Nicole Kidman’s Masha Dmitrichenko is back for another somewhat shady wellness retreat in “Nine Perfect Strangers” Season 2.

Keep on reading for a full breakdown of the new all-star cast in “Nine Perfect Strangers” Season 2.

AMC's Comedy With 91% Rt Score Becomes Netflix Hit Two Years After Ending
Image
Kevin Can F**k Himself, an AMC comedy with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, has found new success on Netflix. Debuting in June 2021, from creator and executive producer Valerie Armstrong, Kevin Can F**k Himself is among the AMC shows that are now available on Netflix as part of a licensing deal between the two platforms. It stars the Emmy-winning Schitt's Creek star Annie Murphy, presenting itself as a dark comedy that aims at the trope of the underappreciated and neglected sitcom wife.

According to data provided by Reelgood, which tracks performance on streaming, Kevin Can F**k Himself came in fifth place in the overall Top 10 for the week of August 22 through August 28, across all platforms. When looking only at television shows, however, the Annie Murphy series ranks even better and comes in second place just behind Apple TV+'s Vince Vaughn crime comedy Bad Monkey.

Netflix Acquiring Fan-Favorite AMC Shows Was a Great Idea for Both Sides
Image
Several AMC+ shows, such as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, were added to Netflix for a year. The move includes classics and newer series like Dark Winds and Kevin Can F**k Himself. It's a win-win situation for viewers and streaming companies, promoting both AMC+ and Netflix.

Netflix subscribers may have noticed that a few extra titles have popped up in their recommendations, which is slightly surprising; this is especially true for those also subscribed to AMC+. Those who subscribed to AMC+ may even think, "What the heck, this was exclusive content and part of the reason I signed up for AMC+ in the first place!" Well, we say relax. The added titles will be on Netflix for a year, greatly benefiting both streaming companies and viewers.

Added on August 19, these titles offer a glimpse into some of the best programming available on AMC+ for Netflix viewers to preview; some are already classics,...

Under-The-Radar Comedy Show With 91% Rt Score Is Now On Netflix & I'm Mad It Was Canceled After 2 Seasons
Image
"Kevin Can F**k Himself" is a dark comedy series with unique dual tones, blending sitcom and drama formats flawlessly. The show's concept was loosely inspired by the 2016 sitcom "Kevin Can Wait," exploring themes of gender norms and television. Despite strong reviews, the show ended after two seasons on AMC due to potential decline in viewership and mixed audience reactions.

Netflix recently added Kevin Can F**k himself to its platform, but it's still a shame that the show only got two seasons. Kevin Can F**k Himself is a dark comedy series starring Annie Murphy as Allison, a woman who is struggling to divine her own path amid a disastrous marriage to her insensitive husband, Kevin. The show is unique because of its dual tones. One part of the show follows a typical sitcom set-up where Allison portrays the stereotypical housewife of Kevin. However, when Allison is alone, the series transitions...

Minor spoilers for Black Mirror season 6

The cast of Black Mirror season 6 is full of familiar faces, and here’s who plays who in each episode. Created by Charlie Brooker, the anthology TV series Black Mirror has become known for the themes its addresses, with a touch of sci-fi, horror, and realism. Black Mirror is mostly about technological advancements and how these affect society, though in some cases, it has left technology aside to, instead, explore social issues, fears, and how desensitized society has become to important topics.

Black Mirror season 6 is a combination of both, presenting stories that show how far technology can go and how it affects society, and also more fantasy/supernatural-oriented stories that focus more on how society...

One of the Writers Guild’s Biggest Contract Negotiation Issues Is the ‘Mini Room’ Boom
Image
One of the most resonant issues on the table in the ongoing Writers Guild of America contract negotiations has turned out to be one of the hardest to define: mini rooms.

Rising to the top of writers’ concerns in bargaining with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is the rapid growth in the use of so-called mini rooms in the development and production of TV series. Yet ask anyone around town to define what constitutes a mini room, and answers vary greatly.

