Lynn Hamilton, best remembered for her roles in Sanford and Son and The Waltons, recently passed away at the age of 95. While tributes have poured in for her long and versatile career, one of her most overlooked roles is now gaining attention in light of her death, her guest appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
It wasn’t just any episode, either. Hamilton appeared in one of the show’s most memorable outings. The show also featured none other than legendary director Martin Scorsese. Though known for wildly different reasons in entertainment, the two shared a surprising connection through this HBO show.
Lynn Hamilton and Martin Scorsese didn’t share a scene
In Season 4’s standout episode, The Survivor, Hamilton played a Holocaust survivor invited to a dinner party that quickly spirals into awkward chaos. Her character becomes the center of an uncomfortable standoff when another guest, who had previously appeared on the reality show Survivor,...

With Emmy voting beginning in two days and running through June 23, it’s time to once again confront that old Television Academy truth: Emmy voters are creatures of habit.
While the Oscars have revamped their membership over the past decade, bringing in more international voters and producing a string of Best Picture nominees and winners that once would have been unthinkable, the Television Academy has adapted to the changing TV landscape by remaining largely predictable.
Yes, it’s progress that voters embraced the predominantly Japanese-language series “Shōgun” last year, but nobody was really surprised when that happened. Like an aircraft carrier, the Television Academy is huge — more than 26,000 members — and it doesn’t turn easily.
Still, one can hope for some changes this year. On the eve of voting, here’s my modest wish list for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Pleasant surprises of any kind

Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson has enjoyed success on the big and small screens throughout his five decades. Take a tour of our photo gallery ranking his 12 greatest feature films from worst to best.
Levinson began his career as a comedy writer on various variety shows in the 1970s ultimately landing a steady job writing for 72 episodes of “The Carol Burnett Show,” for which he won Emmys in 1974 and 1975, competing again in 1976. When that show ended he began writing screenplays and had a remarkably successful run co-writing two Mel Brooks movies -- “Silent Movie” and “High Anxiety” -- as well as two acclaimed dramas “Inside Moves” and “and Justice for All.” He would receive his first Oscar nomination for the screenplay of “And Justice for All.”
That success led Levinson to a feature film directing career. His semi-autobiographical film “Diner,” about a group of young men hanging out in his native Baltimore,...

The veteran mind of Barry Levinson rejoined the theatrical circuit this past weekend, with his latest effort, The Alto Knights, struggling to make the impact the Academy Award winner would've liked, despite starring the iconic Robert De Niro in not one but two roles. Beyond a difficult start to box office life, The Alto Knights also struggled to impress critics, earning a terrible opening critical score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film's 38% critical rating is juxtaposed by its audience response, with The Alto Knights officially earning an impressive 70% audience score on the site.
Although still Levinson's worst-rated movie of this current decade, the 70% audience score of The Alto Knights is still much better than many of his other efforts, only bettered by three other projects since 2012. These three projects are 2015's The Natural: The Best There Ever Was, 2021's TheSurvivor, and another 2021 title, Ennio. Only one of these three,...

When it first aired in 2000, "Six Feet Under" was unknowingly part of the dawn of a golden age of television. Alongside early-aughts HBO hits like "The Wire" and "The Sopranos," the tragicomedy told the story of a family-run funeral home trying to make sense of life and death in the wake of the sudden loss of their father.
A revival has reportedly been in the works for some time, despite the fact that it would seemingly be in conflict with what is arguably the greatest series finale of a TV show ever. Still, the mere idea of a return to these loveable, complicated, and tragic characters makes us wonder what happened to the cast of "Six Feet Under?"

