Black Diamond

After losing her mother at a young age, a girl named "Diamond" (Harli Stone) is taken in by her "Granny" (Rhonda Francis) and raised in a strict yet loving environment. Consequently, she grows into an intelligent and respected young woman. However, after her grandmother is killed by a street thug, a now mature "Diamond" (now played by Cali Sonte) discovers that the woman who cared for her all these years was actually the leading drug dealer for the entire Dallas metroplex. Not only that, but Granny ran her drug empire with an iron fist, ruthlessly eliminating anyone who got in her way. Not knowing what else to do, Diamond becomes determined to seek revenge on the person responsible for her grandmother's death. In the process, she decides to take over her grandmother's business, leading to a crime wave of unprecedented proportions. Now, rather than revealing more, I'll just say that this film faced several issues, the main one being the poor editing that made some parts quite tedious. For example, after Granny's murder, the funeral dragged on too long and didn't significantly contribute to the overall plot. Similarly, several flashbacks included previous scenes that were also quite unnecessary. Another issue was the action scenes, in which the actors appeared to be using toy guns instead of real ones--very amateurish, in my opinion. Surprisingly, the acting was commendable, with both Cali Sonte and Rhonda Francis delivering strong performances, given the circumstances. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to overcome the aforementioned faults, and I have rated this movie accordingly. Below average.
