The usual trope

This is one of those movies which you watch when (1) you are hungover on a weekend (2) you have nothing else to do (3) you need something to pass time while you are eating

Biju Menon as usual is good. Manoj guinness as his side kick works as well. The biggest problem I had with this movie among a lot of others, was casting Anaswara as the lead. She was horrible throughout the movie. The song sequence with Aju Varghese was horrendous. She was good in Thaneermatthan Dinangal, but was wrongly casted in this role. As mentioned above, if you have nothing else to do, watch this movie. Otherwise there is nothing substantial you are missing here.

The Usual stuff

A casual watch. Nothing exceptional. Actors = lot of 'em, not utilized to full capacity. Plot = regular story, with nothing much to explore or provide. Saw it on TV; good thing i didn't spend money on theater tickets.

The worst mallu movie of the year

Disappointing performances, horrible plot, and a complete fail when it comes to comedic timings. This movie is a total waste of time and money. Stay away! The characters and their perspectives seem to be plucked straight from the mind of an old Conservative malayalee father who can't stand the sight of his daughter's personal freedoms.

Half Cooked Meal !

If you are expecting a "Vellimoonga"kind of movie here, then you will be utterly disappointed like me. "Aadya Ratri" has a very loose script with some humor here and there; Felt the movie was made in a rush with a half baked script..

But why???

Is there such shortage of actresses in malayalam industry? Why on the world did they cast this little kid as heroine in this film. She is better doing roles which match her age. Coming to the film, its reharse of many films we have seen before. Only positive here is biju menon. Avoid at all costs!!

One-Line Review: Aadya Rathri (5 Stars)

Jibu Jacob's ambitious comic caper Aadya Rathri (First Night) about a marriage broker who is against romance manages to stay afloat with a bunch of jokes, but in the grand scheme of things, falls flat because of sexism and glorification of revival of old traditions when it comes to matrimony despite Biju Menon's superior performance and his mercuric yet typecast role. TN.

Average movie with some jokes.

When the people who gave us Vellimoonga teams up again, definitely our expectations will be definitely high. Truth is Aadya Rathri is a disappointment. Very old-fashioned story and really bad casting makes it bad. Some jokes were good. But the gap between those were really wide. Anaswara Rajan looks too young for the role. And her dialogue delivery is too bad. Same with Sarjano Khalid. Manoharan was safe in the hands of Biju Menon. Somehow, Aju Varghese's character felt like a misfit. Sadly, cinema is not Manoj Guinnes's cup of tea. It's a one time watchable movie.

Laughter is the best medicine

"Aadya Rathri" Malayalam movie Mullakara village on the banks of the lake, it's people, their livelihood and their one and only Manoharan cheettan... That's the one line story, of this comedy drama. If laughter is the best medicine... get ready, wear your comedy cap and prepare yourself for some 'belly-shaking' laughs.... and live longer.. (Maybe). As in 'Vellimoonga, Aanakkallan and Anuraagha Karikkin Vellam' , Biju Menon has enacted his comical stunts to perfection and carried this presentation to success. Biju as Manoharan, is enjoyable, the situational comedies, the timing of the counter dialogues.. all are rib tickling. 8 on 10 for this society satire. A serious message is conveyed, about marriage... 'Consent of the girl is more important than the dowry, during the wedding' Manoharan as the marriage broker, steals the show, with ease. Many comical dialogues are borrowed from other movies, but apt for that situations. Forget about your tensions, just laugh your gut out for 122 minutes... You will feel refreshed.. (Maybe)

Full Timepass

No dull moments and some random scenes can be forwarded without missing anything.. The last 30 seconds has the best punchline ever seen in Malayalam movies.. Extra points for that closing scene.