This, of course, means series creator Mike McMahan, the writers and animators introduced a plethora of odd elements into the canon. While some of these weird details wouldn't really fit into other Star Trek stories, Lower Decks gives future storytellers the option to include them.
Regardless of whether they appear elsewhere or not, Lower Decks imbued the Star Trek universe with an undeniable sense of fun. Though there are almost too many new elements to mention, it's still worth looking back at the weirdest Star Trek details introduced by the Lower Decks crew. Keeping the same quality of tasks and challenges for more than two decades is not an easy feat. However, the reality competitive show Survivor has managed to do this throughout the last 46 seasons. The show is currently airing its 47th season and the tasks are more gruesome than the last. Further, the subject of Survivor won’t be complete without Jeff Probst, who has been a loyal part of the show since its beginning.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Survivor Season 47 Episode 5.] A new bombshell has entered the sanctuary. Survivor introduced a brand new twist in Season 47 Episode 5: The Survivor Social. It’s a trip to the sanctuary for the winners of the reward challenge, and the first “social” allowed players from different tribes to connect at the barbecue — something that doesn’t typically happen pre-merge. Jeff Probst explains the purpose of “The Survivor Social” in the latest episode of the On Fire podcast (listen in full below). Probst explained the new twist ahead of the challenge in Episode 5, saying that the three tribes would be divided into two just for that challenge and the winning combined team gets to celebrate together with a hot meal afterwards. They got to play cornhole as well. Probst explains to cohosts Jay Wolff and Charlie Davis in On Fire that this twist was implemented as an experiment to see how the...

Sandra Oh and Awkwafina proved to be a terrific duo this year in their hit Hulu telefilm “Quiz Lady.” The flick follows the pair as estranged sisters who must reunite and work together in order to pay for their mother’s gambling debts via the game show that one of them is obsessed with.
Oh and Awkwafina subvert expectations with their performances here with Oh playing the zany, wild sister and Awkwafina turning in a subdued performance as the awkward, restrained, quieter one. These dual performances have become the foundation of overwhelmingly positive notices for “Quiz Lady.”
Charles Bramesco (Indie Wire) opined: “The odd couple… shares a sensational chemistry, building on the base amusement of seeing Oh let her extension-laden hair down and Awkwafina crimp the straight-man character into weird new shapes.”

Billy Magnussen always understands the assignment. Whatever the medium or genre, the actor manages to stand out with an impressive range. He has literally played a Disney prince — twice! — in the film versions of “Into the Woods” and “Aladdin.” He earned a Tony nomination for his role as a dimwitted young lover in “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” and has stood out in ensemble films like “Game Night” and “The Big Short.”
But Magnussen also excels at playing the bad guy, such as the tech billionaire who installs a tracking device in his ex-wife in “Made for Love” to a Nazi officer in “The Survivor.” But never more deliciously than in “Road House,” a reimaging of the 1989 Patrick Swayze classic. The new version, hitting Amazon Prime Video this week, stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.

The Survivor is a high-octane action film that balances sophisticated action with a well-written story, keeping viewers engaged throughout its 37-minute runtime. The film's strongest suit is its cinematography, which provides a first-person perspective and stunning visuals, thanks to the work of Suraj Boddu and Shyam Eshwar. Rajath Rajanikanth steals the show with his excellent acting skills and his involvement in multiple aspects of the film's production, making The Survivor an outstanding action thriller with the potential for a sequel.

There is a scene in the first episode of the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" -- called "Twovix" -- wherein the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos has to transport the now-decommissioned U.S.S. Voyager to a museum site. The ship, it seems, has been transformed into a museum, complete with bizarre on-board exhibits, including one devoted to the time Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) and Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) surpassed Warp 10 and evolved into salamanders. On the bridge of the Voyager, there are mannequins of the ship's original crew, each wearing their actual duty uniforms.
Ensign Boimler (Jack Quaid), while setting up the diorama, nearly drops a mannequin of Harry Kim (Garrett Wang), the Voyager character who notoriously stayed an ensign for seven straight years without a promotion. On a show where Boimler geeks out about legendary "Star Trek" characters, it's notable that he says nothing of Harry Kim.

Prime Video dropped a sneak peek of “Wheel of Time” Season 2 ahead of its release on Sept. 1, which fans can now watch at the end of last season’s finale.

It’s a good thing that the Television Academy never scrapped the Television Movie Emmy category because original streaming movies stepped up in a major way this morning in the Primetime noms.
Streaming movies notched four of the five Outstanding Movie Primetime Emmy nomination slots including Disney+’s most watched movie ever Hocus Pocus 2, Disney’s Hulu movies Prey and Fire Island, as well as Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. In recent years, there’s been chatter that the Television Academy was pondering a nix of the movie category, but they’ve held on to it, and obviously streamers are delivering product to it.
Even more amazing, streaming movies grabbed three out of the six writing noms in the limited-anthology series/movie slot: Prey, Fire Island (Joel Kim Booster) and Weird: Al the Yankovic Story (Weird Al and Eric Appel).
