“Severance” is finally back but there are a lot of characters to keep track of and remember in the three years since Season 1.
The Apple TV+ series follows a group of employees at the mysterious Lumon who underwent a procedure that “severs” their consciousness so one version of themselves is constantly at work and knows nothing of the outside world and vice versa. Adam Scott stars in the series as the leader of one of the company teams trying to uncover the mysterious happenings at Lumon.
Here’s who you need to know before Season 2 starts.

While there are a lot of great shows coming in the new year and many hit shows from 2024 have been renewed for new seasons, there are also some shows we worry might never...

The “Sonic the Hedgehog” movies have become some of the most lucrative video game adaptations in Hollywood history, proving that Sega characters can be major draws at the box office. And while the franchise is still going strong — Jim Carrey is coming out of retirement to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming third film — gamers clamoring to see more non-hedgehog properties from the Sega canon on the big screen are in for a treat. The iconic video game company is teaming up with Universal Pictures on a film adaptation of “Shinobi,” the ninja game that has delighted arcade goers for nearly four decades, IndieWire has learned.
The “Shinobi” film will be directed by Sam Hargraves, who is best known for directing “Extraction” and “Extraction 2” for Netflix. Ken Kobayashi will write the script. No casting details or release date have been announced.

It’s not just all about Sonic the Hedgehog. Another Sega video game franchise, Shinobi, is heading to the big screen, with Sam Hargrave directing for Universal.
Ken Kobayashi is writing the screenplay adaptation of the arcade game, which first debuted in 1987. That edgy game followed Joe Musashi, a modern-day ninja who confronts great evil. Shinobi spawned 14 games include spinoffs and ports for a total 5 million copies sold around the globe. A new entry in the series was revealed in late 2023.
Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce the movie through Marc Platt Productions alongside Dmitri M. Johnson through Story Kitchen and Toru Nakahara for Sega. Mike Goldberg will executive produce alongside Timothy I. Stevenson, who is co-producing.

Just over a year after the series finale of Barry aired on HBO, Bill Hader is returning to the premium cable channel for a brand-new comedy series. Its hard to imagine anyone being able to one-up the Emmy-winning series, but if someone can do it, it's Hader and the best premium cable network out there. Better yet, the actor-writer is set to unite with a fellow Barry scribe on the untitled comedy script, but it does not seem like Hader will be starring in it.
According to Variety, Bill Hader is co-writing a new HBO comedy pilot alongside Duffy Boudreau, a longtime friend of his and a collaborator on Barry. The latter's other credits also include Netflix's Big Mouth and the Marvel animated series Hit-Monkey starring Jason Sudeikis, streaming on Hulu. It's hard to believe that it's been over a year now since Bill Hader's increasingly black comedy series Barry reached its jaw-slackening conclusion, the hitman series going out on a high having asserted Hader's status as one of the most exciting talents working in film and TV today. And now, after taking a break from Barry's increasingly bleak world to play Banana in John Krasinski's child-friendly cinematic confection If, Hader's preparing his next HBO soon-to-be hit. Per Variety's reporting, the Tulsan multi-hyphenate is teaming up with his Barry co-writer Duffy Boudreau on a new comedy pilot for the network giant.
Details on the newly announced project are incredibly scarce at this stage, but we have at least been given a logline, which reads as follows: “A woman in a small town has a big secret revealed.” Who is the woman? Nobody knows. Where is the small town? Nobody knows.

There have been knocks on Marvel in the past for not embracing its more adult audience. However, Hit-Monkey and Deadpool & Wolverine look to change that discourse. While hype continues to build for the movie, Hit-Monkey embraces violence in ways other Marvel properties have not. Josh Gordon, the co-creator of Hit-Monkey, spoke to FandomWire about his Marvel animated series. We discuss working with a talent like Jason Sudeikis, a long layoff between seasons, and a certain red-suited merc that’s teamed up with Monkey in the comic books.

