Supergirl has flown across our screens for decades, donning the cape with courage, hope, and some serious Kryptonian girl power. While Superman has often stolen the spotlight, Kara Zor-El—his equally super cousin—has carved out a fierce legacy of her own. From big-screen debuts to long-running TV sagas, Supergirl has been portrayed by a variety of talented actresses, each bringing something unique to the character.
Whether it’s a hopeful farm girl learning to control her powers or a hardened warrior ready to face apocalyptic threats, every version of Supergirl has reflected the era and universe she belonged to. Her journey through live-action has taken fans from the cult classic 1984 Supergirl movie to the CW’s Arrowverse hit series, to DC’s multiversal chaos in The Flash (2023).

James Gunn has revealed exactly how the upcoming Supergirlmovie is going to use Jason Momoa's character of Lobo. The actor has already been confirmed to be making a cameo appearance as the fan-favorite alien bounty hunter, after previously playing Aquaman in the Dceu.
Speaking on the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast, Gunn talked about Momoa's casting and how the character of Lobo will impact Supergirl's story. "The comic is very much a bunch of little stories," he said. "We needed to create one throughline, one three-act story, so Lobo helps us to do that." Supergirl is scheduled to be released as part of the Dcu's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters on June 26, 2026.
Gunn went into further detail about using Tom King's original ideas for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and using them to push the movie forward. "Tom, he's one of the guys I trust, that we talk about possible things.

Warner Bros. has set the release of Locksmith Animation’s upcoming “The Lunar Chronicles,” an animated adaptation of Marissa Meyer’s hit young adult novels, for Nov. 3, 2028.
Released between 2012 and 2015, “The Lunar Chronicles” is set in a sci-fi future and features an overarching narrative loosely inspired by fairy tales such as “Cinderella,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Snow White.” Noëlle Raffaele (“DC Super Hero Girls”) will direct from a screenplay by Lindsey Ferrentino, Kalen Egan and Travis Sentell.
“It takes a team of true visionaries to bring a world as rich and daring as ‘The Lunar Chronicles’ to life. This is the kind of story that feels like it was waiting for just the right moment—and the right people—to be told. DC appears to be going all in on Green Lanternas a new animated series, My Adventures with Green Lantern, was recently announced. After 2011's box office disaster Green Lantern, it seemed like Warner Bros. and DC Comics tried to downplay the various characters' importance, including omitting them from the Justice League roster in the Dceu. The 2020s look very Green Lantern-centric as Nathan Fillion will play Guy Gardner in Superman, with Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler set to play John Stewart and Hal Jordan incarnations of the Green Lantern in the Max series Lanterns. Now an animated version of the Green Lantern Jessica Cruz is on the way, but it will be connected to another popular Superman project outside of the Dcu.

When people think of superhero shows, they often think of the DC Animated Universe, the CW's Arrowverse, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, or X-Men: The Animated Series. While those franchises helped establish many superhero icons, there are plenty of superhero shows that the average person doesn’t know exist. A quick cancelation is often one of the biggest reasons, but sometimes it simply comes down to people not being familiar with the IP.
Sticking to only Batman and Spider-Man is a sure way to overlook a wealth of great content. Even within popular franchises, there are series that many people don’t know exist. With over ten Spider-Man shows alone, there are bound to be quality superhero series that have been forgotten or never discovered.
Related10 Superhero Shows That Deserve Comic Book Continuations
Fan-favorite superhero shows like Spectacular Spider-Man and Legends of Tomorrow could easily continue in the comics, much like Smallville and Buffy.

DC Super Hero Girls portrays the most extreme contrast between Bruce Wayne and Batman for comedic effect. The show uses an over-the-top, vapid Bruce Wayne to effectively conceal Batman's true identity. The exaggerated differences in voice and persona between Bruce Wayne and Batman add humor while maintaining secrecy.
One particular DC animated show has possibly the most convincing way to keep Batman's identity secret, and it's one that many would never have guessed. DC Super Hero Girls was a two-season animated series that aired from March 2019 until October 2021. Similar to Teen Titans Go!, the DC animated show focused on capturing a younger audience, featuring teenage versions of iconic DC heroines including, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Zatanna, Green Lantern, and Bumblebee.
A key aspect of Bruce Wayne is how he plays up the billionaire playboy persona to help mask his secret identity as Batman. DC Super Hero Girls goes the extra length to portray this idea,...

Superman is the platonic ideal of a superhero. He's got a great costume, all the best powers, and has been in the public eye for decades. He is easily the most powerful superhero of his universe, and has a sprawling history. In addition to defending his home city of Metropolis, Superman has joined countless super-teams. He's been a critical member of the Justice Society, the Justice League, the Authority, and the Legion of Superheroes. His popularity has ensured that Superman has been adapted to television many times.
While lots of these versions of Superman are good, some are better than others. What makes a good Superman can be fluid, and sometimes depends on the concept of the show. However, a good adaptation of Superman will really highlight all sides of the character. He should explore what it means to be Clark Kent and Superman. He should also be kindhearted and...

Warner Bros. turned down the opportunity to make an animated crossover movie between Mortal Kombat and DC Universe despite the success of the video game. One of the most family-friendly takes on the DC Universe came about in the 2010s, with DC Super Hero Girls reimagining various superheroes and villains in a unique way. Aimed primarily at young girls, the franchise manifested in animated shows, toys and even video games. Sadly, one such animated series is now missing-in-action, and it highlights a key failure in not keeping the brand around.
The recent digital content purges of online streaming services has seen DC Super Hero Girls become unavailable to watch or purchase. This is definitely disappointing for fans and families, as they can now only watch it through physical media. The lack of a new incarnation of the series also displays a major void that DC and Warner Bros. Discovery should aim to fill.

