Some might know him best as the adorable dad in Love, Actually, but to many, Liam Neeson is a bona fide action star. The Irish actor made a name for himself in the genre with the Taken series, and Neeson has since used his particular set of skills to thrill and entertain audiences with dozens of action thrillers. In his new film, The Naked Gun, Neeson blends action with surreal comedy to great effect. But, the action star has revealed that he could lean more towards the latter genre, and that his action days might be behind him.
Liam Neeson recently spoke to Variety about The Naked Gun and his future in the action genre. Despite being one of the most recognizable action stars still working today, Neeson's tenure in the genre may be coming to an end. "The first Taken was 18 years ago, I was 54," the actor said of...

Liam Neeson bluntly addresses his future in the action genre, citing his age as a concern. Although he rose to prominence with his Oscar-nominated performance in Schindler's List (1993) and went on to play Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), it was the Taken movies that established Neeson as an action star, starting in 2008.
Since then, Neeson has starred in a litany of action movies, including The A-Team, Clash of the Titans (both 2010), The Grey (2011), A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014), and Cold Pursuit (2019). Within the genre, Neeson is known for his four collaborations with director Jaume Collet-Serra on Unknown (2011), Non-Stop (2014), Run All Night (2015), and The Commuter (2018).
However, his time as an action star may be coming to an end. During a recent interview with Variety, Neeson bluntly addressed his future in the genre, reflecting on how long it's been since Taken launched his action career, acknowledging...

Imagine if there was a spin-off to The Last of Us that starred Liam Neeson as a retired bioterror operative who teams up with a couple of young kids to stop a zombie outbreak. Imagine even further if that spin-off was a horror comedy thriller filled with over-the-top gore, and you have yourself Cold Storage, the new flick by director Jonny Campbell that was written by the same person who's penned such hits as Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, and Spider-Man.
Thankfully, you don't have to imagine it any longer, as the first trailer for Cold Storage just dropped (seen below), and if it's any indication of what the actual movie will be like, we're in for a real treat when it hits theaters next year. Seriously, this movie has everything from exploding heads and a military cover-up, to elevator-riding deer and infected felines. What's not to love?

Exclusive: Rabbits Black, one of the key financiers of troubled indie movie Lone Wolf, has gone separate ways from company partner Sean Krajewski.
The company confirmed to Deadline that Krajewski is “no longer associated with Rabbits Black,” but declined to comment on the reason for the exec’s recent departure, which comes at a time when project Lone Wolf, which Krajewski was closely involved in putting together, is under the microscope due to its financing falling apart. As we have reported, the project has been in limbo for months due to funding issues. Star Bryan Cranston told us last week that he won’t return to filming until all cast and crew are paid outstanding wages.
Rabbits Black has told us multiple times that it met all of its contractual financial obligations related to Lone Wolf, and the company is understood to be part of the ongoing effort to get the project finished.

Actor Zachary Levi, the star of Harold and the Purple Crayon and Shazam!, has garnered significant attention for his political opinions.
In a new interview, Levi revealed that his outspoken right-wing ideologies have led to the loss of multiple professional relationships within the industry. His reputation in the business was also harmed by his criticism of SAG-AFTRA’s strike.
Extremely vocal about his anti-vaccine beliefs, Levi was a longtime supporter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who endorsed Donald Trump in the 2024 electoral campaign, with Levi following suit.
Despite the controversy, his career has seemingly not faltered, and he has several projects in production, including the action film Hotel Tehran and a recent starring role in The Unbreakable Boy, a faith-based movie.
In a recent profile with Variety, he shared, “I know that there are people who would prefer not to work with me now because of my opinions. My team has let me know.

Liam Neeson‘s late-career transition to action thriller leading man may reach its peak this year, with five films of that ilk in post-production right now, including a sequel to 2021’s “The Ice Road.” But before that, or “Cold Storage,” or Hotel Tehran,” or “4 Kids Walk Into A Bank,” or “The Mongoose” (still filming), comes “The Naked Gun,” which isn’t an action thriller, per se, but in an adjacent tonal register perfect for this stage of Neeson’s thespian life.

The Unbreakable Boy is an adaptation of a book based on a true story about a family struggling with their eldest son's combination of autism and a rare brittle bone disease. It takes a somewhat humorous approach to the proceedings, allowing the titular boy, Austin (Jacob Laval), to narrate events from his own perspective. The movie hits so many familiar notes, however, that the fact that it is a true story almost seems less believable considering we've seen so many similarly structured movies.
The Unbreakable Boy opens with the typical record scratch, "You're probably wondering how I got here" device, which sets the tone for the rest of the film and its paint-by-numbers plot. We begin with Austin's dad, Scott (Zachary Levi), tying one off at a New Year's Eve party and drunkenly driving Austin and his younger brother Logan (Gavin Warren) home, barely staying on the road.

Among the other projects on his upcoming slate is another shift in tone for him, the thriller Hotel Tehran. He will star alongside Liam Neeson, who Levi refers to as "an icon... a legend." The script comes from Guy Moshe based on an idea by Bazzel Baz, a former CIA Intelligence Special Operations Group Officer. Levi was clear about how there are aspects of Neeson's aura that are larger than life, but the man himself is much more:
"He definitely has that aspect that we've all come to know and love in his character work, right? Like that steeliness, you know, "I'll find you," that whole 'Taken' type of character, but he's a sweetheart of a guy. Like, he...

Action icon Liam Neeson is headed to Max...but he doesn’t remember that he’s an action icon. The Taken star leads 2011’s Unknown, which finds the acclaimed actor taking the lead as a man who, after waking up from a coma, doesn’t remember who he is. But, even stranger, no one else remembers him either. And another man is claiming to be who he thinks he is. While that may have made the movie sound a little confusing, it’s really not, with the movie allowing Neeson to leap from a frightened everyman to the grizzled action star we’ve all come to know and love.

Liam Neeson made a name for himself as an action star quite late in his career, and it seems that he is almost ready to close the book on that part of his life in the near future. Having delivered audience-pleasing performances in movies such as Taken, The Ice Road, and Cold Pursuit, fans should make the most of his latest movie, Absolution, as it could be one of his last action roles.

Liam Neeson’s beloved run as an action movie star may be coming to an end next year. The Oscar nominee spoke to People magazine and teased his retirement from the genre that reignited the back half of his acting career. Neeson’s role in 2008’s “Taken” transformed him into an action icon, and he’s never stopped kicking butt on screen in the 16 years since. Even well into his 70s, Neeson continues to perform his own fight scenes with some help from longtime stunt collaborator Mark Vanselow.
“I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage,” Neeson told the publication. “You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me.”
While Neeson has not yet set a specific date for his last action movie role, he did say that it will likely be in 2025, adding: “Maybe the end of next year.

Liam Neeson has indicated that he intends to step away from action movies in the near future. Liam Neeson has to be one of the busiest guys in the business. Next week sees the release of his crime drama, Absolution, in which he plays an aging mobster looking to make amends with his family before his time is up. Next summer, he’s got his remake of The Naked Gun coming out – which should (hopefully) allow him to branch out into comedy. But he’s also got a whole bunch of other action flicks set for release in 2025, including The Ice Road 2, Cold Storage, Hotel Tehran, and even more in the works. However, given that he recently turned seventy-two, Neeson is giving serious thought to slowing down, with him recently saying in an interview that he’s calling it quits pretty soon, stating, “Maybe the end of next year. I think that’s it.”
Now, it has to be said that this isn’t the first time Neeson has toyed with retirement.
