Comedy of errors & terrors

I recently watched Jathi Rathnalu, good heavens what a nice movie. I was reminded of Chousar Firangi which I had seen last year during the 21 days lockdown. I am only writing this because of the low rating, and I was surprised with zero reviews and less votes for this movie.

Demented might be best appropriate word for this Absurd comedy. The film starts strong with this interesting mix of personalities and odd setting, but it spirals into something dark and sinister as it progresses as all the boxes of independent film are checked off here. Throughout the film the lavish use of dark tone makes the film such a wonder to watch as it resonates with the characters who are trapped in the dullness and banality of the town. It gives a handwriting feel of Sebastian Schipper, Richard Linklater, & Shane Meadows, a bit like Gregg Araki, Abdellatif Kechiche and Babis Makridis. In this journey punctuated by unusual events, around two home alone friends who plan to make the most of the night. It includes heading out into streets and bars with the loose purpose of having sex. The numerous breakdowns punctuated by disputes and mishaps, the search for a place to do so leads to doomed failures. What starts as a whimsical comedy comes across as extremely rooted in the local reality in a strange way when the youngsters are dragged into a dark world provoking new troubles.

Not only is it very funny movie but it has a social commentary, and it simply lingers in the silence long past its final credits. I don't understand why the public and the critic didn't celebrate this indie gem.

A social tragicomedy that blows ur brains, and still makes you think!!

The movie is a master class dark comedy that satirically portrays the social vices among people, it's ideals and the brazen spirit of a canonical yet advancing town.

Being born and raised in Jabalpur myself, I can totally relate with the struggles and triumphs of the characters, their credence and concepts in these twisting, (socially and morally) galvanising times.