Batgirl tends to gets the short end of the Bat Stick. Comics-wise, one of her most famous story arcs is ... not particularly fun. Outside of "DC Super Hero Girls," she's rarely front and center in the world of DC animation. Well, except for adaptations of the aforementioned (in)famous story arc which is, again, not particularly fun. Lately, she's even gotten a raw deal in live-action. The character was all set to be portrayed by Leslie Grace ("In the Heights") in a film directed by "Bad Boys for Life" and "Ms. Marvel" veterans Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, only for Warner Bros. Discovery to brutally scrap the whole thing in the middle of post-production as a reported tax write-off. All this is to say, Batgirl deserves better. She deserves someone who cares for her story.

Since the recent release of Teen Titans Go! and DC Super Hero Girls, fans have been yearning for the Teen Titans that aired long before Teen Titans Go did. After all, the subject matter tended to be more serious, the characters more developed, and the action far grander.
Yet, it was the humor that caught the attention of most fans. Fans on Ranker have slowly been voting to determine which insults the heroes slung at each other were the best, especially given how often shots were fired. While not every insult hit its mark, they were certainly great.
Note: Ranker lists are live and continue to accrue votes, so some rankings may have changed after this publishing.

A new episode of the Marvel Studios animated series “Marvel’s What If…?” has hit Disney+, and with it come questions as to who’s voicing which characters. The show marks Marvel Studios’ first-ever animated series and finds Jeffrey Wright’s The Watcher character narrating various scenarios in the multiverse of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that play out in ways that are different than we’ve seen before. The show’s first episode considered what would happen if Peggy Carter was injected with super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, offering an alternate take on the events of Marvel’s 2011 film “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
But as was revealed in that episode, not every MCU actor has returned for “What If?” to voice their animated counterpart. Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson and the late Chadwick Boseman all appeared in previous episodes of the Disney+ original series, whereas Chris Evans,...

The Flintstones could be returning to the small screen!
Fox Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, and Elizabeth Banks have joined forces to develop Bedrock, a primetime animated adult comedy series continuing the story of everyone’s favorite modern Stone Age family, the Flintstones.
The pilot script will be penned by Lindsay Kerns, with Banks voicing the character of Pebbles Flintstone, in addition to her role as a producer.
The sequel series catches up with the Flintstone family two decades after the original, with Fred on the brink of retirement and 20-something Pebbles embarking on her own career.
As the Stone Age gives way to a shiny and enlightened new Bronze Age, the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club.

It’s been quite a while since Nintendo has hosted a substantial Direct presentation that focuses on trailers and news for the biggest upcoming Switch games. In fact, this February 17th showcase was the Nintendo Direct of its kind since September 2019.
Of course, the long gap between such presentations is understandable given that the Covid-19 pandemic delayed production schedules across the industry and impacted everyone’s ability to share substantial updates about their upcoming releases. As a result, 2020 Nintendo Direct presentations were highlighted by a celebration of Super Mario‘s 35th anniversary, indie showcases, and various Super Smash Bros. updates. At least Switch owners had Animal Crossing to keep them occupied.
Even still, the long wait for another Nintendo Direct presentation has sent the always wild speculation that comes with these showcases into overdrive. Before the show started, fans were already resurrecting franchises such as Star Fox and F-Zero in...

If Doom Patrol star Diane Guerrero gets her way, the next DC role she'll get to play will be as the Jessica Cruz version of Green Lantern. Also known for her roles on Orange Is the New Black and Jane the Virgin, Guerrero has made a name for herself with DC fans by starring as Crazy Jane on the DC Universe series Doom Patrol. Recently tweeting from the official Doom Patrol Twitter account, Guerrero was directly asked which other DC character she might want to portray next.
"Jessica Cruz, Green Lantern! That's my next DC character, just to put it out there," Guerrero says in the tweet. It should be noted that Guerrero has previously voiced Jessica Cruz in the animated movie Justice League vs. the Fatal Five, which was released directly to home video last year. The movie was a hit with critics upon its release, scoring an impressive 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although most of the fanfare has surrounded the Snyder Cut of Justice League following its transition from the subject of a long-running fan campaign to one of the most hotly-anticipated comic book movies in recent memory, Warner Bros.’ DC-related content was always designed to be one of the major selling points of HBO Max.
While the complicated rights issues mean that it could be a while before the streaming service manages to gather them all under the one roof, there are still a huge amount of comic book properties available for subscribers, with more to come in the future thanks to the huge investment being made in the likes of J.J. Abrams’ Justice League Dark and the James Wan-produced Aquaman animated miniseries.

If there’s one thing DC loves, it’s reboots. The comics cycle through their continuity in one form or another every decade or so, the movies…well…that’s a whole thing, too. So of course now it’s time for the DC animated movies to get a fresh start. And this time, they’re doing it with the hero who should pretty much always be the center of these things: Superman.
Since 2014, there have been 20 DC Universe Animated Original Movies, most of which existed in a shared continuity that began with Justice League: War and culminated in this year’s Justice League Dark: Apokalips War. With that story arc now complete, Superman: Man of Tomorrow will set up a new continuity for future movies. Butch Lukic is the new Supervising Producer for these DC movies, with Chris Palmer directing Man of Tomorrow.
