In the latest edition of Rolling Stone’s Spoken Dialogue series, the writer and poet Hanif Abdurraqib sits down with critic and scholar Daphne A. Brooks for a personal, genre-spanning conversation.
The two writers spoke about the interrelated themes of their new books: Brooks’ Liner Notes for the Revolution, a canon-redefining history of black feminist sound, and Abdurraqib’s A Little Devil in America, a book of essays on black performance. Touching on rock criticism and black feminist critique, the two writers discussed everything from Josephine Baker to Toni Morrison...

Evanescence conjure a post-apocalyptic wasteland in the new video for their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.”
The clip was directed by P.R. Brown and finds the band performing the song while bathed in red light as smoke hovers around them. The clip is interspersed with some footage from the video game Gears of War 5 — for which the cover was recorded — as well as some sprawling desert scenes.
As Revolver noted, the video closes with a shot of drummer Will Hunt’s drum kit on fire, ostensibly a reference...

The fitting climax of Harry Styles’ album-launch bash on Friday night: the moment Stevie Nicks came out to join him for a surprise duet on “Landslide.” “For me, it wouldn’t be an album release without this young lady,” he told a rapt L.A. Forum crowd who’d already heard him debut the fantastic new Fine Line in its entirety. “I have a feeling you’re going to enjoy this as much as me. Please welcome to the stage, Stevie Nicks.” Never one to make a shy entrance, the...

As Gold Derby predicted, Tuesday night’s episode of “The Voice” turned out to be the end of the road for Cali Wilson of Team Blake Shelton. This 28-year-old rocker from Salem, Iowa performed “The Chain” as her “save me” song (watch above), but the live Twitter voters chose to save Joana Martinez of Team Gwen Stefani instead. That resulted in the eliminations of Cali and Max Boyle of Team Kelly Clarkson, the other member of the bottom three. Will you miss Cali on “The Voice”? Sound off down in the comments section.

Country supergroup the Highwomen, consisting of Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby, are the musical guests on Thursday’s episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show. During the appearance, the quartet chatted with the host and performed the song “Redesigning Women.”
For their performance, the group gets some instrumental assistance from twin brothers Tim and Phil Hanseroth, who have been Carlile’s long-time collaborators, as well as Shires’ husband Jason Isbell on guitar. For much of “Redesigning Women,” the group’s members sing in unison, symbolically placing everyone on equal footing,...

Let's be clear: Stevie Nicks is a national treasure. The 71-year-old singer, songwriter, and tambourine icon first sang her way into our hearts back in the early '70s when she joined Fleetwood Mac. She's given us classics like "Rhiannon," "Dreams," "Landslide," and (my personal favorite) "Silver Springs" and has continued to captivate us decades later with her soulful performances both on stage and on screen in American Horror Story. Stevie (born Stephanie Lynn Nicks) has also cemented her status as a paragon of style thanks to her signature floaty dresses, silk scarves, and fanciful top hats.
In March 2019, Stevie became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice - she was first honored as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1998, and again this year for her extensive solo career. Keep reading for some of Stevie's best photos, which are best scrolled through while blasting "The Chain.

The Highwomen’s debut album isn’t out until September 6th, but the country supergroup has been seemingly everywhere since first releasing the LP’s lead single “Redesigning Women” earlier this month. On Tuesday night, the four women — Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby, and Maren Morris — performed the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, making their late-night TV debut.
Outfitted in their sequined and embroidered suits, the songwriters harmonized on the verses about the responsibilities of the modern-day woman and the superhuman ways they get things done.

After making their official introduction last week with the track “Redesigning Women,” the Highwomen have now put their spin on a four-part harmony classic for an upcoming film. In the new trailer for The Kitchen, which comes out August 9th, the foursome of Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, and Maren Morris can be heard singing Fleetwood Mac’s ominous tune “The Chain.”

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has acquired the screen rights to Adrian McKinty’s novel The Chain in a deal that calls for a guaranteed low-seven-figure payday for the author, an Uber driver until a series of deals for the book changed his life. The book will be published by Little Brown/Mulholland on July 9.
The Chain tells the story of Rachel, who learns that her 11-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. The only way to get her back is to kidnap another child. Her daughter will be released only when that next victim’s parents kidnap another child. If Rachel doesn’t kidnap another child, or if that child’s parents don’t kidnap a child, her daughter will be murdered. She is now part of The Chain, a terrifying and meticulous chain letter-like kidnapping scheme that turns parents from victims into criminals.

Hey, "The Voice" fans. Tonight, April 29, 2019, the top 24 finally performed for your votes to get into the top 13. Of course, the judges: Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton were on hand like they always are. For the first time, Apple streams will count as votes. There's a limit of ten streams per eligible song per Apple ID. To get things started tonight, Rod Stokes from Team Kelly hit the stage to sing, "Midnight Rider" by Allman Brothers. They didn't go to the judges for any comments on his performance or any other performances. I'm guessing that's because of time constraints. I mean they had 24 freaking people performing tonight. So, they had to hurry it along. The Voice gets good rating, but not that good. NBC's like, "You guys gotta wrap this show up in two hours." With that said, Matthew Johnson from Team Kelly Clarkson hopped on stage to sing,...

Sharpen the axe! Which of the contenders sounded like they were in the clear, and which sounded like they were in trouble? Let’s discuss…

Monday’s two-hour episode of “The Voice” will be jam-packed as two dozen artists take to the stage to sing for America’s votes. Unlike previous seasons of the hit show, this 16th edition does not have the coaches coming into this round with the same-sized teams. Rather, following the live cross battles, Blake Shelton boasts a roster of eight artists while his pal Adam Levine has only four. Both reigning two-time champ Kelly Clarkson and rookie coach John Legend have the usual six artists apiece on their teams.
We’ve done some digging on iTunes and have discovered spoilers of the songs that the Top 24 will perform live on April 29. Take a look below at the titles of these tunes as well as the names of the artists that made them famous. Then cast your vote for the coach that you think has the strongest team at this stage of the season 16 competition.

Stevie Nicks kicked off the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony with her windblown classic, “Stand Back.” She paid tribute to its inspiration and co-writer Prince with purple lights bathing the audience. She twirled 11 times during the guitar solo with her (original!) gold and black shawl cascading around her. She followed with “Leather and Lace,” with Henley slowly walking to the front of the stage from the back. They locked eyes as they harmonized through the duet. After Henley exited, she introduced former One Direction star Harry Styles, who...

Late last week, the shocking news arrived that Lindsey Buckingham had undergone emergency heart surgery that caused damage to his vocal cords. “He is now recuperating at home and each day he is stronger than the last,” his wife Kristen Buckingham said in a statement. “While it is unclear if this damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.”
The health scare came almost exactly a year after he learned that Fleetwood Mac had thrown him out of the band after Stevie Nicks said she could no longer work with him.
