Production is underway on Lanterns and P-Valley star J. Alphonse Nicholson is the latest addition to the show's cast. According to Deadline, he will play the father of Aaron Pierre's John Stewart.
However, it sounds like his scenes will primarily be flashbacks as the trade notes, "Nicholson will play the young version of John Senior." This comes shortly after we learned Nicole Ari Parker has been tapped to star as the Green Lantern's mother.
While Hal Jordan will also take centre stage in Lanterns, it's not surprising to learn that we'll explore John's background as he's expected to be the Dcu's main Green Lantern moving beyond this Max series.
Nicholson's other screen credits include Just Mercy, They Cloned Tyrone, Mr. Robot, Luke Cage, and Clipped. He reacted to his casting on social media and expressed gratitude for landing the role.

They Cloned Tyrone is a 2023 sci-fi mystery film directed by Juel Taylor, in his feature film directorial debut. The film’s story centers on a motley trio living in the fictional though recognizable Glen, a neighborhood replete with its own thriving criminal ecosystem. There’s the drug dealer Fontaine (John Boyega), the prostitute Yo-Yo (Teyonah Parris), and Slick Charles (Jamie Foxx), a cartoonish pimp, all of whom find themselves in a web of intrigue after Fontaine is shot dead yet wakes up in his bed the next day. Eager to discover how Fontaine lives on, despite being fatally gunned down in front of Slick Charles and Yo-Yo, the trio set off on an impromptu investigation into the hidden activities of the Glen. The critically acclaimed film boasts a particular strain of home-grown conspiracy and spins a simultaneously bleak and entertaining sci-fi tale about circumstance, autonomy, governmental corruption and the importance of identity.

New year, new streaming movies to watch from the comfort of home. Back in Action is Netflix’s first big release of 2025, with a premise based on a simple espionage concept in which the protagonists, Matt and Emily, played by Jamie Foxx (They Cloned Tyrone) and Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels), respectively — marking the actress’ return to the big screen ten years after her last performance — find their secret identities exposed, putting their lives in danger.
Directed by Seth Gordon (Baywatch) and written by Gordon himself and Brendan O’Brien (The House), expectations weren’t particularly high, with hopes for a couple of enjoyable hours resting solely on the lead actors’ chemistry. Unfortunately, the year doesn’t start on the right foot, as Back in Action is potentially one of the worst films of the next twelve months. Few moments provoke more anxious dread for residents of The Jungles, the vibrant Los Angeles locale in which the hilarious new film One of Them Days is set, than the first of the month. Their surly landlord lurks around the apartment complex collecting rent on units in need of desperate repair. Looking for any reason to evict his long-time, mostly working-class, tenants, Uche (Rizi Timane) enforces a strict policy: If you don’t pay, you can’t stay.
So it’s a real problem when Uche tells Dreux (Keke Palmer) that he hasn’t received her rent. The fatigued waitress answers her landlord’s harsh knocks in a state of half-sleep. Uche must be mistaken, she insists, because her best friend and roommate Alyssa (Sza) paid him. It turns out that Alyssa tasked her unreliable boyfriend Keshawn (Joshua David Neal) with delivering the payment. And he, a failing serial entrepreneur,...

Quick Links Star Wars Botched Finn's Jedi Journey Skeleton Crew Makes Silvo's Sith-Like Journey Feel Natural
The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1, Episode 7, "We're Gonna Be in So Much Trouble," now streaming on Disney+.
To this day, the Star Wars sequel trilogy remains divisive. The overall plot was fine, but the journey towards the destination was rocky. However, some of the Disney/Lucasfilm TV shows have done well in the wake of that era. Andor, for example, had a lot of nuance as it delved into the inner-workings of the Empire.
Skeleton Crew Season 1 is bringing fun, charm and excitement to George Lucas' trilogy with a swashbuckling Goonies-style story. Interestingly, the latter does have some grave tones to it by creating a unique villain: Jude Law's Captain Silvo, who doesn't just bring a sense of dread to the table. Yesterday evening, a rumour hit social media claiming that Marvel Studios is making moves to recast Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. The news has received a mixed response, though many fans are eager to see the character back on screen.
After Boseman passed away, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever confirmed that T'Challa had also died. Shuri inherited the mantle and the sequel ended by revealing the hero secretly had a son with Nakia, a young boy also named T'Challa.
While Avengers: Secret Wars' Black Panther may be a Variant, we think Toussaint is going to be aged up before picking up where his father left off in the Mutant Saga. With all that in mind, we're now taking a look at the actors who could take over this role in the MCU.

