A man in the midst of trying to rebuild his family finds himself in a nightmarish fight for survival in Succubus. The horror movie hails from writer/director R.J. Daniel Hanna, best known for previously helming the Adina Porter and Uzo Aduba-starring Miss Virginia, as well as the Matthew Modine-starring sports drama Hard Miles and working as an editor on a variety of other titles, including the 2020 horror-thriller What Lies Below, led by The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Ema Horvath.
Succubus centers on Chris, a seemingly mild-mannered father currently working through a trial separation from his wife as he tries to salvage their marriage. From the advice of Eddie, his jock-like best friend, Chris creates a profile on a dating website and matches with a woman named Adra, who claims to be in trouble while...

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

New Girl is moving out of Netflix this April.
After nearly 10 years on the platform, all seven seasons of the Zooey Deschanel-starring Fox comedy are exiting the platform on Sunday.
But fans will soon be able to reunite with Deschanel’s Jess, Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Winston (Lamorne Morris) and more on April 17 when New Girl starts streaming on Hulu and Peacock.
Later in the month, Netflix subscribers will lose access to Alex Gibney’s Julian Assange documentary We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks and Bill Nye: Science Guy, which follows the beloved children’s television host as he takes on the anti-science movement, including those who deny climate change and evolution.
By the end of the month, several movies will leave Netflix, including Leap Year, Road to Perdition and action films Den of Thieves and Empire State.
And Edgar Wright’s 2010 movie version of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World...

Four weeks ago, it was officially announced that Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) is directing not only a remake of the 2008 film The Strangers, but an entire remake trilogy. The first installment in that trilogy is currently filming in Slovakia, with Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) in the lead role… and Deadline reports that Petsch is joined in the cast by Ema Horvath.
Horvath may be best known for playing Eärien in the Amazon series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but she has mainly worked in the horror genre up to this point. Her previous credits include Like.Share.Follow., The Gallows Act II, The Mortuary Collection, and What Lies Below.

Exclusive: Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) has been tapped to star alongside Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez and Gabriel Basso in Lionsgate’s remake of the 2008 horror The Strangers, which is in production in Slovakia.
The original film, written and directed by Bryan Bertino, starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple contending with a terrifying home invasion. It registered as a sleeper hit upon its May 2008 release via Universal Pictures and came to be appreciated in the years following as a cult classic, with the sequel The Strangers: Prey at Night being released in March 2018.
Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) is directing the remake, which will follow Petsch’s character as she drives cross-country with her longtime boyfriend (Gutierrez) to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb,...

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, specifically the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings. The series is a prequel to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and is set during Arda’s Second Age, when the Rings of Power are first created. Like any good fantasy series, The Rings of Power has an expansive cast of characters whose stories will weave through each other to determine the fate of Middle-earth. Here are the Elves, Dwarves, Humans, and Harfoots that will feature prominently throughout this season.

In a rare week where no single program exceeded the 1 billion minute threshold, the Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer-led film “Thunder Force” opened with thunderous viewership on Netflix. The movie towered over all other programs on subscription-based streaming platforms in Nielsen’s Weekly Top 10 list, with 950 million viewing minutes for the week of April 5-11. The action-comedy flick also ended up in the number one slot on Nielsen’s Weekly Top 10 Movies list. It has been the strongest film release since Amazon’s “Coming 2 America” debuted in March.
In addition to the acquired content list, the global marketing research firm will also be pushing out weekly Top 10 lists that take into consideration original programming and movies in an effort to provide an expanded and more inclusive look at most streamed programs for that given week.

Blend one well-known name with scandal; add an appealing subject. Bake in theatrical visibility and fold in home-friendly pricing. Best served with stale alternatives. With this well-tested recipe for VOD success, the long-delayed “City of Lies” stands out this week.
The troubled 2018 film stars Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker as Los Angeles detectives investigating the murders of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Open Road filed for bankruptcy shortly after it acquired the film. Legal and pandemic issues followed, and then Saban stepped in. A March 19 theater release roused $565,000; two weeks later, it debuted on VOD. It’s a trajectory similar to the one recently enjoyed by the disgraced Armie Hammer, who stars opposite Gary Oldman in another VOD hit, “Crisis.”
Priced at $6.99, “City of Lies” took first place at AppleTV, #4 at GooglePlay (both ranking by number of rentals) and an impressive fourth place at FandangoNow (which lists by revenue earned...

Landing On VOD in late 2020 during the pandemic, What Lies Below failed to make much of a splash with audiences. But its Netflix debut has been a different story, as the horror thriller about a Merman has topped the streaming charts. The movie, which was written and directed by Braden R. Duemmler, has become somewhat of a Netflix phenomenon as it became the app's #1 watched new release. But many have been left baffled by the ending, which some audience members have found quite confusing. Warning, there are spoilers ahead in case you haven't watched What Lies Below just yet.
So what is going on with that ending? The movie follows a socially awkward 16-year-old who meets her mother's fiancé, a man whose charm, intelligence and beauty seems too perfect to be human. Which it is. As the thriller plays out, it becomes obvious that the man in question is a fish monster.

