, although...

Lil Rel Howery is set to make his directorial debut and star in the horror comedy Haunted Heist, which will co-star Tiffany Haddish. The film was written by Carl Reid, who co-wrote the script for Hulu's 2024 release Mr. Crocket, a horror movie about a sinister children's television show host. French distribution outfit The Coven, which recently enjoyed big success with Terrifier 3, will distribute Haunted Heist.
The plot, according to Deadline, is as follows:
...four estranged friends reunite at what appears to be a typical house. But one friend has ulterior motives; he plans to rob the place and needs their help to find an antique worth a fortune. But the house is straight up haunted, and the group must squash their differences to survive the night and an insane pack of ghosts.
While the entire premise sounds promising, the phrase "insane pack of ghosts" will certainly pique the interest of the horror community.

American Horror Story is preparing for its thirteenth season, and it needs to answer a huge series mystery that Delicate avoided. Among the most successful and popular horror TV shows in recent years is American Horror Story, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. Each season of American Horror Story covers a different story and horror theme, and the show has built a list of frequent collaborators. Despite recent seasons not being as successful as previous ones, American Horror Story is coming back with its 13th season.
Details about American Horror Story season 13 are still unknown, though Murphy has teased the return of original stars Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson. The American Horror Story horror anthology can be a hit or miss with the characters or plotting. Killing off Twisty (John Carroll Lynch) so early in Freak Show to replace him with Dandy (Finn Wittrock), robbed the season of a threatening villain. The drawn-out flashback for Apocalypse might be forgiven if it delivered on the promised crossover between Coven and Murder House beyond one episode. The longer American Horror Story has gone on, the more flaws are obvious to spot, whereas, in previous seasons, they might be easily overlooked. However, a part of the show that never fails to terrify us is the opening title sequence, with the crackling, buzzing, and pounding noises. A traditional piece of music it is not.

Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has made no secret that portraying shrewd defense lawyer Matlock will be the final role of her decorated 55-year Hollywood career. Warning! This article contains spoilers for Agatha All Along episode 5Agatha Harkness' MCU origin story may gain a new meaning if an Agatha All Along and WandaVision fan theory turns out to be accurate. Marvel Comics' Agatha Harkness was originally introduced as an older witch who tutors Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman's son Franklin Richards, gets captured and killed at the stake by her son Nicholas Scratch and her magical grandchildren the Salem Seven, and helps the Scarlet Witch master her magical power. The MCU made several major changes to Agatha Harkness, including the reason why she's sent to the stake.

This post contains spoilers for "Agatha All Along."
Just when we thought that "Agatha All Along" would settle for an episodic trial pattern that would feed right into the finale, things get real serious and messy in the latest entry of the show, titled "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power." Featuring Agatha's (Kathryn Hahn) trial on the Witches' Road, the episode concludes with a highly-anticipated reveal: Teen (Joe Locke) is Billy Kaplan/Maximoff, and his powers are something to watch out for, given his heritage. The impetus behind this identity reveal lies in the events that occur during the trial, where Agatha's mother, Evanora Harkness (Kate Forbes), possesses her with the intention of keeping her inside the road forever. The root of Agatha's trauma is revealed here, as it can be traced back to Evanora, who fostered enough hatred inside her child to push her towards embracing darkness as a means to instinctively protect herself.
Just when we thought that "Agatha All Along" would settle for an episodic trial pattern that would feed right into the finale, things get real serious and messy in the latest entry of the show, titled "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power." A decapitated, talking head. An immortal, homicidal racist. A mother racked with guilt. All of this is part of the performance that won Kathy Bates an Emmy as the real-life, Madame Delphine Lalaurie, a New Orleans socialite infamous for torturing and murdering the Black people enslaved at her house. Bates' star power currently elevates Matlock, in the same way her star power makes her compelling to watch even when playing characters that didn't quite live up to her talents like in later seasons of American Horror Story. They cant beat what she does in Coven, her first time on the series, and what I firmly believe to be her best role. Adapting historical facts, then twisting them to increase the shock and schlock, Kathy Bates creates a depraved American Horror Story villain that faces the punishments the real monster didnt.

Despite being an anthology horror series, creator and showrunner Ryan Murphy has confirmed that there are many American Horror Story connections between the seasons. American Horror Story's seasons are famed for their intricate, terrifying narratives, with American Horror Story: Delicate (season 12) being the latest installment. Since airing on FX in 2011 with season 1, Murder House, American Horror Story has explored numerous elements of history and the horror genre, bringing numerous, terrifying stories to audiences. It has been confirmed that the AHS seasons connect and exist within a shared world.
Though subsequently becoming involved with different projects on Netflix, network television, and movies since Murder House first premiered in 2011, Murphy's passion for the American Horror Story series continues to be apparent to this day. Whether through the care he takes to make clever season-to-season connections, or by keeping the universe richly developed, American Horror Story has become a trove of Easter eggs,...