Netflix has been offering high-quality original movies on its streaming site for almost ten years now. Back in 2015, the streaming site started strong with the captivating drama, Beasts of No Nation. Now, Netflix originals have won 23 Academy Awards and some have even earned cult status, such as 2023's excellent sci-fi thriller, They Cloned Tyrone.
Of course, not all Netflix original movies are received with such a warm welcome. There are plenty of films offered exclusively on the streaming site that have earned the dreaded "rotten" status on Rotten Tomatoes. Arguably, the reviews of these movies aren't entirely accurate. Each of these movies may be a little better than their Rotten Tomatoes splat status makes them seem.

AMC has been in the Walking Dead business for years, building a long-running show and multiple spin-offs out of the source material provided in the pages of Robert Kirkman’s comic book series. They’re in the Anne Rice business, building a franchise out of the books, characters, and ideas in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches trilogy. Exclusive: AMC is in the early stages of development on Gothictown, a series adaptation of the forthcoming horror novel from Emily Carpenter, for which British-Nigerian writer Abby Ajayi will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, sources tell Deadline.
The project comes to AMC by way of Stephen Love’s Made With Love Media, which acquired rights to the book in a competitive situation and is attached to produce. In addition to Love, Mai Ling Matthews-Bernuzzi will produce for Made With Love.
An eerie, grounded family horror story coming up for publication on March 25, 2025, Gothictown follows Billie Hope, a New York City restaurateur who relocates her family to the quaint town of Juliana, Georgia, drawn by an irresistible offer: a Victorian home for only $100 and a grant to open a new restaurant. The “Juliana Initiative,” designed to revitalize the town post-pandemic, seems like the perfect opportunity for a fresh start and a new business venture.

John Boyega and Simu Liu’s Social Media Exchange Has MCU & Star Wars Fans Speculating - Main Image
John Boyega and Simu Liu have fans speculating after an intriguing exchange on X, seemingly teasing their return to their respective franchises: Marvel and Star Wars.
MCU fans have been waiting for Shang-Chi 2 for years, and there are rumors that the Ten Rings wielder himself will be one of the leads in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
As for Boyega, he was last seen in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, with no news of his return to the galaxy far, far away, aside from Daisy Ridley’s hope to see him reprise his role as Finn in her new Star Wars movie.
So, does their fun social media banter mean anything?

"Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens" felt like the inception of a fresh adventure when the film first hit theaters, as it inched towards the promise to offer something new within a familiar mold. The film's narrative/thematic mirroring of "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" was a conscious retracing of the telltale hero's journey, where interconnected fates posed cyclical moral dilemmas, echoing past mistakes and forging renewed bonds. John Boyega's Finn brimmed with potential when the character was introduced as a stormtrooper on the verge of defection, followed by his gradual integration among the Resistance: a path that comes with the ultimate test of loyalty and character. Boyega makes Finn his own, imbuing the immensely likable character with endearing grit and charm, but the way Finn was treated throughout the trilogy — which unfortunately looped back to how Boyega was treated and made to feel...

John Boyega and Danielle Deadwyler are set to portray late soul legend Otis Redding and his widow Zelma Redding in Fifth Season’s forthcoming biopic “Otis & Zelma.”
Directed by breakout filmmaker Channing Godfrey Peoples and produced by Fifth Season, Homegrown Pictures and Kinfolk Management + Media, the music-based film chronicles the life of Otis Redding, who is considered to be one of the most impactful singer-songwriters of our lifetime, with indelible hits including “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” “Respect,” “These Arms of Mine,” “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” and “Hard to Handle.” Redding’s burgeoning superstar career was tragically cut short when he died in a 1967 plane crash, leaving behind Zelma and three young children. He was 26 years old.

To many, Kiefer Sutherland is known best as 24 protagonist Jack Bauer, but before the action series began, the actor was known for playing multiple villainous characters. Some of Sutherland's more sympathetic characters make it difficult to believe he could portray such memorable antagonists like those in Eye for an Eye and Stand By Me. Yet every villainous character portrayed by Sutherland was believable and wholly embodied by the Canadian actor.
In recent years, Sutherland's filmography hasn't been strictly defined by such characters as it was in the '80s and '90s. Still, rare, strong villain characters can still be seen. In 2023, Sutherland appeared in the sci-fi comedy They Cloned Tyrone where he delivered an interesting villainous performance in a supporting role. Both longtime fans and newcomers can enjoy going back through Sutherland's filmography and seeing his range through his best villain performances.

NBC’s new medical procedural arrives with an unusual slant. Inspired by the life of late British neurologist and author Dr. Oliver Sacks, “Brilliant Minds” stars “Star Trek” and “American Horror Story’s” Zachary Quinto as a doctor determined to demystify neurological disorders. And he’s got first-hand experience: Quinto’s Dr. Oliver Wolf has prosopagnosia, also known as “face blindness” (just as Sacks did in real life.)
The hour-long series “follows a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier – the human mind – while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.”
Alongside Quinto, “Brilliant Minds” also stars Tamberla Perry Ashleigh Lathrop (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Alex MacNicoll (“The Society”), Aury Krebs (“Leverage: Redemption”), Spence Moore II (“All American”), Teddy Sears (“The Flash”) and Donna Murphy (“Tangled”). “Homeland” and “Criminal Minds” star Mandy Patinkin is also on board in a recurring role.