While traditional writers’ rooms consist of seven or eight writers, a mini room is often “a miniaturized writers’ room,” one TV exec says. “We’ll hire two to three additional writers to help our showrunner crack the first two to three scripts, after the pilot is written.”

Multiple literary agents, execs and scribes who spoke with Variety identified two scenarios that most often lead a production...

‘Kevin Can F Himself’ Season 2 Review: Annie Murphy Series Says Farewell
Image
Editor’s Note: Spoilers for the series finale are included.

The Annie Murphy-starring AMC series “Kevin Can F**k Himself” hinges on an interesting gimmick: What if a woman was the wife of a sitcom character, but in her moments alone she was just an average woman desperate to leave a dying, toxic marriage? Season 1 focused heavily on this conceit, with Allison McRoberts (Murphy) desperate to kill her bumbling, one-note sitcom stereotype husband Kevin (Eric Petersen) in order to free herself. But with the Season 1 finale, and the reveal that AMC was canceling the show after Season 2, a shift was felt.

Season 2 of “Kevin” understands, like its main character, there needs to be honesty. Where Allison spent last season contemplating killing herself, now she’s actively planning to kill herself (or at least faking it to start somewhere new). Compared to last season, this season’s Allison doesn’t want...

‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’ Review: Final Season Of AMC’s Sitcom Deconstruction Lacks Bite
Image
After a banger of a set-up that played out over the first 3-4 episodes of AMC’s clever “Kevin Can F**k Himself,” one could almost see the air coming out of the high-concept balloon. The second half of the first season doesn’t feel nearly as confident, as if one could sense the uncertainty in the writer’s room as to what exactly to do with their concept. It’s a show that set up so many interesting ideas only to get cold feet when it came to exploring them.

This Week in TV: ‘House of the Dragon,’ ‘She-Hulk’
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Late August is typically the dog days for TV premieres, and indeed it’s a relatively light week for series and season debuts. What the Aug. 17-23 period lacks in quantity, however, it makes up for by having two of the more anticipated shows of the year so far in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the latest Marvel show on Disney+.

Below is The Hollywood Reporter‘s rundown of premieres, returns and specials over the next seven days. It would be next to impossible to watch everything, but let THR point the way to worthy options for the coming week. All times are Et/Pt unless noted.

It’s been three-plus years since Game of Thrones ended (with no small amount of griping from fans) — and more than that since HBO began looking for...

Kevin Can F**k Himself Season 2 Review: Annie Murphy Shines in the Show's Finale
Image
When it was announced last year that the series Kevin Can F**k Himself would be coming to an end after its upcoming second season, there was a general sense that was just about the right amount of time for it to close out the story. While Annie Murphy as Allison McRoberts, husband to the titular Kevin (Eric Petersen) of the title, could have remained as sharp as ever in the role to keep the show going for multiple more seasons, that would have started to feel like a narrative stretch. To have any more would start to wear the formal and thematic conceit a little thin as the sitcom it was most clearly tearing down, Kevin Can Wait, itself only ran for two seasons. While much of television seems to push its story to a breaking point, there is something to be appreciated in a shorter series that doesn’t...

The new version of the 1990s sci-fi series will star Raymond Lee of AMC’s “Kevin Can F**k Himself” as Dr. Ben Seong, whose team restarts the Quantum Leap accelerator 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) disappeared.

Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
Allison’s story will come to an end this summer. AMC previously announced that Kevin Can F**k Himself will end with its upcoming second season. Now, the cable channel has announced that the final episodes will kick off with a pair of episodes on Monday, August 22nd.