For the first time since American Horror Story premiered in 2011, we’re entering a fall TV season without a new installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series on the FX schedule.
Sure, Murphy has a half-dozen other hits rolling out — including FX’s horror-themed Grotesquerie, as well as a new batch of American Horror Stories on Hulu — but that isn’t keeping the Horror Story fans from wondering when they might get their next fix.

Sarah Paulson has been a mainstay on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story anthology series since her recurring role in the first season of the FX show in 2011, retroactively dubbed Murder House.
While promoting her new Hulu thriller Hold Your Breath, Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts asked if she would return to the horror franchise again.
“I think there is a big chance that I will return to American Horror Story,” Paulson said. “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home. It’s where I started.”
She continued, “I got to play, you know, seven different characters in seven years, which as an actor is the most exciting, thrilling thing, and also allows an audience to be ready for anything you’re going to do because they’re not attached to one thing that you do, specifically. That has...

[This story contains spoilers from the third episode of Agatha All Along, “Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials.”]
Former Saturday Night Live star Sasheer Zamata has entered a new realm of fandom with her role as Jennifer Kale on the newly launched Disney+ superhero dark comedy Agatha All Along.
“I think I’m ready,” Zamata told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the series debut on Sept. 18. “I guess I won’t know until it happens, but I am excited because I think Marvel fans will love it. We’re really stepping into the magic side of Marvel and that’s really exciting and fun.”
The WandaVision spinoff finds Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha disingenuously reassembling a reluctant coven to regain her supernatural powers. Among them is Zamata’s character, a potions witch who runs an organic skincare apothecary of sorts when not dabbling in the occult. In episode three, “Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials,” Jennifer saves the...

Ryan Murphys new horror series Grotesquerie has arrived on FX and Hulu, and the shows Rotten Tomatoes scores reveal how it stacks up against American Horror Story. First announced in February this year, Murphy co-created the series with Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, after his five-year exclusive development deal with Netflix ended in 2023. Starring Niecy Nash-Betts as a small-town detective who turns to a Catholic nun (Micaela Diamond) to help solve a series of disturbing crimes, Grotesquerie recently debuted its first two episodes on September 25.
With the initial scores for Grotesquerie beginning to roll in on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, audiences can now see how Murphys new horror show compares with American Horror Story. Currently boasting a 75% critical score and 79% audience score, Grotesquerie appears to fall just short of some of AHS more acclaimed seasons, such as 1984 and Coven, but is still on par with the majority of...

Branding is central to Ryan Murphy’s TV empire, but the brand names themselves can often feel a little fungible.
Take Murphy’s output in this current two-week period: FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez absolutely could have been renamed Hernandez: Monster — The Aaron Hernandez Story. Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story probably could have been Feud: The Menendez Family. I haven’t seen ABC’s Doctor Odyssey, but all promotion indicates that it’s 9-1-1: Love Boat.
On that shifting scale, FX’s Grotesquerie could easily have had the American Horror Story name appended in front of it. With hints of Cult, Coven and Asylum immediately evident, it looks to take almost an everything bagel approach to the signatures of that series.
After only two episodes (none were made available for critics ahead of the premiere), it’s too early to tell...

Quick Links Who Do Fans Speculate That Teen Is? Teen May Actually Be Nicholas Scratch Why Would It Make More Sense For Him to Be Nicholas Than Billy?
Agatha All Along is one of the most mysterious entries to the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. So much of the show remains entirely under wraps despite all the information revealed in the first two episodes. The pasts of characters like Rio Vidal are still concealed, leaving plenty of room for fans to speculate. Even those with comic origins, like Lilia Calderu and Jennifer Kale, haven't fully been explained yet, and there's still a chance that the MCU will play with their backstories to turn them into something entirely new.
One of the greatest sources of mystery has been Joe Locke's character. Promotional material refuses to use his name - referring to him only as Teen - and the show has continued that trend.

Kathy Bates has announced her plans following the end of her upcoming CBS series Matlock. The actress intends to retire from acting, putting an end to a career spanning decades. Notably, she also revealed how the show changed her earlier retirement plans.
The Series Will Be The Last For Bates
The 2024 legal drama is a gender-flipped reboot of the 1986 series of the same name. The earlier series saw Andy Griffith play the title character, criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock. At the time, the series was heavily credited with bringing Griffith back into the spotlight.
Bates will step into the role of the new title character, Madeline Matlock, who rejoins the workforce at a prestigious legal firm, using her own set of skills. As seen in a series trailer, Bates’ Matlock can easily convince a man she’s just met that she’s his own aunt within moments of meeting him.

