Actors Woody Harrelson (“Triangle of Sadness”) and Kerry Condon (“Night Swim”) are reportedly attached to star in “Giant,” an English remake of the 2013 romantic comedy “Corazón de León.” If you’re not familiar with the previous iteration, the movie saw a woman getting romantically involved with a very short older man and explored the prejudices surrounding that situation with both humor and heart.

Blumhouse horror movies tend to be somewhat polarizing. The company has produced plenty of hits, like The Black Phone, M3GAN, Get Out, and Happy Death Day, but it has also distributed its fair share of duds (last year was rough between Night Swim and Imaginary), making it hard to suss out whether or not upcoming films will be good.
But I have to say, the latest trailer for The Woman in the Yard has me excited, especially since it looks like this isolated rural horror film will lean heavily into some Flannery O'Connor/folk horror vibes. That, coupled with the fact it was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra—the man behind House of Wax, The Shallows, Orphan, and Carry-On—has me excited. Watch the newly released trailer embedded above.

M3GANwas a surprise horror hit in 2023, with the movie becoming a veritable meme with its success. Now, the first footage of its follow-up has finally been released, and it's already making all the right moves. This is exactly what the production company behind the film needs, especially given recent releases.
Blumhouse was once synonymous with the horror genre in the 2010s, with the studio seeing several major hits that scared up a lot of money at the box office. In the past few years, however, there's been a saddening case of diminishing returns and a tarnished reputation for the studio. M3GAN 2.0 can help turn that around, but if it fails to achieve this, it can potentially do even more damage.

While we wait for Orphan 3, which was officially announced last November, franchise star Isabelle Fuhrman has set up her next project. Fuhrman will star in the thriller Die by Night.
Variety details this afternoon that Ben Hardy and Scoot McNairy will also star in the dystopian movie.
The outlet also reports, “The feature is being launched by Protagonist Pictures ahead of the upcoming EFM in Berlin. Protagonist is handling international sales while UTA Independent Film Group is representing North American rights.”
Die by Night is set over the course of one night in a world where “the only way to survive to see a new day is to trust each other and stay in the light until you make it to The Wall.”
Creatures known as The Horde hunt down surviving humans in the dark in the film’s post-apocalyptic world, where long stretches of darkness plunge the world into chaos.

Update: The 4-day-holiday estimates have come in from Comscore, and it looks like Mufasa: The Lion King was able to edge out One of Them Days to take the top spot. Propelled by holiday matinees, Mufasa made $15.5 million compared to One of Them Days‘s $14.225 million. The weekend’s big flop, Wolf Man, clawed its way to a third-place finish with $12.5 million. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 wasn’t far behind with $11 million, while Moana 2 was able to pull ahead of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera with an $8.1 million gross. That was all expected, given that school is out for Martin Luther King Day, so a lot of folks are taking their kids to see movies. Even still, this was one of the lowest-grossing MLK weekends on record, as last year Mean Girls and The Beekeeper proved to be breakout hits. Nothing this weekend even came close to the $33 million...

Wolf Man has had an unpromising global debut. The Universal monster remake follows a man (Christopher Abbott) whose lycanthropic transformation threatens the lives of his wife (Julia Garner) and daughter (Matilda Firth), who are trapped in a house with him. The Blumhouse movie was directed by Leigh Whannell, who previously helmed the 2020 remake The Invisible Man to great critical and commercial success. The Wolf Man release began during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, taking No. 3 at the domestic box office behind the 2024 hit Mufasa: The Lion King and the comedy One of Them Days.
Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Wolf Man is projected to close out its opening weekend with a worldwide box office gross of $15.3 million. This total comes from an underwhelming $4.83 million haul from 53 international markets, combined with a roughly $10.5 million 3-day domestic total. There’s good news at the MLK weekend box office for films like Sony’s new buddy comedy “One of Them Days” as well as more milestones for Christmas holdovers “Mufasa” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” but this holiday period is proving to be a weak one for theaters.
Overall grosses for the 4-day period are expected to fall to $96-100 million, an 18% drop from last year. “Mufasa” is taking No. 1 with an estimated 4-day total of $15.5 million in its fifth weekend, which is the lowest No. 1 total seen on an MLK weekend since the unadjusted $14 million 4-day holdover total of the Brad Pitt/Anthony Hopkins western “Legends of the Fall” way back in 1995, according to Box Office Mojo.
For Disney, this $15.5 million total for “Mufasa” is just fine, as it pushes the film’s domestic total past $200 million while its global total reaches $588 million. Though a world away from...