Before the merc with a mouth pays us a visit later this week in theaters in his upcoming bloody venture with his pal Logan, Marvel’s monkey merc has returned for a rampage with the second season of Hit-Monkey. After wreaking havoc in Tokyo’s underworld in the first season and killing the corrupt President-elect Shinji as well, this time the ape version of John Wick has arrived in New York with his trusted assassin ghost sidekick, Bryce, and is taking on threats that are more supernatural in nature. The second season is more introspective and melodramatic in tone, which results in the series losing its edge with a clear lack of action, blood, and gore, and aside from that, the tendency to bring in monstrous flora and fauna in every other episode starts feeling pretty clichéd in no time.

Marvel’s Animation team has taken a huge leap in the last few years. With exciting series like What If…? and X-Men 97, the studio looks to be on the upswing. Part of that jump comes from Season 2 of Hit-Monkey, which premiered on July 15th. The story of Monkey, becoming a killer who kills killers, gained acclaim in Season 1. While the series from Josh Gordon and Will Speck was away for a few years, it allowed the team to craft an emotionally satisfying return.

Hit-Monkey continues to walk the vigilante path less traveled. While other heroes trade banter in slick suits, this show honors the violent grit pioneered by films like Oldboy and martial arts classics like Drunken Master. Dark humor cuts through the carnage, recalling Tarantino at his pitch-black best.
Season 2 delves deeper into what fuels a life of violence. Monkey confronts his own “family business” legacy through a crisis of conscience glimpsed in similarly nihilistic animation like Primal. Bryce’s redemption arc nods to fallen antiheroes from The Dark Knight to Breaking Bad. New characters like Eunice bring levity, further separating this show from the gleaming MCU while expanding representation in the genre.

Season 2 of Marvel and Hulus Hit Monkey has an emotional throughline that pays off. The action and magic are on a different level and the animation is up to the challenge of keeping up with both. A bevy of new characters are introduced and all fit seamlessly into the quirky world of apes and assassins. At its best, Hit-Monkey is Archer meets Venom. The animated show's quality has always been very high.

Haruka's morals are tested in Hit-Monkey season 2 as she helps him clear his name and becomes imbued with mystical powers. In addition to her moral journey, star Ally Maki also teases the tested friendship of Akiko and Haruka as the former hunts Monkey down after taking up the Lady Bullseye mantle. Maki has not yet heard whether she will be back for Toy Story 5, though is keen to return to the role that "changed my life forever".
Haruka will find her morals truly put to the test in Hit-Monkey season 2. Hit-Monkey creators want the show to exist separately from the MCU to maintain its own unique universe and vibe. Despite being distinct, there is potential for Hit-Monkey to cameo in future MCU projects due to the multiverse concept. Hit-Monkey could fit well in the McU's Multiverse Saga, possibly in Avengers: Secret Wars or a new Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
The chances of Hit-Monkey crossing over with the Marvel Cinematic Universe are addressed by the series' co-creators. Hit-Monkey is a TV-ma animated series that follows a Japanese snow monkey who becomes an assassin to avenge his clan's death and is mentored by the ghost of Jason Sudeiki's Bryce Fowler, a world-class assassin. Despite focusing on a Marvel character, Hit-Monkey is not part of the MCU. However, with the release of Hit-Monkey season 2, the series' creators comment on a possible MCU crossover.

DC might have a bigger and better coterie of memorable simian characters, but Marvel has one-upped them by bringing their most notorious ape anti-hero to lead an animated series, with Hit-Monkey back in 2021, arguably their best animation work in recent years as well. Don’t get us wrong, we loved X-Men’97, but it lacked the raw style and unadulterated fun that a gun-katana-wielding macaque assassin dressed to the nines can bring to the screen. With a deadly swagger and a kill streak long enough to impress even Baba Yaga and Agent 47, Hulu’s Hit-Monkey is returning with a second season later this week. To get up to speed with the story so far, let us dive into the monkey business.

The calls for Marvel to let go of its four-quadrant approach strategy continued all summer, despite the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. Around Marvel, challengers for superhero storytelling, like Invincible and The Boys, continue to draw acclaim. Lucky for Marvel, Hit-Monkey returns with a second season, allowing the bloody animated series to occupy that space for them. Almost completely disconnected from the Avengers characters one usually associates with Marvel, Hit-Monkey highlights a unique angle for the studio. It’ll be curious to see if they follow this path, because the results make for an incredibly fun and emotional story.