While Ryan Murphys new show Grotesquerie may not recapture American Horror Storys cult success, the series is trying something that the anthology show never quite pulled off. According to TheHollywoodReporter, nearly a fifth of scripted TV shows from 2019-2020 were cop shows. The police procedural has been one of the most popular formats in American television history since Dragnet began back in 1951, so it is no surprise that Ryan Murphys new series Grotesquerie leans into the format. What is surprising is how long it took for the legendary TV producer to take advantage of this multi-decade trend.

After a remarkable 50-year career in Hollywood, Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has decided to retire, with the CBS reboot of Matlock serving as her final project.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Bates, 76, expressed her plans to step away from acting, calling this moment her “last dance.”
Reflecting on her career, Bates shared that acting has, at times, consumed her life, leaving little room for personal space. “It becomes my life,” Bates explained. “Sometimes I get jealous of having this talent, because I can’t hold it back, and I just want my life.” She added that she often felt out of place in the industry, noting, “I never felt dressed right or well. I felt like a misfit.”

The initial trailer for Agatha All Along showed Agnes is no longer cursed to play characters in Wanda's sitcom-inspired illusions. Creator Jac Schaeffer says the show will still take after WandaVision by subverting a popular TV trope.
Creator Jac Schaeffer said Agatha All Along's witches will break the mold of their onscreen depictions. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she confirmed one sequence that would reveal the origin of witch stereotypes, highlighting the show's attempt to subvert expectations. She recalled a similar approach with WandaVision, which played on nostalgia for old TV sitcoms. "That's also what we were trying to do with sitcoms: 'We love sitcoms for all of these reasons, and sitcoms are also ridiculous for all of these reasons,'" she said. Agatha All Along will not adopt the narrative device WandaVision but will still have the same goal; to celebrate and transcend TV tropes.

WandaVision spinoff Agatha All Along will hit screens in just a few weeks with a new cast of characters heading off on a magical adventure. However, producer Mary Livanos says the two shows share an important similarity.

When Tamra Judge returned to The Real Housewives of Orange County, Season 17, she did a lot of damage control.
However, she’s had quite the fall from grace throughout Rhoc Season 18 as she goes after her one-time friend Shannon Beador over her DUI arrest.

Netflix now offers A Discovery of Witches and Mayfair Witches, ideal for American Horror Story fans craving more witch-centered stories. Both shows mirror the dark themes and supernatural elements seen in AHS: Coven, delving into magical worlds and secrets. Mayfair Witches, based on Anne Rice's books, promises ongoing intrigue as it explores a powerful dynasty of witches haunted by dark spirits.
Netflix is now streaming several hit TV shows from AMC, which includes two witch-centered series that are perfect for fans of American Horror Story: Coven. Despite the absence of key stars like Lange, Peters, and Paulson, American Horror Story: 1984 received positive reviews for its straightforward horror plot. The simplicity of the storytelling in 1984, compared to previous seasons like Cult and Apocalypse, allowed viewers to deeply invest in the protagonist's story. Peters and Paulson returned for season 10 of American Horror Story, Double Feature, which ultimately fell short due to the split storyline and lack of character development.

American Horror Story's lack of clear universe rules can be confusing, impacting continuity and storytelling. Season 8 wasted time on unnecessary characters, missing the potential for a strong sequel to Coven. A misleading start with pointless twists kept Apocalypse from reaching its full potential as a standout season.
While American Horror Story season 8 always had an uphill battle, the shows worst outing could have been a lot better with one major change. Every season of American Horror Story is connected, but the show is still unclear about exactly how its fictional universe works. At other points, bizarre events make it clear that American Horror Story takes place in a reality that barely resembles the real world. Meanwhile, the same actors appear as completely different characters, sometimes in the same season.

“The Great Lillian Hall” reunites three “American Horror Story” actresses to deliver a tour de force in TV movies. Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Lily Rabe all star in this HBO TV Movie, directed by Michael Cristofer, that follows the careers of fictional Broadway actress Lillian Hall.
It’s Lange who plays Lillian and the veteran actress has turned in another masterclass in acting. She has always been a commanding screen presence and that doesn’t change here as she depicts a legendary actress as a triumph on stage but a nervous wreck in rehearsals while she battles with early dementia. It’s always a treat watching icons play icons (Lange did this again in “Feud: Bette and Joan”) and while Lillian is fictional, the impact is no less felt. Critics agree, this could be Lange’s greatest performance yet.

While Mother Aniseya and Falta both used Force powers to create life, there's a key difference in their methods. The Sith stole force powers from other traditions, including the Nightsisters, to enhance their dark side abilities. Plagueis may have done the same here.
The Acolyte episode 3 introduced a shocking new Force power, but it was actually set up five years ago in a forgotten but highly-influential Star Wars short story. Viewers were taken aback when The Acolyte revealed the true origin of the twins Osha and Mae, who - according to Mother Aniseya - were conceived by her own Force power. This has proved to be extremely controversial, with some insisting the idea of children born of the Force somehow makes Anakin Skywalker less special.
