A thoughtful character-driven film

I saw this Iowa-produced independent film at a public screening. It is a thoughtful character-driven story. It is, at one level, a "boy meets girl" story, exploring two people of very different backgrounds and whether their relationship can survive. The filmmakers take the story in unexpected directions and leave the audience guessing the outcome until the last moment.

I thought that the acting was largely on-point and the cinematography had some striking scenes. The filming locations were well-selected. On a quality theater sound system, the soundtrack had subtle nuances, particularly in authentic background environmental sounds.

This was an independent film that was shot on quite a small budget (I know this from the screening). A budget ten or 100 times the size would have provided some production value opportunities, but it would not have changed the fundamental story and message of the film.

If you are looking for action adventure and slick special effects, this is not the movie for you. But if you are looking for thoughtful drama, character insights, and a serious message, it is worth your time.

The Script is the best part of the film.

The script for "Ever Fallen" is overall decent. The dialogue is entertaining, funny with a purpose, but cliche. The acting is notable at times as well. What makes this film a 4/10 is the audio, directing, and editing. The audio is worst than nails scratching a chalkboard. Aside from the mediocre sound, the directing becomes cliche and a knock of version of director Noah Baumbach. Theres's no sense of originality. The editing would be a good first try if it was made from a high school student. However, this is collegiate professor whose job is in media production. All things aside, please note the director "encouraged" the crew to give positive reviews.Overall, the script for "Ever Fallen" is good/ decent. The film, however, does not do justice for the actors, production designer, or anyone involved with this film.

can't believe this was nominated for awards

I heard this was nominated for some awards in iowa. i live in iowa so i know there's not a lot of movies being made here so i figured i would check it out. you just search for it and it comes up on filmfreeway to watch for free.

even for iowa standards this is excruciating. the plot barely exists. the lead guy talks like he has no emotion. i'm never given any reason to care about the characters. the sound is an abomination. seriously, i have never seen a movie with audio this bad. it's embarrassing that this is standard of filmmaking here in iowa. last time i waste two hours supporting local 'award winning' film. what a joke.

Teens are the same yesterday, today and forever

As an 80's kid I felt this movie to the core. Reminded me of how I felt when I saw Pretty in Pink for the first time. The music, the clothes, the teen angst. All of it! Every generation has its story of finding their true self and this is the film for 2020.

Timeless Work

Great film with a timeless story. The work of the cast and crew did not go unnoticed. Original and creative, great twist on the "wrong side of the tracks" love story.

Fun and stylish romantic drama

I have had the great privilege of watching this movie and its concepts unfold under the direction and artistry of MG White. I found the use of well timed humor along with the heartfelt dialogue of the main characters to show effective realism to the plot. The main characters sincerity and their emotions along with the excellent dialogue in the script give this movie an oftentimes acerbically amusing and bittersweet feel throughout the film. The supporting cast were excellent as well, giving depth to the story and showcasing Dr White's talent for creating diverse characters with their own special flair. I would recommend this film to anyone who is a lover of the punk scene, as the characters embody that rogue feel in their demeanor and in the brilliant costume design. Modern neo-punk flair retrofits perfectly with the nods to classic punk style in this fun and darling romantic comedy. In my opinion this is a must-see!

Good Local Film but Beware of the Reviews...

I had the pleasure of seeing this film when it premiered last fall and I totally loved it! The acting was great, especially because the actors are so young! The leads really killed it. The writing was awesome and felt very believable. The editing was also really cool to me for someone who enjoys older film as this feels like a 50s/60s movie. The costuming and makeup was beautiful as well and I loved the purposeful red/black coloring of the film. Of course, there were some audio issues but this is a small budget indie, so I won't dock much from my rating. However, I thought the over dubs were good and if they hadn't said anything before I probably wouldn't have even noticed!

However, I have seen some reviews on here stating that the director instructed people to leave "emergency positive reviews." This isn't true. He encouraged people to leave a good review IF they genuinely enjoyed the film. This isn't bad or "weird," this is a common business practice. That's just the industry.

What's truly "weird," however, is that the real story behind all this isn't being told. It seems a cast member has been running a twitter-based smear campaign again the film and asking people to leave bad reviews. So, if you're reading this, I wouldn't trust some of these less than desirable reviews. This person has no idea how much this affects everyone who worked so hard on this film. When I attended the screening, I spoke with the director and he seemed so passionate about the work, as did many of the cast and crew members. After seeing how some acted at the premier and now this, I am heartbroken that someone would go to so much effort just to hurt others. Constructive criticism is great, but malicious slander is just uncalled for.

Visually pleasing and greatly nostalgic

I saw this in Wayne with a few old friends of mine, and we were blown away by Dr. Whites film. Ive seen him around campus, but didn't know he made his own films! The actors are great, the cloths were punk, and the makeup was BEAUTIFUL. I loved the indie rock soundtrack. The meuseum scene was so stunning. My friend Yasmine cried because of the story line, she wanted so badly to know what happens next. The audio was off in some areas but that's my only compliant. While I was there at the Wayne Theatre, one of the main actors laughed and bad mouthed the film at the premier very loudly in the audience. I do not recommend you cast her again. Overall, great work for a low budget film