In 2024, Marvel and DC are rebounding from lower release numbers with new TV shows and movies. Major projects include Deadpool & Wolverine, Joker: Folie Deux, and Batman: Caped Crusader. Expect familiar characters like Harley Quinn, Penguin, and Creature Commandos on screen.
Despite the MCU taking a more measured approach to their releases, and the Dcu having yet to release their first official title, there are a lot of projects coming from Marvel and DC still in 2024. The last few years have seen the number of prjects from Marvel and DC reduce significantly. With the pandemic, strikes in Hollywood, and higher levels of negative feedback for superhero movies and TV shows, there was a steep decline in official releases.
Additionally, with the negative responses surrounding Marvel TV shows on Disney+, and the restructuring of DC's offerings with the newly established DC Studios, comic book-inspired projects were few and far between. However, in...

The man behind Hulu's Hit-Monkey spoke with The Direct about the show’s upcoming Season 2, the new chaotic setting of New York City, and how his primate assassin differs from his other Marvel role as Devil Dinosaur.
The series follows a snow monkey who, after losing his tribe to an evil group of humans, takes it upon himself to take up arms and gun down every last person responsible.
To add to the wackiness of the whole situation, he is also straddled by the additional presence of Bryce, a ghost whose spirit can’t move on to the afterlife and who was the target of the hit that resulted in the death of Hit-Monkey’s tribe.

Actress Cristin Milioti is capturing attention in her new role as mafia family member Sofia Falcone, starring alongside Colin Farrell in Max’s upcoming series “The Penguin,” one of two comic book adaptations she’s appearing in this year. In May, Hulu announced she will join the cast of “Hit Monkey” for the animated show’s second season, premiering on July 15. But this is hardly the first time the actress has starred in a major movie or show. If you’ve seen the trailer new teaser for “The Penguin” and are wondering what you’ve seen her in before, here are some of her top credits on IMDb so far.
The Wolf of Wall Street
Cristin Miliotti may not be the first actor you think of when you recall Martin Scorsese’s 2013 exploration of greed ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ but the actress plays an integral role in the story of fraudulent stockbroker Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. As Teresa Petrillo, Militoi brought to life Belfort’s first wife, who was eventually replaced by Naomi Lapaglia (Margot Robbie), aka The Dutchess.
Palm Springs
Andy Samberg’s 2020 time loop comedy was embraced by critics and fans alike, with a 7.4 star rating on IMDb. But Samberg’s Nyles would have been even more lost without Cristin Militoi as Sarah, a fellow wedding guest and love interest who gets trapped with him in a time loop, repeatedly attending the same wedding for somewhere between 40 and 40 million years.
Black Mirror
“Black Mirror” has featured many talented actors, from Daniel Kaluuya and Bryce Dallas Howard to Aaron Paul and Letitia Wright. Cristin Milioti became a “Black Mirror” alum in 2017 when she starred opposite Jesse Plemons in the Season 4 opener, “USS Callister.” In the Emmy-winning episode, Milioti plays a programmer trapped in a virtual world by her reclusive coworker harboring secret possessive fantasies.
Made for Love
“The Penguin” won’t be Cristin Milioti’s first time on a Max original series. In 2021, the actress starred in “Made for Love,” a sci-fi dramedy about a tech billionaire’s ex who discovers a tracking device implanted in her brain.
Notable TV Roles
Throughout the 2010s, Milioti also appeared in recurring roles on several popular shows you may have watched. She played the eponymous Mother in “How I Met Your Mother,” the coked out stockbroker Whitney in “The Mindy Project,” and as cancer-stricken Betsy Solverson in Season 2 of “Fargo.”

Marvel Studios has drastically reduced its output since Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO, with the hope being to get back to quality over quantity. That's led to fewer TV shows on Disney+, but at least two more Marvel Animation titles will reportedly be released this year.
According to What's On Disney Plus (via Toonado.com), the streamer has sent out an updated 2024 slate which names Black Panther spin-off Eyes Of Wakanda and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (previously known as Spider-Man: Freshman Year) as being among the platform's 2024 offerings.
Other Marvel titles mentioned include Hit-Monkey season 2 (a Marvel Television leftover), Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Deadpool & Wolverine. Only Hit-Monkey has a confirmed launch date of July 15; the rest are currently undated.