Wondrous Is the Silence of My Master, director Ivan Salatić’s sophomore feature, will be world premiering in the Tiger Competition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), which runs Jan. 30-Feb. 9. THR can here present an exclusive trailer for the cinematic reflection on identity, displacement, and home.
Written and directed by Salatić, the movie stars Marko Pogačar, Croatia’s most translated contemporary poet in his debut film role, Luka Petrone, Jakov Zovko, and Vanja Matic.
The film is set in 19th-century Montenegro “where tribes led by a poet and a bishop named Morlak (Pogačar) are locked in an age-old struggle against a common enemy,” according to a synopsis. “When Morlak falls gravely ill, he sets out in search of a cure, leaving behind his war-torn homeland. Along with his daughter and two loyal servants, Morlak settles in a remote house in southern Italy, hoping for healing and peace.”

Blumhouse has had a lot of success opening horror movies in January. M3GAN was a blockbuster, as was Leigh Whannel’s The Invisible Man, and this year, they’ve got another horror flick that seems bound for a number-one finish. Indeed, Wolf Man, which also comes from Whannell, was initially one of the most anticipated horror titles of 2025. However, in recent weeks, the buzz around the film has cooled, with poor reactions to the movie’s new werewolf designs, and mixed reviews that revealed the film lacks scares and does away with a lot of the classic character’s lore.
Even still, the movie is set to dominate the box office, although its opening seems to be more in line with last year’s Night Swim ($12 million) than either M3GAN ($30.4 million) or The Invisible Man ($28 million). As such, I’m expecting Wolf Man will open with about $17 million, which, given its rumoured $25 million budget,...

Blumhouse Pictures, the kings of horror at the box office for the past decade, didn’t make a big splash at the box office in 2024. This year looks to be much different, starting this weekend with Leigh Whannell’s “Wolf Man.”
According to exhibitors and rival distributors, “Wolf Man” is projected for a 3-day opening in the high teens. With MLK Day included, the Universal release is expected to earn a 4-day opening above $20 million.
This would be a higher opening than any of Blumhouse’s launches in 2024, as their last January release, “Night Swim,” and their September remake of “Speak No Evil” both opened to around $11 million. “Speak No Evil” was Blumhouse’s top film last year with $36.9 million domestic and $75.7 million worldwide.
To be clear, none of Blumhouse’s 2024 films were flops, easily clearing their production budgets which never exceeded $15 million. But 2024 was also only the second year...

Blumhouse is back with what seems like an annual horror movie release with Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man, a reboot of 1941's The Wolf Man, the first film to feature the classic Universal movie monster. While January is sometimes seen as a dumping ground for lackluster horror movies, the lift of the review embargo on Wolf Man indicates that Blumhouse isn't repeating the massive issues of their last early release, Night Swim. In fact, Whannell's take is an ambitious enough addition to the new generation of Universal monster movies the company has been making that began with 2020's The Invisible Man, but its characterizations are lacking compared to its predecessor.

Nosferatu, Robert Eggers' outstanding modern adaptation of the 1922 classic by F.W. Murnau, has reached a major milestone in the performance metrics of 2024. Recently released on Christmas Day, 2024, the vampire movie has made more than $135 million at the box office and has sailed past major releases like Longlegs and The Substance, making it the highest-grossing horror movie of the year that wasn't a prequel or a sequel. Sure, it's still a remake, so it's too soon to say that audiences have embraced originality, though it's a remake of a century-old film (not counting Werner Herzog's 1979 version).
1922's loose adaptation of Bram Stoker's vampire classic Dracula (reworked for legal reasons at the time), Nosferatu has long been esteemed as one of the greatest horror films of all time. 2024's remake was a passion project for Eggers, whose idea for a new adaptation had been brewing in his mind since he...

