Brockhampton founder Kevin Abstract has shared his third studio album, Blanket, out now via Video Store/RCA Records, it marks his first solo LP since the group announced an indefinite hiatus early last year.
To record Blanket, Abstract linked up with fellow Brockhampton member Romil Hemnani and multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham, the latter of whom is best known for working on Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red.
In a statement, Abstract named the rock bands that influenced the project. “I wanted to make, like, a Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, Modest Mouse type of record,” he said. “But I wanted it to hit like a rap album.” To help him achieve that sound, he tapped an appropriate crew of guest performers including folk singer-songwriter Kara Jackson, shredder Mj Lenderman, Scottish rock group Pilot, and Abstract’s returning collaborator Roy Blair.

This year for our "thankful for" column we're mixing it up a bit. Instead of asking our contributors to share a brief list of favourite things, I wanted to share with you, dear readers, why I love the team so and then ask them a few key questions so you can get to know them better. Nick Taylor.
Nick has been with us for about two years, and we first got to know him because he regularly voted and wrote up beautiful emails for the Smackdown. Since joining us he's looked at supporting actresses that weren't nominated. Some of our favourites include the Evil Witch in Snow White, Taraji P Henson in Hustle & Flow, and Sister Ruth in Black Narcissus. But he also pops in for contemporary festivals.
Our mini interview follows...
When did you first fall in love with the movies?
I've been into movies my whole life.