“Raya and the Last Dragon,” which grossed $32 million for its first month in theaters, made a strong general-public premium VOD debut. Everyone can now buy it at $29.99; previously, only Disney+ subscribers had the privilege with the same upcharge. The animated film took the top spot at FandangoNow as well as AppleTV which ranks by purchase volume.
“Black Widow” and “Cruella” are expected to follow suit in the coming months, but Disney+ availability looks a lot less threatening after the box-office success of “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which grossed $48.5 million — over 9 million tickets sold — even while available on HBO Max. In Canada, where most theaters are not yet open, it took in around $3 million U.S. as a PVOD offering.
After several weeks at $19.99, “Wonder Woman 1984” benefited from a price reduction to $5.99 three months after its theatrical debut — Aka normal practice. It is #1 at Google Play, and #2 at AppleTV and FandangoNow,...

Netflix is the king of the streaming world until proven otherwise. But in recent months the streamer’s lists of new releases have looked relatively sparse as competing media conglomerates remove their titles from Netflix’s library. With its list of new releases for April 2021, however, Netflix appears to have its original production machine operating at high capacity once again.
There are plenty of intriguing Netflix original series and films this month. The one that appears to have the highest blockbuster potential though is the series Shadow and Bone on April 23. Shadow and Bone is adapted from Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha-verse trilogy and should bring another compelling sci-fi/fantasy universe to the streaming world.

The most iconic, effective genre movies don’t just rely on visual scares to frighten their viewers; they also depend on grounding their narratives in their characters’ emotions, motivations and overall arcs. First-time feature film writer-director, Braden R. Duemmler, did just that with his new supernatural horror thriller, ‘What Lies Below.’ The drama features an ever-growing, […]

Just because December is a time to celebrate festive movies, that doesn’t mean horror needs to take a back seat, and this month will be full of new genre offerings for fans to dig into.

For his feature film debut, writer/director Braden R. Duemmler brings together the light-in-the-sky concept with the drama of a teenage girl crushing on her mother's fiance. On paper it sounds like a strange mix but on screen, the concepts compliment each other and come together to great effect in What Lies Below.
The film stars up-and-comer Ema Horvath as Liberty, a young woman heading home to spend some time with her mom Michelle (Mena Suvari) in the family cabin. But Michelle has been keeping a secret: she has a new man in her life, a handsome, athletic, charismatic scientist named John Smith (Trey Tucker) who is doing research on fresh and saltwater creatures.
The sexual tension is dialed up to 11 at which point, Liberty starts to suspect that something is not quite r...

Something is in the lake. What Lies Below starring Ema Horvath, Trey Tucker and Mena Suvari is coming home on December 4 from Vertical Entertainment and looks to put some chills into the holiday season. We've got an exclusive look below at the upcoming horror movie you can sink into right now.
In What Lies Below, Liberty, a socially awkward 16-year-old, returns from two months at camp to a blindsided introduction of her Mother's fiancé, John Smith, whose charm, intelligence, and beauty paint the picture of a man too perfect to be human.
Director Braden R. Duemmler said that while writing the screenplay, he aspired to tell a story that was not just Horror, or Sci-Fi, or Family Drama, or Mystery, or Teenage Angst, but rather all at once. A film that navigates these genres by grounding the narrative in its characters, specifically, the perspective of our female protagonist, Libby Wells...

Vertical Entertainment has released the trailer for What Lies Below. In the footage, we learn that mom's new boyfriend is not exactly who he seems to be. The mystery thriller was directed and written by Braden R. Duemmler, and it will be available On Demand starting December 4th. While the release date isn't too far away, the footage makes it seem like a Halloween release would have been ideal for What Lies Below. Most people spent the majority of their Halloween indoors and this seems like it would have been a good addition.
What Lies Below focuses on Liberty, a socially awkward 16-year-old, who returns from two months at camp to a blindsided introduction of her Mother's fiancé, John Smith. His charm, intelligence, and beauty paint the picture of a man too perfect to be human. One can tell right from the start that something is off with Mr. Smith,...

"You're kind of, uh, a weird dude." "Yes I am. But I mean, weird is cool. Right...?" Vertical Ent + XYZ Films has unveiled an official trailer for What Lies Below, a dark mystery thriller that is the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Braden R. Duemmler. The film is about a teenager who returns from two months away to discover her mother has a new stud fiancé named John Smith. The film stars Ema Horvath as Liberty, Mena Suvari, Haskiri Velazquez, and Trey Tucker as the man. There is a mega creepy Under the Skin shot in this trailer that's definitely a wink at him being some kind of alien or creature. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Braden R. Duemmler's What Lies Below,...