Nosferatu has broken a major horror movie record by surpassing Longlegs at the box office. The latter movie, which was directed by Osgood Perkins, is a smash hit serial killer thriller starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage that grossed $127 million worldwide against a slim budget of less than $10 million after debuting on July 12, 2024. The Nosferatu release came much later, as the Robert Eggers remake of the iconic 1922 silent vampire film of the same name debuted on Christmas Day, becoming the highest-grossing new release over the holiday weekend.
Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Nosferatu is projected to close out its third weekend in theaters with a 3-day domestic gross of $6.8 million in North America and $13.7 million internationally. This will bring its cumulative global box office total to $135 million, surpassing Longlegs' worldwide gross by $8 million. Leigh Whannell may not be a name that everyone knows but, if you're a horror fan, he's undoubtedly touched your life in some way over the past 20 years. As the co-creator of both the long-running hit "Saw" franchise as well as "Insidious," he's certainly made a mark. That's to say nothing of his work as a director, which includes "Upgrade" and "The Invisible Man." In other words, Whannell's work is worth paying attention to. Case in point, his new take on "Wolf Man" is drawing more than a few eyeballs and figures to be a big hit for Blumhouse and Universal when it reaches theaters next weekend.
"Wolf Man" is currently looking at an opening weekend in the $20 to $30 million range, per Box Office Theory. That would be a solid start, particularly for a movie that was made on a shoestring $7 million production budget. Granted, that doesn't include marketing but,...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced on Monday the 207 feature films eligible for Best Picture consideration, two days before voting for the 2025 Oscar nominations begins.
There are 323 feature films eligible for the Academy Awards, but just 207 met the Best Picture competition eligibility requirements.
As stated by the Academy in a press release, “To be eligible for consideration in the general entry categories, under rules implemented for the 97th Academy Awards year, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the City of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, and complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue. A stronger Christmas continues to provide major dividends as four major family titles and three unusually strong specialized releases got 2025 off to an improved start. “Mufasa: The Lion King” (Disney), #2 last weekend, took #1 for the first time in its three-week run, ahead of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” (Paramount). “Nosferatu” (Focus), #3 overall, is tops among the more adult-appeal titles, and has a real chance to hit $100 million in U.S./Canada totals.
The weekend total of $106 million is 21 percent better than the first 2024 weekend, made even more remarkable with no new wide release. Last year, “Nightswim” opened to just under $12 million. Though no single January 2025 release looks like a breakout (Universal’s “Wolf Man” on January 17 looks best), the month could start 2025 at 15 percent or more ahead last year.
Holdovers were strong, particularly compared to a holiday weekend. “Mufasa,” only $200,000 behind “Sonic” last week, held better with a 35 percent drop compared to 43 percent.

To tweak Hugh Grant’s best line in “Love Actually,” horror actually is all around.
Whether you’re riding into the new year on your high horse or calmly preparing to walk into the sea, 2025 is a turning point. There’s no genre that tells us who we are or what we’re made of like this one, and the past twelve months have offered audiences a slew of scary stories full of shocks and surprises that were mostly open to interpretation.

As good as 2024 has been for horror, there’s always a ying to any yang, and the other side of the coin was pretty rough. While we saw some major bombs in the way of The Crow and disappointing box office performances via Cuckoo, We’re talking about the truly bad. And wouldn’t you know it, this year most of them have been produced by one company. Blumhouse. I’m not sure why it is that they’ve seemingly become completely creatively bankrupt but I’ve experienced it in the theaters. The moment that Blumhouse logo comes up and an entire audience collectively sighs. And it wasn’t that way just a few years ago. But after killer Teddy Bears, an AI killer house, and a haunted Swimming Pool, they’ve definitely lost the plot. This may as well be called the “What the Hell Happened To Blumhouse” video,...

The Man In The White Van's Warren Skeels On Balancing True Story With Horror & Casting Madison Wolfe
Warren Skeels is jumping into the director's chair for his first movie with The Man in the White Van. Skeels previously got his start in the entertainment industry in front of the camera, co-starring in everything from the ABC family comedy Summertime Switch to the drama Surfacing: Aka A Letter from My Father, which he also wrote and produced, while future two-time Emmy nominee Craig Zobel (Mare of Easttown) directed. Skeels went on to make a name for himself as the co-creator of the MTV reality show, Siesta Key, which ran for five seasons on the network.
Skeels has partnered with Sharon Y. Cobb to co-write and direct The Man in the White Van, which marks his feature directorial debut. The movie is based on the true story of Billy Mansfield Jr., a serial killer, child molester and sex offender who, throughout the '70s and early '80s, committed...

