While remakes in general don’t bother me, I have to admit I didn’t think remaking Street Trash was a good idea. The original is the kind of weird, offbeat film it’s almost impossible to sit down and deliberately write, it’s the kind of weirdness that has to come organically, something any number of deliberate attempts at creating cult films have proven.
I did find it encouraging that Ryan Kruger had been picked to direct it. If anyone could pull it off the maker of Fried Barry, a seriously Wtf comedy about a junkie’s encounter with aliens and its aftermath, stood a good chance of being the one to do it. I also...

It may not seem like the most obvious choice for a Christmas movie – a brutal action film with a protagonist traumatized by a failed mission in the jungle – but Triggered (Topakk) is one of the ten films selected for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (Mmff) and is opening across the Philippines on December 25.
Starring Arjo Atayde and Julia Montes, the Tagalog-language film had its world premiere at Locarno film festival in 2023 and has been touring other festivals over the past year. Atayde plays a former special forces operative, now working as a security guard and struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (Ptsd), who tries to save a woman being pursued by corrupt police and a vicious drugs cartel.
“Filipino families tend to go out together over the holidays, but I guess this is one for the dads and their sons, while the mums and daughters go to watch a romcom,...

Comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan aimed at targets like Covid vaccines and trans people during his newest comedy special.
Rogan’s latest, named “Burn the Boats,” debuted live on Netflix on Saturday night and amplified some of the controversial views he has discussed on his podcast before. Yet he was also self-deprecating about his perceived impact on culture.
“That might be misinformation,” he said, as the tag of a joke early on. “Don’t say you heard it from me, because I am known for that shit.”
Rogan discussed his skepticism of Covid vaccines early in the special.
“Covid was just so strange,” he said. “And we lost a lot of people during Covid, and most of them are still alive. There’s a lot of people that I don’t fuck with anymore. Before Covid, I would have told you that vaccines are the most important invention in human history.

Jhené Aiko had worked out the kinks — likely unnoticeable to most fans — of The Magic Hour, her first tour in seven years and her first-ever arena run, by the time she sold out Barclays Center in Brooklyn this month. (In fact, all the dates on her 13-stop headlining trek have sold out.) Aiko has been a staple among R&b’s moodiest, freakiest, and wanted-to-fight-you-but-decided-to-meditate-instead listeners since her 2011 debut mixtape, Sailing Soul(s). She staked her claim to modern R&B while being a young mother to now-15-year-old Namiko,...

In a recent development, Donald Trump‘s oldest son Donald Trump Jr. has voiced his apprehensions about the prospect of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) serving as his father’s running mate in the upcoming election.
Trump Jr. expressed these concerns in his video podcast Triggered and stated that Rubio’s establishment ties could potentially lead to a speedy impeachment of the elder Trump.
In a live Q&a session, a submitted question claimed that “Rubio guarantees another impeachment,” to which Trump Jr. readily agreed. He argued that if Rubio were to become the vice president, the impeachment process could be initiated immediately after the inauguration.
“By the time my father’s hand moves off in the swearing-in process,” he said. “12 p.m. January 20, the second it goes off, impeachment!”
Trump Jr. further emphasized the importance of having someone from outside the establishment to provide additional protection against the political establishment...

For any television series reaching its 100th episode, looking back is a given, but there aren’t many shows with a 35-year history like ABC’s “The Conners,” the sitcom following the blue-collar family with an affinity for getting knocked down by life’s struggles while making us laugh along the way. “It’s just lucky, I guess,” says John Goodman, who plays patriarch Dan Conner. “Now all of a sudden, it’s 100 episodes. I can’t believe how fast the time went by, but I guess that’s just because I’m getting old.”

When the Trash Man Knocks is a bit of a rarity. While there are the occasional films like Derelicts and Amityville Thanksgiving, there really aren’t that many films set on the busiest time for travel and family gatherings in the US. Writer/director/star Christopher Wesley Moore hopes to use it to leave his mark on the holiday horror calendar with a mix of psychological horror and bloody slasher stylings.
In 1993 young Crispin Callaway (Luke Mayronne; Triggered) hacked up his father and the student he was having an affair with and stuffed their remains into trash bags. Ten years later, just before he was transferred to a maximum security facility, he escaped. He left a dozen dead bodies in his wake and then seemingly vanished.

