NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 11 Review: A Hero's Tragic Past Is Revealed
Image
The following contains major spoilers from NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 14, "To Have and To Hold," which debuted Monday, March 23 on CBS. It also contains discussion of pregnancy loss.

NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 14, "To Have and To Hold" is one of the best episodes of the season -- even if Leroy Jethro Gibbs is hardly in it. The CBS prequel also been telling the origin stories of all the Nis team members, not just Gibbs, and this time it's Mary Jo Hayes' turn in the spotlight. Actor Tyla Abercrumbie rises to the occasion, showing an emotional side of Mary Jo that viewers rarely get to see as they fall in love with her all over again.

"To Have and to Hold" does have a case to close, involving the disappearance of a Marine wife. But that becomes almost secondary to Mary Jo's personal life, as her estranged husband Marcus files for divorce.

Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 14 “To Have and to Hold.”] NCIS: Origins reveals Mary Jo’s (Tyla Abercrumbie) heartbreak in the March 24 episode. It all stems from Mary Jo’s husband, Marcus (Guy Lockard), sending her divorce papers. Their marriage had been over for years, but they never made it official. They just grew apart, is all she tells Lala (Mariel Molino), who offers to have her sister look over the papers, and Vera (Diany Rodriguez). To Mary Jo’s shock, Marcus is asking for almost half of everything. But that’s all on his lawyer, he insists when she goes to see him; he didn’t ask for anything. NCIS: Origins Star Opens Up About Mary Jo’s Heartbreaking Past, Knows ‘It Is Going to Touch a Lot of Women’
Image
This week on CBS’ NCIS: Origins, viewers got to know a lot more about Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Hayes — both on a professional and a personal level.

Running Nis’ Camp Pendleton office as the “Hsic” (Head Secretary in Charge), Mary Jo was shown to have keenly absorbed over the years how the Special Agents (namely, Mike Franks) think. She has developed a second sense about when a witness or Poi will be brought back in for questioning, and how to keep opposing parties from sharing the same waiting area air. We saw her labor to impart a fraction...

Image
You know how some people say be careful what you wish for? Well, the NCIS: Origins writers apparently have excellent hearing and an interesting sense of humor.

Many of us viewers have been clamoring for more character development, particularly from a high-heel-wearing Nis administrative agent.

It’s doubtful anyone could have expected NCIS: Origins to become the show it has, but the series has made monumental strides toward distinguishing itself from other police procedurals.

(Erik Voake/CBS)

Namely, the show has found a way to balance episodic storytelling with pockets of character arcs that keep each episode fresh and exciting with new drama.

On the surface, it seemed like NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 14 was your run-of-the-mill spotlight episode to flesh out another supporting character, but it was so much more than that.

One Of Deadpool 3's Writers Destroyed Spider-Man's Love Life In The Comics
Image
As movies and TV shows have become the dominant mode of superhero storytelling, some comic writers have crossed mediums with the characters they pen. Allan Heinberg wrote a brief run on "Wonder Woman" and years later wrote the screenplay for the 2017 "Wonder Woman" movie. Brian Michael Bendis, the defining Marvel Comics writer of the 2000s, sat on Marvel Studios' now-disbanded "creative committee." James Gunn, as the co-head of DC Studios, has brought writer Tom King into the fold.

"Deadpool & Wolverine," which brings the 20th Century Fox side of Marvel into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the latest example of this; one of the movie's five credited co-writers is Zeb Wells, who also wrote an episode of "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." For some Marvel Comic fans, however, his name lives in infamy.

Now, Wells' "X-Men" related work is well-regarded. The 18-issue series "Hellions" was like a mutant version of "Suicide Squad...

‘American Song Contest’: Hueston’s ‘Held on Too Long’ wins jury vote, advances to semi-finals [Watch]

Apparently “American Song Contest” saved the best for last, as the 56 jury members voted at the end of the season premiere to advance Hueston, the final performer of the night, to the semi-finals. Thanks to his emotional ballad “Held on Too Long,” the Rhode Island native was able to beat out several other big name singers, including Connecticut’s Michael Bolton (“Beautiful World”). Watch Hueston perform “Held on Too Long” in NBC’s video above.

At the end of the night, 56 industry professionals from each state/territory ranked all 11 performances from best to worst (though these jurists were ineligible to vote for their own state/territory). Hueston ranked the highest, so he received a free pass to the semi-finals. Three other participants will be voted on a by a mix of the audience vote and the jury vote.