In the 1970s, serial killers rose to prominence, kidnapping and murdering people in succession. One of these gruesome figures is the inspiration behind director Warren Skeels's horror-thriller, The Man In the White Van. In 1975, rebellious, horseback-riding teenager Annie (Madison Wolfe) lives a relatively simple and comfortable life in rural Florida. While she may butt heads with her more traditional mother (Ali Larter) and sister (Brec Bassinger), she at least has the respect of her father (Sean Astin), admiration of her little brother, Daniel (Gavin Warren), and the support and loyalty of her bold and fearless best friend, Patty (Skai Jackson). However, when an ominous white van begins appearing around her home and school, following her every move, Annie's world begins to crumble, and she will need all the help and support from her friends and loved ones that she can get to survive.

It’s been a head-scratcher of a year for horror, with some boldly original new films and more than a few flops. As the genre continues to gain mainstream acceptance, there’s bound to be an influx of duds—but I think we all would’ve been just fine without the haunted pool movie “Night Swim.”

When it comes to horror, Blumhouse continues to be a Hollywood leader in terms of its output. The company is behind horror hits like Get Out (2017), M3GAN (2022), Hush (2016), and The Invisible Man (2021), with the Blumhouse model dating back to 2007's Paranormal Activity. Making films at low budget levels, giving filmmakers creative freedom, and releasing horror films through the studio system is how Blumhouse operates, and it's resulted in some strong slates in recent years.
Blumhouse has had a relatively strong 2024, starting the year off with Night Swim, which may not have fared well with critics but was a box office success. The same can be said for Imaginary, but the company's following movie, Afraid, failed to really connect critically or commercially. In September, however, Blumhouse released a horror movie that can be considered its best of the year, earning strong scores on Rotten Tomatoes and striking gold at the box office.

Based in part on the real-life crimes of Billy Mansfield Jr., The Man in the White Van is a 1970s set thriller from director Warren Skeels and co-writer Sharon Y. Cobb. It opens with a prologue set in 1970 showing the killer at work before jumping ahead to 1975 where Annie is riding her horse while Edgar Winter’s “Free Ride” plays on the soundtrack.
Annie is the middle child, with an older sister, Margaret who is about to be presented at the Debutant’s Ball, and a gun-obsessed younger brother Daniel.
Her parents Hellen and William wish she was more like Margaret rather than a tomboy who’s more interested in riding horses than being proper or caring if her legs are properly shaved.

Deadline reports that Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*) is in talks to join Steven Spielberg’s upcoming event movie. The project already boasts a cast which includes Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Colman Domingo (Euphoria), Eve Hewson (Hedda), and Josh O’Connor (Challengers).
We don’t know much about the project itself, only that it’s said to be a UFO movie based on Spielberg’s own original idea, with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) writing the screenplay. Netflix has often been a venue for theatrical flops to find new life, and it's currently providing that service for a 2024 horror film you likely missed. "Afraid" was Blumhouse's third of five horror movies this year, following "Night Swim" and "Imaginary" and preceding "Speak No Evil" and "House of Spoils." There are more duds than hits in that batch, making 2024 a rough year for Blumhouse. "Afraid" (stylized occasionally as "AfrAId") currently holding an abysmal 22% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. At 55%, the audience score is much better, but still not great.
But hey, sometimes when you're scrolling Netflix late at night, all you want is a ridiculous, silly horror flick to throw on and pass the time with. At the time of this writing, "Afraid" is residing in the number seven spot in Netflix's daily Top 10 movies for the United States (via FlixPatrol). Wicked has surged past the competition at the worldwide box office. The Wizard of Oz prequel, which was directed by Jon M. Chu, is adapted from the first act of the 2003 Broadway musical of the same name and stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, opposite Ariana Grande-Butera as Galinda, the future Glinda the Good Witch. The Wicked release debuted with a whopping $112.5 million, which was the third highest-grossing opening weekend of the year up to that point.
Per Deadline, as of Sunday morning, the Wicked box office is projected to add $29 million in international markets by the end of its second weekend in theaters. With a cumulative international gross of $97 million and a domestic gross of roughly $262 million, the movie will have hit $359.3 million worldwide within just 10 days. After it failed to garner any traction at the box office, a 2024 Blumhouse movie is finding renewed success on Netflix. The indie studio best known for their horror output has enjoyed something of a mixed bag in the past couple of years when it's come to both the critical and commercial reception to their movies. For every record-breaking M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddy's, there's also been a near-franchise-destroying The Exorcist: Believer and lackluster Halloween Ends.
2024, in particular, has been something of a rockier year for Blumhouse. Having hoped to recapture the January release success of M3GAN, the horror short adaptation of Night Swim proved to be a critical misfire, albeit a modest box office success. The studio followed it up with four other releases, including the similarly panned Imaginary and the James McAvoy-starring English-language remake of Speak No Evil, which was a critical and commercial hit. Though people questioned the need for an American remake of a Danish horror flick thats only two years old, Speak No Evil went on to become a massive hit this year, earning more than $76 million at the box office. Produced by the famed horror company Blumhouse, the James McAvoy-led film is the studio's highest grossing movie of 2024, which isnt exactly saying a lot when you consider duds such as Night Swim, Imaginary, and AfrAId were its competition. Still, if you missed it in theaters and have yet to see it on VOD, Speak No Evils streaming date has just been revealed.
Per Deadline, the horror hit will hit Peacock on Dec. 6, so you dont have too much longer to see what is arguably one of McAvoys best performances in years. Starring as Paddy, Speak No Evil follows him and his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) as they welcome the Dalton...

