Based in Singapore, Beach House’s credits include the Emmy-nominated Netflix lifestyle series Mind Your Manners and the Buzzies-winning documentary series for Amazon Prime & Curiosity, Evolve.

Beach House was previously owned by Canada’s Blue Ant Media. Financial terms of the Fremantle deal were not disclosed.

Fremantle said today that the acquisition further underlines its strategic growth plans to invest in and partner with premium production companies and work with exceptional creative talent.

Founded in 2005 by producers Donovan Chan and Jocelyn Little, Beach House Pictures specializes in creating and co-financing original IP across non-scripted, scripted, entertainment and brand-funded programming for all major regional and international platforms.

Global production giant Fremantle has taken a majority stake in Singapore-based Beach House Pictures (Bhp), one of Asia’s top independent production outfits, whose slate includes the Emmy-nominated Netflix lifestyle series Mind Your Manners and science documentary series Evolve for Amazon Prime and Curiosity in the U.S. As part of the deal, Blue Ant Media has sold its stake in Bhp.

Financial details weren’t disclosed.

The deal, unveiled on Thursday, is the latest in Fremantle’s buying spree that has seen the group, a subsidiary of German media conglomerate Bertelsmann, snatch up leading indies across the drama, film, and non-fiction space worldwide.

Asia-based production firm Beach House Pictures has acquired a majority stake in Tan Si En and Kris Ong’s Singapore-based Momo Film Co.

Tan Si En’s producer credits include 2021 Cannes selection “The Year of the Everlasting Storm,” and Anthony Chen’s Toronto, London and Pingyao title “Wet Season.” Kris Ong, a script consultant at HBO Asia, is also a writer-director whose latest short film “Sunday” had its world premiere at the Palm Springs International Shortfest in 2019. She is also the co-writer on He Shuming’s debut feature film “Ajoomma,” which is currently in production.

Beach House, a Blue Ant Media company, is expanding rapidly, having acquired a majority stake in Japanese producer Vesuvius Pictures and appointed Felix Feng as Gm in China to grow their business there, earlier this year. In October, the company launched Space Lion Studios, a Singapore-based post-production facility.

The Momo deal is intended to boost Beach House’s scripted slate.