A dark comedy, the Kevin Can F**K Himself TV show stars Murphy, Eric Petersen, Mary Hollis Inboden, Alex Bonifer, Raymond Lee, and Brian Howe. Set in Worcester, Mass., the series tells the story of Allison McRoberts (Murphy), a woman we all grew up believing we knew — the prototypical “sitcom wife.” She’s beautiful and can take a joke, though, to be honest, she’s usually the butt of them. And, Allison’s married to Kevin (Petersen), a husky and “lovable” man-child who must’ve won some sort of marriage lottery. But, what happens when we follow Allison out of her husband’s domain?...

So, Allison again entrusts the help of neighbor Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden), who urges Allison, "Please don't say or do anything stupid." That's when we see Allison Googling the words "fake your own death" at a public library. We'd say that...

‘Central Park’ Gets Season 3 Premiere Date with Kristen Bell Returning as New Character (TV News Roundup)
Image
“Central Park,” the hit animated musical comedy series from Apple TV+, will return for its third season on Friday, September 9. Original cast member Kristen Bell is returning to star in Season 3 in the new role of Abby, Paige’s little sister.

In Season 1, Bell voiced Owen (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Paige’s (Kathryn Hahn) mixed raced daughter Molly, but she exited the series in 2020 because she believed it unjust for her to voice a biracial character.

“Casting a mixed race character w/a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race & Black American experience,” Bell’s statement read at the time.

From creator, writer and executive producer Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad and Nora Smith, the 13-episode third season of “Central Park” will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with three episodes. It will be followed by one episode weekly every Friday through November 18.

In the Season 3, Bitsy will continue her...

Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
After the cliffhanger ending of last season, "Kevin Can F**k Himself" is back with the second and final season. Emmy Award winner Annie Murphy ("Schitt's Creek") plays Allison McRoberts, a Massachusetts housewife who has spent the last decade in a loveless marriage to the absolute worst type of "King of Queens" style oafish babyman who has pushed her to the edge with his constant whining, weaponized incompetence, and disrespectful antics. When Allison is plotting her escape, "Kevin Can F**k Himself" is presented in the gritty, single-camera look of prestige dramas. But whenever...

Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
Allison's story will come to an end this summer.

Set in Worcester, Mass., the series tells the story of Allison McRoberts (Murphy), a woman we all grew up believing we knew -- the prototypical "sitcom wife." She's beautiful and can take a joke, though, to be honest, she's usually the butt of them. And, Allison's married to Kevin (Petersen), a husky and "lovable" man-child who must've won some sort of marriage lottery. But, what happens when we...

Image
Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are getting into business with Lionsgate TV. The prolific duo have signed a first-look producing deal with the studio via their Le Train Train Productions under which they will produce scripted programming for multiple platforms.

Their first project in development is romantic comedy Lovesick, based on the UK romantic comedy series of the same name. Originally produced by Clerkenwell Films, the project is part of the scripted co-production partnership between Lionsgate and BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions.

The British sitcom, created by Tom Edge, revolved around a group of English friends sharing a house in the West End of Glasgow and their romantic lives. Starring Johnny Flynn, Antonia Thomas, Daniel Ings, Hannah Britland and Joshua McGuire, the show was first broadcast on Channel 4 in October 2014. A Twist in the Case of Where ‘Murderville’ Will Compete at the Emmys (Exclusive)
Image
Netflix’s “Murderville” is angling for major Emmy attention with the streamer submitting the show for consideration in the variety sketch series categories, where it would potentially face-off against the likes of “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and reigning champ, “Saturday Night Live.” However, Variety has learned exclusively that the Television Academy deemed the Krister Johnson-developed show a comedy series, where it will now compete with shows such as “Abbott Elementary,” “Ted Lasso” and its streaming counterparts “Cobra Kai” and “The Chair.”

Along with vying for attention for outstanding comedy series, star Will Arnett, who plays the clumsy and hilarious detective Terry Seattle, will submit for lead actor (comedy). Three of the guest detectives have been submitted for guest actor (comedy): Conan O’Brien, Marshawn Lynch and Kumail Nanjiani. While other guest actors Annie Murphy, Sharon Stone and Ken Jeong have not been submitted by Netflix, each has other...

‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’ Season 2 Casts ‘Kevin Can Wait’ Alum Erinn Hayes
Image
AMC announced that Erinn Hayes is set as a guest star for Season 2 of “Kevin Can F**k Himself.” Character details remain under wraps.

Hayes is best known for starring as Dr. Lola Spratt in “Chidrens Hospital,” the TheWB.com and later Adult Swim sitcom that parodies medical dramas such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “General Hospital.” She also plays Lola in “Medical Police,” Netflix’s spinoff of the series.

But another of Hayes’ prominent roles was playing Donna Gable, Kevin Gable’s (Kevin James) wife in the CBS sitcom “Kevin Can Wait.” In 2017, Hayes’s character was killed off to make room for Leah Remini to become a series regular as Vanessa Cellucci.

“The character will have passed away and we will be moving forward in time catching up at a later date,” said CBS programming boss Thom Sherman at TCA press tour when explaining why Hayes had not been cast in Season 2 of “Kevin Can Wait.

‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’ Adds ‘Kevin Can Wait’ Star Erinn Hayes in Season 2 (Photos)
Image
Well, this sounds like perfect casting. Erinn Hayes, who played Kevin James’ wife, Donna, on the CBS comedy Kevin Can Wait, is set to guest star in Season 2 of the AMC series Kevin Can F**k Himself. Character details will be revealed at a later date, so we’ll have to wait to see what we find out before we see her onscreen. However, you can get a first look at her on set, in a bowling shirt, in the photos above and below. Robert Clark/Stalwart Productions/AMC Kevin Can F**k Himself follows Allison McRoberts (Annie Murphy), a prototypical sitcom wife who finally wakes up and revolts against her life. Hayes will be appearing alongside series stars Murphy, Mary Hollis Inboden, Eric Petersen, and Alex Bonifer in Season 2. When Kevin Can F**k Himself was first announced, it was impossible to not think about Kevin Can Wait, considering it had recently been canceled.

On the TV side, “Succession” (HBO), “Mare of Easttown” (HBO), “The Beatles: Get Back” (Disney+), “Kevin Can F**k Himself” (AMC), “Hacks” (HBO Max), and “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox) were the big winners for drama, limited series, documentary non-theatrical, multi-camera and single-camera comedy series, and non-theatrical animation, respectively. With ‘Yellowjackets’ and ‘Euphoria,’ Music Supervisor Jen Malone Has Become a Television Tastemaker
Image
It’s late on a Friday afternoon and as the working week draws to a close, music supervisor Jen Malone is invigorated. The cause for celebration? An email she had been waiting for just arrived, marking the last clearance for a song to be used in the season finale of HBO’s “Euphoria.”

Malone’s needle drops for the music-heavy series helped make “Euphoria” a social-media phenomenon, trending on a weekly basis as two million-plus tune in. Those viewers are also holding their phones toward the screen with the Shazam app open, looking to capture every song.

Malone — who has been nominated for two Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, both in the same category: music supervision for film budgeted under $5 million, for “Malcolm & Marie” and “Zola” (alongside Nicole Weisberg and Mandi Collier) — spends Sunday evenings glued to HBO herself. And in a case of life meets art, she was...

‘No Time to Die,’ ‘Belfast,’ ‘King Richard’ Make the Cut in Ace Eddie Nominations
Judi Dench, Ciarán Hinds, Jude Hill, Lewis McAskie, Caitríona Balfe, and Jamie Dornan in Belfast (2021)
“Belfast,” “Dune,” “King Richard,” “No Time to Die” and “The Power of the Dog” have been nominated as the best dramatic film editing of 2021 by the American Cinema Editors, which announced the nominees for the 72nd annual Ace Eddie Awards on Thursday.

Those five films will compete in the Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) category, while the field in Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy) will consist of “Cruella,” “Don’t Look Up,” “The French Dispatch,” “Licorice Pizza” and “tick, tick…Boom!”

