Reacher

This New Alan Ritchson Action Thriller Captures The Spirit Of Reacher In One Key Way [TIFF 2025]
Image
"Motor City," a violent revenge thriller set in the 1970s, made its North American premiere Thursday night at the Toronto International Film Festival. So far, the movie's biggest claim to fame is its leading man, Alan Ritchson, who's best known for his starring role in the Prime Video series "Reacher." For fans of that series, which is all about watching Ritchson's character beat up bad guys with the ease and confidence we all wish we could have, this new movie of his will be right up your ally.

Making it an even stronger fit for "Reacher" fans is that Ritchson's character here, John Miller, doesn't just keep Reacher's toughness and...

Alan Ritchson & Sylvester Stallone Team Up For Amazon's Navy Seal Movie
Image
Alan Ritchson and Sylvester Stalloneare two of the biggest action heroes of their generations. Stallone is synonymous with redefining the action hero, particularly through his portrayal of Rambo in First Blood (1982) and its various sequels. From the 1980s to the 1990s, Stallone starred in various action films, from Cobra (1986), Tango and Cash (1989), Cliffhanger (1993), Demolition Man (1993), and The Specialist (1994).

Later, in 2010, Stallone created The Expendables franchise, paying homage to his status as an iconic action star. On the other hand, Ritchson's physicality and commanding screen presence have made him a modern-day action star in his own right, best known for playing the titular character in Prime Video's series, Reacher, since 2022.

Before Reacher,...

The film falls under Ritchson’s three-picture acting deal with the studio.

The latest Mike Thornton project reps a reunion for the Range-repped Ritchson and Hughes who recently completed Netflix’s feature sci-fi adventure War Machine.

The film will follow Navy Seal Mike Thornton during the final days of the Vietnam War as he leads a desperate last stand after five men are trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. Outnumbered by an army of 150 soldiers, they fight through relentless enemy fire before making a harrowing retreat into the South China Sea. The Summer I Turned Pretty Regains Prime Video Throne In Battle For Top Spot
Image
A Prime Video juggernaut sporting a 56% Rotten Tomatoes audience score retakes the platform's top streaming spot days after being dethroned. Prime Video shows have gotten more popular in recent years, as the platform is finally finding success in various genres. This includes action shows like Reacher and animated projects like Invincible, making for well-rounded series bolstering the platform.

However, one show, The Summer I Turned Pretty, has also become a hit for the platform. Although The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 has a 56% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it's still been a top spot contender in recent weeks. However, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf recently knocked it off its throne,...

TIFF 50: 10 movies we can’t wait to see at this year’s fest!
Image
It’s the most glorious time of the year! The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is kicking off once again, and for the sixteenth (!) year in a row, I’ll be there on behalf of JoBlo.com. My goal: hit at least twenty films over the festival’s run, which means I’ll be cranking out reviews pretty regularly. But among the countless titles playing this year—TIFF’s fiftieth edition, no less—here are the ten I’m most excited to see:

The Smashing Machine

Could Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson actually be on his way to an Oscar? What might’ve once been a punchline is now a real possibility,...

Olivier Richters Is Playing Zangief In Street Fighter Reboot
Image
The new Street Fighter movie reboot has officially kicked off production in Australia, and the latest cast photos are giving fans their first real look at the new fighters. Standing out immediately is a giant among men: Olivier ‘The Dutch Giant’ Richters. If you thought Zangief was big in the video games, wait until you see the actor in action. At 7’2″ (218 cm), he’s actually much taller than the Russian wrestling legend, and judging by these photos, he’ll tower over pretty much everyone else on set, too. But Richters isn’t just a really big and tall actor, though. He’s a Dutch-born bodybuilder and fitness model who’s...

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf Tops Global Charts On Prime Video
Image
Prime Video has found a string of successes in following the template established by Reacher. The streamer had ventured into action thrillers, with Jack Ryan likely serving as the most prominent example. But it was Reacher, led by breakout star Alan Ritchson, that might have done the most to encourage executives to lean into dramas about heroes with guns.

Reacher has been a smashing success. Its second season, released in late 2023, became Prime Video's most-watched title in mere days. In its wake, subscribers have seen several other action series that have attempted to walk along that path. In the past few months alone, there's been Jensen Ackles' Countdown, Daniel Dae Kim's Butterfly,...

