Diego Vásquez in Cent ans de solitude (2024)

Review by dmytro-skorokhod

Cent ans de solitude

10/10

No One Will Escape Retribution.

The mysterious town of Macondo comes to life on the screen. Behind the veil of love and war, age-old wisdom emerges. Everyone, without exception, will be held accountable for the evil they have caused to their neighbor. Prudencio Aguilar is a witness to this.

An incredibly accurate and successful adaptation of the cult masterpiece of magical realism. Numerous small details from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel are reproduced in the series with extraordinary care. For example, what did Remedios the Beautiful decorate the walls with?

The fact that it was actually filmed in Colombia gives the film a special charm. Even if you haven't read the book, watch the movie to broaden your horizons. The world is not limited to Europe and the United States. Literature is not limited to classical canons and plots. And TV series can be works of art.

Watching "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is a trip that discovers Colombia and magical realism. As after any great travel, you will return to the familiar world a different person.