The most surprising omission was probably “West Side Story,” while Ace Eddie voters also bypassed “Nightmare Alley,” “Coda” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Nominations for the editing of animated features went to the same five animated films that have also been nominated by the Cinema Audio Society, Motion Picture Sound Editors, Visual Effects Society and Art Directors Guild: “Encanto,” “Luca,” “The Mitchells vs. the Machines,” “Raya and the Last Dragon” and “Sing 2.

‘A Clusterfunke Christmas’: Rachel Dratch and Ana Gasteyer’s Comedy Central Answer to Hallmark Movies
Image
[This post originally appeared as part of Recommendation Machine, IndieWire’s daily TV picks feature.]

Where to Watch ‘A Clüsterfünke Christmas’: Comedy Central

Maybe you have a family member or a loved one or someone you live with who is currently pumping an all-day Christmas song radio station or streaming playlist. Perhaps you are that very person for someone else. If either of those apply, I guarantee there’s a song missing from the rotation. It’s called “All I’ll Have for Christmas is Fruit” and it’s a new holiday staple and it arrives about 5 minutes into “A Clüsterfünke Christmas.”

The Comedy Central movie that contains it, written by Rachel Dratch and Ana Gasteyer, is a feature-length riff on Hallmark movies. Much like the thing they’re recreating with a signature twist, it feels like the physical embodiment of a peppermint-flavored checklist, a collection of holiday movie mandates that here get a little bit of a jokey boost.

Everything We Know About Kevin Can F**k Himself Season 2 So Far
Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
The second season will also be the last of "Kevin Can F**k Himself," AMC's hit dramedy starring Emmy Award winner, Annie Murphy of "Schitt's Creek" fame. Murphy plays Allison McRoberts, a disillusioned Massachusetts housewife stuck in a loveless marriage to a petulant manchild named Kevin whose antics of weaponized incompetence and straight up emotional manipulation are pushing her to the brink of insanity. Whenever Allison is shown interacting with Kevin, the show resembles a brightly-lit multi-cam sitcom in front of a live studio audience, complete with laugh track, but when Allison is on her own, the world she knows becomes grim and...

Kevin Can F**k Himself Creator Valerie Armstrong On Getting Real About Miserable Sitcom Wives [Interview]
Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
Behind the well-earned strong sentiment in the title, Valerie Armstrong's "Kevin Can F**k Himself" is an extremely thoughtful (and funny) piece of contemporary television. The series takes respectful but incisive aim at the conventions of the old sitcoms of yore, and in particular the archaic trope of the schlubby man-child husband with the gorgeous, oddly subservient wife. Instead, we're presented with a story of female friendship and revenge: Allison McRoberts (an electric Annie Murphy) is stuck in a relationship with her deadbeat idiot husband Kevin (a hilarious Eric Peterson). As her friendship with neighbor Patty O'Connor grows (Mary Hollis Inboden rules here),...

‘Schitt’s Creek’ Alum Annie Murphy Signs With CAA (Exclusive)
Image
Annie Murphy has signed with CAA for representation, Variety has learned exclusively.

Murphy was previously represented by Gersh. She continues to be repped by Molly Mandel and Peter Kousakis at Mosaic, as well as Pam Winter at Gga.

Murphy is best known for her critically-acclaimed role on the Pop TV-CBC series “Schitt’s Creek.” She starred in all six seasons of the show in the role of Alexis Rose, the pampered socialite daughter of Johnny and Moira Rose. The series slowly but surely built up its audience over the years, leading to its incredible performance at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2020. “Schitt’s Creek” swept all the major comedy awards, with Murphy winning the statuette for best supporting actress in a comedy series.

Since “Schitt’s Creek” ended, Murphy has gone on to star in the AMC dark comedy series “Kevin Can F**k Himself.” The show stars Murphy as a stereotypical sitcom...
