    Another Lucy Worsley gem

Once again I very much enjoyed Lucy Worsley's take on British social history. This is an informative piece of work that filled the gaps in my understanding of the Victorian era. Victoria's vivacity as a young queen was well brought out by an impishly beautiful Abbie Garland and the choices of George Merrick-Cunningham as Prince Albert and Mike Nettleship as Victoria's devoted Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne were good. The analysis by historical experts, curators and archivists set details into context in a most engaging manner. A rewarding evening of TV in two parts. Worth watching!

Victoria & Albert: The Royal Wedding

I wish I was a historian on the Victorian monarchy. I would always be gainfully employed by various television companies as a talking head.

The same old faces A N Wilson, Matthew Sweet show up telling the same old stories about Victoria and Albert. I actually wondered how they kept up their enthusiasm. I reckon it must be the sound of the kerching!

Victoria & Albert: The Royal Wedding should had been subtitled scraping the bottom of the history barrel.

Historian Lucy Worsley reconstructs Queen Victoria's wedding to Prince Albert on 10 February 1840 over a mind numbing 90 minutes. They go through her dress, apparently Victoria made the white wedding dress popular. She talks about who would give Victoria away, the food, the cake (bits of it still comes up on auction) and the people who attended the wedding.

I tried to stay interested but it really was a losing battle. Maybe I have seen too many historical documentaries on Queen Victoria and just felt jaded or doubtful about how accurate it all was.

    Enjoyable & Informative Social History

Another fine job by Lucy Worsley. I had not before realized the significance that this first public Royal Wedding had in establishing Queen Victoria's popularity among, and Prince Albert's acceptance by, the British public.

This absolutely IS my kind of history. We need many more humanly-relatable series like this to ensure that 21st century viewers acquire and retain an interest in their historical past.

One mistake I've noticed in other recent televised reconstructions of Royal weddings is to show the congregation applauding upon the conclusion of the marriage vows. This surely would never have happened at Queen Victoria's very formal wedding ceremony, nor even at Queen Elizabeth II's.

    re-imagining

A beautiful portrait of a great , for so many reasons, social event. The care for details, the exploration of context and personalities, the trip across portraits of personalities, reactions, attittudes, from kitchen to the church , wardrobe , emotion and incidents creates the fair - inspired state to viewer.

Again, Lucy Worsley is the perfect guide in a historical adventure , giving not only informations but proposing an interesting perspective about a lost world becoming, in splendid way, alive front to us.
