He's great and seems very sincere. The designer acts so phony and her exaggerated facial and hand gestures are hard to watch! She thinks she's funny but she's just "overacting" and detracts from the actual story. Lose the bad actor designer or include less of her!!
The hosts really seem to genuinely care about the stories behind these beautiful old homes and do their best to breathe new life into each one.
The host is fun to watch as he gets excited about all aspects of the renovation. I love the desire to honor the history of the homes while making them livable for a modern family.
I've read multiple complaints about the designer. Actually I think her work is overall good. Although there have been some unfortunate choices (beautiful exterior trim with no visible contrast to the wall color, large neon light of words in bedroom, stark modern black/white painting in otherwise cozy dining room), most of her designs have been attractive and clearly what the homeowners want/in their style.
Happy homeowners should be more important than striving to cater to the varying tastes of viewers. I think the homeowners being pleased consistently will be a strong factor in the shows success, in addition to the likeable host and quality work.
P. S. You hear that some of these shows are fake, with hosts not actually doing the work portrayed. Haha, after watching 3 episodes, I find myself really hoping he is legitimately that involved.

Jonathon, please lose this designer, her color choices are so aweful it makes me not want to watch anymore. She has no taste when it comes to color. Yuck! She also presents herself as the star of the show, but should be kept in the background or better yet lose her, you can do so much better with a designer who can really design a home.
I love Maine Cabin Masters, New Town, and Fixer Upper but the New Kid On The Block 'Farmhouse Fixer' is something special! Jonathan Knight is what makes the show so amazing. He is warm, funny, passionate, and supremely experienced in farmhouse renovation. Obviously, he is renovating farmhouses for those that can afford both the house and the fee. And I don't always agree with removing antique features, but Jonathan and his team do an amazing renovation with TLC on these farmhouses. The interior design I don't always like either, but it's not my farmhouse and the owners seem to love the overall transformation! I hope we se see a second season soon!!! I'm addicted!
