Tanguy, le retour

Out of inspiration

In France, consecutively to the first opus directed by Étienne Chatiliez in 2001, the first name Tanguy has become a well-known antonomase. Example of conversation in the real life: "He still lives with his parents?! He is such a Tanguy!". And since 2001, no new parents dare naming their son Tanguy, because of the eponymous movie. The statistics are formal: this first name is henceforth almost cursed!

Anyway, nearly two decades later, we regain the same hard core with Sabine Azéma (the mother), André Dussollier (the father) and Éric Berger (our national Tanguy). The first half is extremely slow and laborious: the audience in the movie theater was depressed with Tanguy, in symbiosis. Although the second half is slightly better, this movie is globally less funny/caustic than the first one. Small disappointment despite a ...very long!.. expectation.

Painfully unfunny

This one was painful to watch. Meant as a sequel to the original and funny Tanguy this movie lacks a script, jokes, decent acting. It's tedious, the characters are bland and lots of elements barely make sense (e.g. the father's bladder problems, which are repeated throughout six times come to no conclusion whatsoever...). Avoid at all cost!