John Boyega put himself on the map with a star-making performance in Attack the Block. When he later travelled into a Galaxy Far, Far Away for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we had high hopes for his Stormtrooper-turned-Jedi.
Unfortunately, Lucasfilm dropped the ball on Finn and his story arc disappointed Boyega and Star Wars fans in equal measure.
There's long been hope that the British actor might join a Marvel or DC project and some new social media posts have sent speculation into overdrive about him potentially preparing for one. As you can see below, Boyega has hit the gym and looks ready to don spandex as any number of superhero characters.
Chances are he's just getting into shape or working out for a future role that has nothing to do with the MCU or Dcu. Still, these posts have got fans talking about which heroes - or villains -...

I am surprised that, despite having a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, a Netflix science fiction movie has still not been greenlit for a sequel. Instead of merely focusing on one genre, Netflix seems to take a well-rounded approach to expanding its content repository. The streaming giant keeps adding new content from diverse genres to ensure that it is serving a wide range of audience preferences. However, despite the streaming website's best efforts to cater to all tastes and interests, its sci-fi content has always emerged on top.
Some of the most-viewed movies on Netflix, like Don't Look Up, Bird Box, Leave the World Behind, and The Adam Project, belong to the sci-fi genre. The same pattern can be noticed for TV shows as well, given how Stranger Things is one of Netflix's biggest and most profitable IPs. John Boyega was all set to play Terry Richmond in Rebel Ridge before Aaron Pierre was taken aboard for the role, which raises questions about why Boyega dropped out of the Netflix film. Even though Rebel Ridge is a relatively low-budget action film, it was surprisingly in production for the past five years. According to reports, John Boyega was cast for the leading role in November 2019, and the film's shooting was scheduled to begin sometime in April 2020.
However, due to the delays from the lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic, Rebel Ridge's shooting did not start until May 2021. In June 2021, the film's production faced another major challenge when John Boyega abruptly departed from the project. This is when Aaron Pierre was cast for the leading role. Fortunately, the third time was a charm since the film's shooting went smoothly thereafter. Although Aaron Pierre's casting has worked wonders for the Jeremy Saulnier movie,...

NBC’s Brilliant Minds will premiere in September of the upcoming fall season.
While medical dramas are a dime a dozen, Brilliant Minds differs because it’s based on the real-life Dr. Oliver Wolf Sacks.
The series focuses on the larger-than-life neurologist who was not afraid to break the rules to help his patients live life to the fullest.
(Brendan Meadows/NBC)
While the series focuses mainly on the protagonist, it also includes an exciting ensemble, including his old friend Dr. Pierce and his team of interns.
The team explores cases related to the human mind while examining their own mental health issues and relationships.
With real-life inspiration, rich characters, and a talented cast, we hope this series lasts for many seasons. Meet the cast and characters in Brilliant Minds.

John Boyega's best performance is in the Small Axe film "Red, White & Blue" showcasing his range and talent. The film explores the challenges Leroy faced while trying to change the Metropolitan Police from within. Boyega's potential in Star Wars wasn't fully tapped; Finn could have been a driving force but was underutilized.
Years after he first appeared as Finn in the Star Wars films, John Boyega's best performance can be found in a criminally underseen part of the Small Axe anthology that boasts a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score. Boyega was impressive in his role as Finn in the sequel Star Wars trilogy, even as the films steadily shifted focused away from him and more towards Daisy Ridley's Rey or Adam Driver's Kylo Ren. Through a mix of magnetic sweetness and understated drive, Boyega was able to elevate Finn's storyline and deliver a strong performance.

Under Paris is a popular thriller on Netflix, but its portrayal of sharks in the Seine is not accurate. Sharks could not realistically survive in the Seine due to its freshwater environment and several locks that prevent them from accessing it. Despite its creative liberties with shark behavior, Under Paris delivers a powerful message about pollution and science.
After the popularity of Under Paris, some viewers have been left questioning if there really are sharks in the Seine. Since it debuted on Netflix, Under Paris has beaten out movies like Godzilla Minus One to become the most popular film on the streaming service. Its popularity seems well-earned, too, as Under Paris currently boasts a respectable 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has received generally favorable reviews. The Sci-Fi genre consists of some of the most inventive and life-changing films because by the very definition of the word the creators have to invent a fictional future or technology and while some of the films in this genre give us spectacle others give us a story that makes us think about the future and how our world is changing for better or for worse.
