US sales agent WME Independent has picked up international sales to upcoming Thai family drama How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies from Bad Genius producer Gdh 559.
It marks the first collaboration between the two firms and is also the first time major Thai studio Gdh 559 has not handled international sales on one of its own titles.
WME Independent will represent the film internationally, excluding Thailand, which will be handled by Gdh, and will introduce the title to buyers in Berlin during the EFM next week.
The Thai-language feature centres on a young man who quits his job to look after his dying grandmother.

Gdh plans to acquire three to four international films per year.
Bangkok-based Gdh 559 has acquired Celine Song’s Past Lives from A24, which it will release theatrically in Thailand as its first non-Thai film.
Gdh is expanding into the theatrical distribution of international features through new business unit Out Of The Box. The US romantic drama, which proved one of the most critically lauded selections at this year’s Sundance and Berlinale, will be released in Thai cinemas on July 6.
The Korean and English-language drama centres on childhood friends who reunite in New York two decades after one family emigrated from South Korea.

TV’s reboot and revival craze is showing no signs of slowing down — they have to run out of old shows to redo at some point, right? Right?!? — and ABC’s new take on The Wonder Years ups the ante by offering a double dose of nostalgia: a wistful remembrance of an ’80s TV show that was itself a wistful remembrance of life in the ’60s. That’s a lot of wistful remembering!
This new Wonder Years — premiering next Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 8:30/7:30c; I’ve seen the pilot — does have big shoes to fill: The original series was a TV trailblazer,...

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is in the middle of being lightly reprimanded. One of the lounges located in Atlantic Records’ Manhattan office is shrouded in pungent weed smoke and filled with the laughter of the Highbridge rapper, and the light clacking of his jewelry. “You got Hr calling me,” an Atlantic employee says, complaining of the weed smoke, as she barges in on the seated rapper. “It’s bad?” Boogie asks with an air of faux innocence. Only a few minutes earlier, he admitted he knows this isn’t the designated smoking room.

As China gears up for a big political anniversary and national holiday, its box office has been dominated by innocuous animal films and local fare capable of keeping censors happy but unable to make that huge of a splash. None of the top four weekend titles has scored more than 7 out of 10 on the key user-review platform Douban.
“Little Q,” a heartwarming dog film from Hong Kong, led China’s weekend box office with a $9.6 million debut, despite a delayed release date and continued tensions between the mainland and the special administrative region.
The film was directed by Wing-cheong Law, a longtime collaborate of Johnnie To and winner of a 2002 Golden Horse Award for best editing on “Running Out of Time 2,” and stars veteran Hong Kong actor Simon Yam. The movie is based on a true story retold in a Japanese novel by Ryohei Akimoto and Kengo Ishiguro, which was adapted into “Quill,...
