Barry & Joan

1 review
10/10

An ode to talent and delight.

Every moment of this documentary is both playful and yet profoundly moving. It allows the personalities of both Barry and Joan to breath and shine through so that you feel like you've known them your entire lives... and what people to know.

Unparalleled in raw talent and yet humble to the core. Average, yet extraordinary. They exude this delight that they want all around them to join. A ring of playful merriment that is so pure and true and deeply human.

Every movement, syllable and intonation is the embodiment of human character in Barry. Each face and posture feel like a perfect sculpture. He effortlessly moves from one masterpiece to the next. But it is the stillness. That is his power. The control is sublime to watch.

And sweet Joan. Never have you seen anyone so adorable. It's like every grandma combined into one who can somehow crack out any piano tune you like, one handed, talking to the dancers across the room.

If you have any inclination towards theatre, comedy, history, music, or people, I'd highly recommend you watch this short film.