Heretic has made a major step toward profitability. The new A24 horror movie was written and directed by A Quiet Place scribes Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and stars Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as a pair of Mormon missionaries who find themselves trapped in the home of Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), who experiments on them as he tries to argue them out of their faith. The Heretic release debuted at No. 3 at the domestic box office with a 3-day gross of $10.8 million.
Per Variety, as of Saturday morning, Heretic is projected to earn a 3-day gross of $4.6 million during its second weekend. A new look at Blumhouse’s upcoming creature feature Wolf Man gives us a longer look at a couple of scenes.
Leigh Whannell has dubbed his upcoming werewolf project for Blumhouse as a ‘straight-up horror movie’ and we’re very much behind that idea. Whilst twisting the classic Wolfman tale in the direction of comedy or drama has given us some interesting and enjoyable takes on the hairy monster over the years, one of the things we love about Whannell’s films is how he commits to the bite.
Perhaps 2018’s Upgrade is the best example of this, an old-fashioned action thriller with a gloss coat of splatterpunk violence applied, but a film that is entirely unironic in its presentation and an earnest take on the material. Considering Blumhouse’s January releases can veer wildly in tone – from the comic silliness of M3GAN to the schlocky mock drama of Night Swim,...

The surging horror movie hit of 2024 is now succeeding on streaming, too. With the year nearing its end, 2024 has been a great year for horror movies, with Alien: Romulus emerging as arguably the biggest hit of the year with over $350 million at the box office. A Quiet Place: Day One also capitalized on the established popularity of a franchise and pulled in over $260 million. On the lower-budget side of the spectrum, Blumhouse released several hits such as Speak No Evil, Imaginary, and Night Swim even if they didn't always resonate with critics.
Some of the year's most unique and unforgettable horror hits have come from indie film, including Longlegs starring Nicolas Cage, which leveraged a masterful marketing campaign to make over $100 million at the box office. Another unexpected success has been the unrated Terrifier 3 which, made on a minuscule budget of $2 million, made nearly $80 million at the box office.

Traditional horror movies with an easy-to-follow plot, relatable characters, and a healthy dose of scares are probably every horror fan’s comfort food. That’s because, when it comes to horror, the experimental and abstract genre pieces can be very hit or miss. In 2024 alone, I have come across In A Violent Nature, and I loved its take on the slasher subgenre. Bramayugam’s exploration of casteism and classism on a monochrome canvas was excellent. Oddity’s portrayal of revenge was haunting. And Outside’s use of the zombie subgenre to talk about the patriarchy was worthy of all the applause in the world. Then you have movies like Night Swim, The Devil’s Bath, Consumed, Baghead, The Hangman, Munjya, MadS, Mr. Crocket, and Don’t Move, which undoubtedly have a good concept at their core, but the execution is simply too muddled to be impactful. I am sad to say that...