Today is the day and for three days and four nights the Mayhem crowd will fill the Broadway Nottingham and experience some of the best international genre cinema currently on the festival circuit. Opening night has a South East Asian flavor, starting with Raging Grace, the story of an undocumented Filipina housekeeper and her daughter staying in a home of a family with dark secrets. The evening concludes with the Filipino explosive action flick, Topakk (Triggered), the story of a former soldier who protects a young woman from a corrupt police death squad. Other titles...

Not all bottle episodes are bad, but the worst examples of this television tradition have earned their poor reputations. Historically, bottle episodes were a TV staple wherein writers came up with a story limited to a few established locations and cast members. A cost-saving practicality, bottle episodes became almost as infamous as clip shows among television aficionados. Theoretically, their budgetary constraints could have sparked creativity in the writer’s room. However, more often than not, bottle episodes were viewed as filler. That's changed in recent decades.
Nowadays, bottle episodes are a beloved institution and are often among a show's most ambitious installments. Bojack Horseman season 5, episode 6, “Free Churro,” is set entirely in one room and features what is arguably the best performance of Will Arnett’s career. Similarly, while The Conners usually follows the fun family sitcom trend, season 4, episode 14, “Triggered,” delivers a dramatic outing that doesn't venture outside the titular family's house.

“Encanto” star John Leguizamo has signed on to executive produce short film “Triggered” from Tara Westwood.
“Triggered,” which stars Westwood, Isiah Whitlock Jr. (“Da 5 Bloods”), Caitlin Mehner (“Dopesick”) and Robert John Burke (“Law & Order Special Victim’s Unit”), deals with themes of gun violence.
“’Triggered’ is exceptional in that it doesn’t preach and never hits you over the head with a message – but I don’t know how anyone can watch it and not agree that we need to do things differently,” said Leguizamo. “Most Americans, even NRA members, already support basic changes such as improved background checks and this is a conversation that we must have. Children of Sin is the new film from writer/director/actor Christopher Wesley Moore and like his previous films Blessed Are the Children, Stranger Among the Living, and Triggered, (not to be confused with the South African film Triggered) it’s a horror film with a strong dose of religious and social commentary. His previous films have managed to walk the line between delivering scares and delivering their message, can he keep that steak going here?
Tammy (Keni Bounds; Blessed Are the Children) is marrying Robbie. This doesn’t sit well with her children Emma and Jackson (Lewis Hines; Mimi: Blood Thicker Than Water). Maybe because he’s a religious zealot who demands total obedience and finds sin in everyone but himself. And he doesn’t consider making advances on his own stepdaughter as sinful.

The Conners are getting serious in the latest episode titled, “Triggered,” as the TV family faces the realities of gun violence when it arrives in their own neighborhood. Helming the pivotal installment is star Lecy Goranson, who penned the script about the family being put on lockdown in their home when a shooting occurs nearby. “I actually put writing this episode in my contract,” Goranson reveals. The actress, who plays eldest daughter Becky Conner, was inspired to broach the topic on ABC’s hit sitcom after a chance encounter in Chicago. (Credit: ABC/Eric McCandless) Goranson explains that while sitting down to see a musical in Chicago, she met a high school teacher from Elgin in the audience, the town that Lanford is based on. “She said, ‘If you want to write about something in the show, you should write about gun violence because it’s really rampant.'” It...

Exclusive: Peacock is developing Triggered, a single-camera comedy from the 9Jkl team of writer-producer Dana Klein, Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.
Written by Klein, in Triggered, frustrated by her inefficacy, a rule-following therapist starts to break the rules of her profession, and, eventually, the law, and soon becomes a vigilante therapist who helps people… using whatever means necessary.
Klein executive produces with Trilling of TrillTV and Kaplan of Kapital. The series is a co-production between Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and CBS Studios.
Triggered stems from the producer partnership former longtime CBS head of comedy Trilling and her TrillTV have with Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. The first project under that partnership to go to series, multi-camera CBS comedy 9Jkl, was co-created, executive produced and showrun by Klein.
This is Klein’s second project with TrillTV and Kapital currently in development. She is...