Evil Dead II Co-Writer Scott Spiegel Dead at 67
Image
Evil Dead IIco-writer and fan-favorite filmmaker Scott Spiegel has passed away at 67-years-old.

The news was confirmed via social media by numerous industry insiders close to Spiegel. Spiegel reportedly passed away in late August, with Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell offering a particularly heartfelt statement of condolences. "This is a big personal loss," Campbell wrote. "Scott Spiegel was a huge part of my formative years back in Michigan. From Sunday School to being stock boys together, to Evil Dead II, which Scott co-wrote, I can’t look in the rear view mirror without seeing this unique guy doing cheap gags."

Street Fighter Director Shares Official Cast Photos; Actors Playing Cammy And Zangief Possibly Revealed
Image
Street Fighter director Kitao Sakurai has taken to Instagram to share some official behind-the-scenes images of most of the main cast.

Though the actors are not in-costume as their respective characters here, the photos appear to reveal that Reacher season 3 star Olivier Richters is playing Russian pro-wrestler Zangief.

There's also a possibility - though we're not quite as confident about this one - that Mortal Kombat (2021) actress Mel Jarnson has been cast as Cammy White.

There was speculation that Jarnson might be playing Cammy when she was spotted alongside Orville Peck (Vega) in previous photos, and she is now rocking a very similar blonde hairstyle to the British Intelligence agent.

Jensen Ackles As Batman In Dcu Art: A Perfect Fit For James Gunn's Reboot
Image
Jensen Ackles joins the DC Universe for The Brave and the Bold as Batman through art. As The Batman universe with Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves' Elseworlds property remains separate from DC Studios' continuity, the franchise has yet to cast its new Dark Knight in James Gunn's superhero reboot.

Alan Ritchson as Batman has been one of the popular casting choices for quite some time with audience members, as the reboot for the Caped Crusader remains in development. However, the Reacher star recently stated that he doesn't think the DC gig is in his future, after having had conversations with Gunn.

Alan Ritchson’s Brutal Movie Rule Hints He Can Never Work With Jason Statham or Dwayne Johnson

When it comes to fights and takedowns, it’s no-holds-barred for Ritchson as well as his fictional opponent. This means he isn’t afraid to get beaten, battered, and bruised on-screen, irrespective of how it may affect or influence his image as an action hero.

In an interview with Variety, the actor claimed:

It’s important to me that people understand this when they come watch one of my movies. There’s no fight count here. I’ve got friends in the business for whom every punch is worth a point. They can’t be defeated.

Hear Us Out, Alan Ritchson’s Perfect Dcu Character Is Way More Powerful Than Batman
Image
Alan Ritchson is currently circling Batman talks for James Gunn’s new Dcu (via Variety), but he’s already proven himself with another DC character who is more powerful than Gotham’s Dark Knight! While we speculate whether Ritchson could be seen as the Caped Crusader next, his past role as Aquaman in Smallville makes a strong case for Gunn to cast him as the rightful King of Atlantis instead of the street’s vigilante.

Ritchson first played Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, in Season 5 of Smallville, and reprised his role multiple times on the show. Unlike Jason Momoa’s rugged presence in the Dceu, Ritchson’s version was younger and lighter.

But sellers still see the festival as a prime launchpad, using it to float prestige projects to the right buyers, banking on critical heat to position art house titles that could otherwise vanish in a crowded marketplace.

“It’s a different kind of hustle,” says one veteran European sales agent. “You’re not going to Venice to presell a title and close out your financing in a week. But for the right finished film, it can be the place that generates that first wave of buzz and gets buyers excited so you can close deals in Toronto and beyond.”

This year’s lineup should give buyers plenty to work with. Politically charged...

‘Reacher’ Creator Admits the Series Is Struggling to Handle 1 Specific Problem
Image
Amazon’s Reacher has become one of Prime Video’s biggest hits, breaking streaming records with its third season and proving that Alan Ritchson’s book-accurate Jack Reacher is exactly what fans of Lee Child’s novels have been waiting for. But behind the scenes, the series is grappling with one major challenge — and according to Child himself, it’s not one that’s going away anytime soon. The big issue, according to Child, is the fact Reacher doesn't stick around anywhere.