For horror fans, October is sacred. Commonfolk wear costumes, visit haunted attractions, and celebrate all things festively creepy en masse. Television channels, streaming platforms, and theaters dedicate overwhelming program blocks of Halloween favorites. Horror is en vogue, but with that attention comes the invariable onslaught of taste-maker trades showing their whole-ass behinds. Those who treat horror as unworthy for 11 other calendar months suddenly have opinions about horror's "resurgence," "death," or incoming "fatigue." It's a clockwork tradition that riles internet hordes — with good reason.
This year, two specific articles dominated genre discussions despite their wildly unsubstantiated and data-ignorant claims. The Hollywood Reporter warned that studio executives are worried about "Horror Fatigue," while Vulture opted for the headline "Horror Movies Are Just Trying To Survive." I hate the phrase "Horror Fatigue"; it's a made-up phenomenon that's been disproven year after year. Yet, sites like THR and Vulture approach horror-centric journalism with a goldfish's attention span.

Despite some misfires, 2024 has been a relatively strong year for horror. Alien: Romulus is the most blockbuster-sized horror movie to succeed this year, and The First Omen is a critically-lauded standout. Lower-budget Blumhouse horror titles like Speak No Evil, Imaginary, and Night Swim have also been hits, even if not all struck a chord with critics. It's the indie space, however, that delivered some of this year's most memorable and unique horror movies.

Terrifier 3 has hit a huge domestic box office milestone. The Terrifier 3 box office debuted at No. 1, knocking Joker: Folie Deux from its perch in the comic book sequel's second weekend during a surprise upset. The slasher sequel, which follows a Christmastime rampage by Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), quickly rising past $60 million worldwide, a total that is 30 times its $2 million budget and nearly four times the $15.7 million the previous installment earned during its smash-hit theatrical run.
Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, Terrifier 3 is projected to take in a 3-day total of $3.1 million at the domestic box office during its fourth weekend in theaters, bringing its cumulative domestic total to $50.4 million. This makes it the 33rd movie of the year to pass the $50 million milestone, ahead of other horror movies including Speak No Evil ($36.8 million), The Strangers: Chapter 1 ($35.2 million), and Night Swim ($32.5 million). Since its premiere in early October 2024, Terrifier 3 has become an unexpected hit, not only astounding audiences with its horrifying gore, but breaking some serious box office records. Terrifier 3 is the third installment in the Terrifier franchise, which follows the disturbing escapades of Art the Clown. The movie comes eight years after the release of the very first Terrifier movie, which also rose to surprising heights after gaining popularity on streaming services. Now, the Terrifier movies have made a definite name for itself in the horror genre, and Terrifier 3 is the main reason.
Terrifier 3 has broken an astonishing number of records since its release on October 11. Terrifier 3 has not only surpassed the heights of its predecessors, but it has also proven its worth among other unrated horror movies and some of the biggest movies of the year. In this way, the future looks bright for the Terrifier franchise.

Indie cinema has two new bloodsoaked champions, and their names are Damien Leone and Art the Clown.
This weekend, the Christmas-themed horror threequel “Terrifier 3,” beat out the strong third weekend of Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” and the historically poor second weekend of Warner Bros.’ “Joker: Folie a Deux” to take the No. 1 spot at the box office with an $18.3 million opening weekend from 2,516 theaters.

The Speak No Evil remake has become Blumhouse's highest-grossing movie of the year after passing a new box office milestone. Directed by James Watkins, the horror film serves as a remake of Christian Tafdrup's 2022 Danish film of the same name, with a story that follows a family spending a weekend in another family's vacation home only to find that their hosts have sinister intentions. The Speak No Evil reviews have been generally positive thus far and the film got off to a strong start at the box office last month.
Collider now reveals that Speak No Evil has surpassed Night Swim's (2024) $54 million gross at the worldwide box office to become Blumhouse's highest-grossing release of the year. The remake's worldwide total now stands at an impressive $59 million, comprising $29.4 million domestic and $29.5 million from overseas territories.

Reports from early screenings claim the opening scene was so disturbing that viewers walked out and some even became ill. However, many believe this could be a marketing strategy to build hype, especially after recent horror films have failed to meet expectations.

One of the highest-reviewed DreamWorks animated films of all-time is making a major name for itself at the box office in a time when major flops are everywhere. The Wild Robot, which currently sits at nearly flawless scores of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audiences, finished its opening weekend with $53 million worldwide including $35 million domestically and $18 million from foreign marks is already less than $2 million away from passing Night Swim, the Wyatt Russell-led supernatural horror film which premiered in theaters earlier this year. After passing Night Swim, The Wild Robot will have only a few million more until it zooms past Speak No Evil, James McAvoys horror remake which currently sits at a $57 million worldwide box office total, including $28 million domestically and $29 million internationally.