Hopefully March will bring respite from crippling snow storms and frigid temperatures for much of the globe. And if it doesn’t? Well, Hulu’s got some new streaming options at least!
Hulu’s list of new releases for March 2021 are relatively slight on Hulu originals. Thankfully, one beloved original of note is coming back this month. Solar Opposites will premiere all episodes of its second season on March 26. This sci-fi animated comedy from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is a breath of fresh alien air.
On the movie side of things, Hulu is premiering Boss Level on March 5. This actioner will star the delightful Frank Grillo and the decidedly less delightful Mel Gibson. Speaking of delightful though, the documentary Kid 90 will arrive on March 12. This comes from Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye and features hours of footage she shot in the ’90s that will depict what...

As if sensing that the election would provide enough nail-biting excitement to last Americans for days, distributors have largely backed off the first weekend in November.
Focus Features is releasing a solid Kevin Costner-Diane Lane thriller with serious Red State appeal in “Let Him Go,” for those with access to theaters, and there are a number of backlogged festival movies picking this weekend to open: the best of them is “Proxima,” featuring Eva Green as a French astronaut preparing to leave her son behind for her first trip to space, though Toronto 2019 premiere “Jungleland” and Sundance oddity “Koko-di Koko-da” are solid options as well.
Genre fans have a few options, ranging from “Triggered” (a “Battle Royale”-esque survival game in which old friends must kill one another to survive) to “The Informer,” a movie that opened in theaters abroad way back in 2019, but brings some excitement to a tame frame.

Many teenagers and young adults in modern culture are embracing the ideals that are driving the political correctness that’s changing the way humanity as a whole is interacting with each other. That’s certainly the case for the sensitive and socially conscious millennials who make up the ensemble protagonist group in the upcoming horror movie, ‘Triggered.’ […]

You have to say one thing about the hapless characters in the new horror film directed by Alastair Orr (House on Willow Street, Indigenous): They at least know exactly what kind of movie they’re in. Turning homicidally on each other in the woods with bombs attached to their chests, they manage to throw in joking references to the Saw movies and John Wick, among other things. The problem is that these occasionally clever throwaway gags in Triggered mostly remind you of far better viewing experiences.

What should be a relaxing camping trip in the woods turns into a fight for survival for nine friends when they wake up with countdown bombs strapped to their chests—and cruel rules to keep them from blowing up—in the new movie Triggered. Ahead of the horror thriller's November 6th digital and VOD release from Samuel Goldwyn Films, we caught up with Triggered director/editor/executive producer Alastair Orr to discuss the movie's inception, filming mostly at night, making the vest bombs as believable as possible, and working with a dedicated cast and crew to create their explosive film.
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, Alastair, and congratulations on your new movie Triggered! When did you first read the screenplay by David D. Jones, and what made you want to bring this story to life on screen?
Alastair Orr: Thank you for checking out Triggered!

Jim Carrey came back to Saturday Night Live for the last episode before the presidential election, reprising his impression of Joe Biden in the anti-Trump and Halloween-themed cold open.
Sitting next to “decorations from Melania’s Christmas display” — that were actually Halloween decorations — and a blue moon, Carrey’s Biden said, “For some Trump voters, it’s the only time they’ll wear a mask” of the holiday.
He said that he was going to read a scary story and picked up a copy of Donal Trump Jr.’s book Triggered. He then read an Edgar Allan Poe spoof ...

Friendships are put to the test when nine former classmates on a reunion camping trip awake to find they’re locked into explosive vests with countdown timers on them. The only way to get more time? Kill each other…
Sometimes it’s unfortunate for filmmakers that the cast they put together can be, ultimately, unlikeable in the eyes of the audience. However in some cases, especially in horror films, having an unlikeable cast actually adds an extra dimension to your movie. Case in point, Triggered.
Directed by Alastair Orr, Triggered is the kind of film where instead of cheering on one of the characters to live, to survive in the face of adversity, to be victorious without stooping to the lows of killing, you essentially look...

A slice of high concept horror with nicely drawn characters, Triggered is the latest work by Alastair Orr, the man behind 2016 genre hit From A House On Willow Street. It makes use of some familiar tropes but draws them together into a story that stands up well in its own right, with tight pacing and explosive energy.
It begins with that old genre staple, a weekend trip to the woods, where a group of young people get together - some of them meeting for the first time since high school - and sit around a campfire to talk and drink. Exactly how they all came to be invited on this trip is a bit of a mystery, however, as they weren't all close friends. They don't have long in which to start figuring it out before gas starts drifting around their camp and they all pass out - only to.
