The Sopranos vet has been tapped for a series-regular role in The White Lotus‘ upcoming second season, according to our sister site Deadline. He’ll appear in the sophomore run as Dominic Di Grasso, who is traveling with his son — a recent college graduate — and his elderly father.

Season 1 of The White Lotus focused on a group of vacationers at the swanky titular Hawaiian resort. The new installments will leave Hawaii and take place at a different White Lotus property, though the exact locale has yet to be confirmed. As TVLine exclusively reported in October, Jennifer Coolidge — who earned raves for her Season 1 work as Tanya McQuoid in the HBO series — is also set to come back for Season 2, though the premium cabler did not comment on her return.

In fact, in a poll conducted shortly after The White Lotus‘ first season finale, Coolidge’s Tanya was voted the character that TVLine readers most wanted to see reappear in Season 2, followed by Natasha Rothwell’s Belinda and Alexandra Daddario’s Rachel.

Michael Imperioli, who starred in HBO’s acclaimed “The Sopranos” as Christopher Moltisanti, is preparing to head back to HBO for a new series.

Variety reported that Imperioli is teaming with Alec Berg (“Barry”) to develop a scripted series in which the actor will star. The publication described the project as a “meta blend of fact and fiction loosely based on Imperioli’s experiences as a practicing Buddhist.” A prospective release date and additional casting details were not provided. Though the project’s tone is unclear, Berg’s filmography (including “Barry” and “Silicon Valley”) suggests that the series could have a comedic bent.

The two studios are developing two scripts for two U.S. adaptations for NBC — “The A Ward,” based on Keren Margalit’s “Yellow Peppers” with Arika Mittman, in addition to a remake of Seven Studios’ “Secret Bridesmaids’ Business” with Deirdre Shaw, which is currently titled “Ties That Bind.” They are also producing a spinoff of Keshet’s feature “Save Yourselves!”

It marks the third term for the deal between the NBCU studio and the LA-based production arm of the Israeli media giant.

As part of the deal, the two companies are developing a TV adaptation of sci-fi comedy feature Save Yourselves! The film, which premiered at Sundance last year, comes from writer-directors Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson.

The deal, which is the company’s third with Utv, will see the Peter Traugott-led production arm of Keshet International develop two new dramas for NBC: The A Word and Ties That Bind.

Keshet Studios has renewed its first-look overall deal with Universal Television.

The deal, which is the company’s third with Utv, will see the Peter Traugott-led production arm of Keshet International develop two new dramas for NBC: The A Word and Ties That Bind.

Rachel Kaplan has signed a multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, Variety has learned.

Kaplan, the former head of scripted for Keshet Studios, is also launching her own production company — Absecon Entertainment. Under the deal, she will develop and produce original scripted programming to be produced by Absecon in association with Warner Bros. Television for streaming services and cable, as well as the broadcast networks.

The move brings Kaplan back into the WB fold, as she was previously vice president of drama development at Warner Bros Television earlier in her career.

Rachel Kaplan is heading back to Warner Bros. Television after striking an overall deal with the studio via her new production company.

Kaplan, who has spent the last six years as Head of Scripted for Keshet Studios, has launched Absecon Entertainment, which has signed an exclusive, multi-year deal with the company.

It brings her back to the studio, where she was previously VP, Drama Development, a role that saw her develop or co-develop series including Chuck, Gossip Girl and The O.C.

Under the new deal, she will develop and produce scripted series for streaming services and cable, as well as the broadcast networks.

Paris-based Lincoln TV is set to reunite with the creative team behind “Mirage” on a period series about the turbulent life of Sylvia Kristel, the 1970’s sex symbol and star of the erotic film trilogy “Emmanuelle.”

Titled “Sylvia,” the six-part series will be based on Kristel’s 2006 autobiography “Nue” (“Naked”), in which the late actress chronicles her rise and tragic downfall.

Currently at the script stage, the series is being created and penned by Bénédicte Charles and Olivier Pouponneau, who previously wrote “Mirage” with Franck Philippon. Lincoln TV, the well-established banner founded by veteran producers Christine de Bourbon-Busset and Marc Missonnier, has acquired the audiovisual rights to Kristel’s autobiography from the publishing house Cherche-Midi.

The project is currently being shopped to key French channels and Lincoln TV is aiming to partner up with a Flemish co-producer.

NBC has canceled the family drama “Council of Dads” after one season.

Series star J. August Richards broke the news in an Instagram post on Thursday. “I want to thank @joanrater and @tvphelan for the willingness to give voice and representation to #gayfamilies, #blacklgbt, #qpoc and the worldwide #lgbtq community by telling the story of Oliver, Peter and Tess Post-Richards,” he wrote in the post, also thanking the show’s fans for watching.

NBC’s pandemic-era fall slate boasts 16 returning programs, including Sunday Night Football (which kicks off with Cowboys/Rams on Sept. 13), the top-rated This Is Us and its #OneChicago trifecta.

NBC has finalized decisions on some of its remaining shows, picking up another season of “Manifest” and cancelling “Indebted,” “Bluff City Law” and “Sunnyside,” TheWrap has learned

The network, which has not yet unveiled its fall schedule, has held off on making renewal and cancellation decisions this year beyond the typical May upfronts deadline, with the freshman drama “Council of Dads” still in limbo as its 10-episode season finishes out its run.

The cancellations for “Sunnyside” and “Bluff City Law” come long after both shows were taken off the network’s schedule. “Sunnyside” was moved to digital last fall after a handful of episodes, while “Bluff City” law was passed over for a full-season pickup in November. “Indebted” completed airing its 12-episode season in April.

On June 12 the motion picture academy announced changes to the Oscars, including a return to a guaranteed 10 nominees for Best Picture. In recent years the academy has had a sliding scale between 5 and 10 nominees depending on how the voting shook out. In each of those years there were either eight or nine contenders, which means that one or two more films would’ve been included if there had been a full 10 slots. As protests over police brutality continue across America this week in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin, popular reality shows chronicling — and often lionizing — police activity, like “Cops” and “Live Pd,” have been sent to the slammer. Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector will cease any kind of hunt, at least on NBC, which has canceled the serial-killer-chasing drama after an abbreviated inaugural season.

NBC’s cancelation of Lincoln Rhyme, reported via Variety, was a two-birds-with-one-stone move that also saw the nixing of another freshman offering in the Bradley Whitford-headlined comedy, Perfect Harmony. While no official explanation was given for the cancelations, the move obviously occurs during a time of intrinsic uncertainty with NBC’s 2020-2021 season plans still draped in mystery as productions remain halted in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.