Just as in the 29 novels, the TV version of Reacher is an wandering former military police officer who drifts from town to town, always stumbling into new trouble,...

Jack Reacher Author Lee Child Feels The Prime Video Series Has One Big Problem Each Season
Image
Having long since established itself as a show that justifies a subscription to Amazon's streamer, "Reacher" recently broke Prime Video ratings records with its third season. The basic formula of a large man beating people senseless for eight episodes in a row has surprisingly resonated with, well, dads probably. But there's a pulpy charm to the show that appeals to any action fan. Star Alan Ritchson is also a big part of the show's success, finally gifting fans of Lee Child's novels, on which the show is based, a book-accurate depiction of the titular hero.

As such, it might seem as if the writers have it easy: adapt an already popular book,...

Prime Video Has Already Found a Must-Watch Replacement for 'Reacher'
Image
Fans of character-driven investigative thrillers such as Reacher have a new title to look forward to on Prime Video. The series Raakh, starring Bollywood star Ali Fazal, will debut on the streamer next year. Prime Video is already home to shows such as Reacher and Neagley, not to mention Boschand its own spin-offs, as well as The Terminal List. Raakh, which translates to "ash" in Hindi, was described by its director Prosit Roy as "a deeply immersive world that pushes boundaries while exploring the complex layers of human nature."

The series, in which Fazal plays a cop, will linger in the "gray areas of morality, justice, and redemption," and will...

Alan Ritchson’s Fan-Favorite Action Series Falls Down Streaming Charts Ahead of Season 4
Image
After riding high with record-breaking viewership for Season 3, Reacher has finally hit a bump. The Alan Ritchson-led Prime Video juggernaut has officially fallen out of the streamer’s Top 10 in the U.S., just weeks after wrapping its best-reviewed season to date. On its own, that might not be a huge cause for concern – after all, most shows cool off once the season ends – but for Reacher, the dip comes at a moment of serious turbulence behind the scenes.

On August 7, following the Skydance-Paramount merger, the entire franchise shifted homes. Reacher, its planned spin-off Neagley, and Prime Video’s Cross all moved under the newly revived Paramount TV...

Red, White & Royal Blue Author Clarifies Sequel Update Status 2 Years Later
Image

Starring Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez in the leading roles, and based on Casey McQuinston's 2019 novel of the same name, the film was so successful that Amazon MGM Studios decided to grant it a sequel, even though there...

The official logline for the film reads (via Tudum):

When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.

Government officials must get to work and identify the culprit before the United States is hit with an even bigger threat. We can expect ample political tensions, high stakes, special operatives, and warring nations in the upcoming film.

Before Reacher, Alan Ritchson Starred in an Underrated Sci-Fi Gem You Can Watch for Free
Image
Before he was Jack Reacher in Prime Video’s series Reacher, Alan Ritchson had starred in an underrated sci-fi gem that is currently available to stream for free on Hoopla. The actor portrayed the role of Adam in a 2015 film named Lazer Team, and yeah, the movie is exactly like how the title suggests.

With aliens sending a battle suit to Earth to create a Champion of Earth, four men accidentally shoot down a UFO, and see the battle suit, which is divided into four fragments. Each men take a piece while Adam (Alan Ritchson) has four days to train these men in terms of alien warfare.

The movie wasn’t bad, but it received average reviews, and it got Alan Ritchson the exposure that he needed.

Reacher's Alan Ritchson Starred In A Forgotten Kevin Hart Comedy
Image
These days, Alan Ritchson is known primarily for being the giant man at the head of Prime Video's "Reacher" series. His hulking physique has helped the show become a major success, not only because it matches the description of the character from Lee Child's original novels, but because fans were robbed of a book-accurate Jack Reacher in Tom Cruise's two movies from the 2010s. The show proved an instant hit and has since maintained its popularity, with season 3 of "Reacher" breaking a ratings record. With his successful streaming series, Ritchson not only gave the Jack Reacher saga a worthy on-screen adaptation but established himself as a major star who has since shown up in "Fast X," "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," and will soon star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Christmas movie with a wild premise.

It's been a long road to this point for the actor, who...
