Jason Statham’s action-thriller Homefront from 2013 is making its way to streaming, giving fans a chance to revisit one of his most underrated films.
Starting April 18, 2025, Tubi subscribers can watch Homefront, a gripping revenge-driven action film written by none other than cinema icon and original Rocky writer Sylvester Stallone. Based on Chuck Logan’s novel of the same name, the story follows Phil Broker (Statham), a former DEA agent who moves to a quiet Louisiana town with his daughter, hoping for a peaceful life. However, when he clashes with local drug kingpin Gator Bodine, played by Spider-Man's James Franco, Broker is forced back into action to protect his family from a dangerous criminal underworld. The film also features standout performances from Kate Bosworth as Gator’s volatile sister, Creature Commandos' Frank Grillo as a brutal antagonist and Stranger Things' Winona Ryder in a surprising turn as his shady accomplice. Back in 2019, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be writing, directing, and executive producing Generation Z, a “hilarious, frightening, and political” series that would consist of six hour-long episodes that would “mix flesh-eating zombies into a story that satirizes how Brexit has divided the UK.” That project didn’t make it into production when it was originally supposed to because of the pandemic shutdown… but after making Meg 2: The Trench (you can read our review at This Link and check out our interview with the filmmaker Here), Wheatley circled back around to Generation Z. The show started airing on Channel 4 last October… and now, it has been confirmed that it will not get a second season.

Channel 4 has axed Ben Wheately’s zombie comedy horror Generation Z after one season.
The network is understood to have had high hopes for the show and it was touted at the Edinburgh TV Festival, but it garnered middling reviews and failed to break out.
Starring British heavyweights like Sue Johnston and Robert Lindsay and produced by The Forge, the comedy horror started with an army truck overturning outside a care home in the fictional town of Dambury. The subsequent chemical leak seems to turn the old residents into zombies, who attack younger people from the town. Intended as something of a rumination on modern times, Channel 4 had described Generation Z as “about intergenerational justice and community breakdown that boldly satirizes a world where truth is stranger than fiction, exploring not just the political fault lines in our society but also the very real issues facing teenagers today.”

Action movie icon Jason Stathamis used to being able to punch his enemies into submission. But what if his enemy is a giant prehistoric monster? While he may have faced down several fellow action stars bigger than him, such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vin Diesel, 2018’s The Meg throws the actor and martial artist into the jaws of a massive shark, with audiences loving the match-up as the movie makes a splash on streaming.

Spoiler Alert: Don't get stung — this article contains signposted spoilers for The Beekeeper.
Some buzzy news for your Friday morning! Following the global box office success of last year's David Ayer and Jason Statham action thriller The Beekeeper, The Stath's assassin-turned-apiarist-turned-assassin-again Adam Clay is set to make a busy (probably murderous) bee of himself once again in Miramax's The Beekeeper 2. And what's more, per Deadline's reporting, Indonesian action filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto is making a beeline for the director's hotseat and will be the man calling the shots on the upcoming sequel.
We know vanishingly little about what The Beekeeper 2, penned by the first movie's scribe Kurt Wimmer, will entail at this point, but we do know that cameras are due to start rolling on the sequel — which is sure to have a, er, sting in its tale — before the year is through. And while Ayer won't be at the helm for the follow-up,...

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation,...

Last year, we learned that, forty-nine years after playing a major role in the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (and fourteen years after making an appearance in Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D), Richard Dreyfuss had been cast in another film that promises to be packed with aquatic thrills, Vigilante Diaries director Christian Sesma’s Into the Deep. The film received a digital, On Demand, and limited theatrical release last Friday, and will be getting a DVD and Blu-ray release in the UK on February 3rd. To promote these releases, a clip from the film has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above. Dreyfuss got attacked while in a cage in Jaws, and this clip shows Into the Deep‘s version of a cage attack.

Max continues to be the place for Jason Statham fans to get their fix. The platform is already the home of Meg 2: The Trench, Homefront and Death Race, and, come February 1, they’ll be unearthing yet another Statham classic: Mechanic: Resurrection. What do you get when you mix a hunky Englishman, a badass female action hero, and two Academy Award winners? Well, in this very specific case, you end up with a high-octane thriller helmed by Dennis Gansel. With a 31% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie might fall behind Statham’s higher scoring works like Spy, Furious 7 and The Bank Job, but it should still be in any Statham-lover’s queue when it works its way onto HBO’s streamer next month.

Jason Statham is a well-known veteran of the action genre. Having made his film debut back in 1998 with Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as the con man, Bacon, Statham has, since then, gone on to star in a plethora of roles which have made him a true action hero. Although much of Statham's acclaimed work has seen the actor in primarily action-centered roles, such as the widely popular Transporter franchise and more recent films, including The Beekeeper and Wrath of Man, Statham has also dabbled in projects that combine action with science fiction.
The 2018 science fiction action film The Meg is one such project. Directed by Jon Turteltaub and loosely finding inspiration from the 1997 novel, 'Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror' authored by Steve Alten, the film is regarded by many viewers as being truly bonkers. In bleak and troubled times, sometimes all it takes is seeing Jason Statham scowling in a hardhat to make it feel like maybe everything will be okay in the end after all. And that's exactly what we get in the no fuss, no muss first trailer for A Working Man, the Stath's latest team-up with The Beekeeper director David Ayer. Boasting a screenplay co-written by Ayer alongside action icon Sylvester Stallone, this one — surely the second in what will come to be known as The Three (Blue) Collars Trilogy — sees Stath play brilliantly named ex-black ops agent Levon Cade, whose humble construction worker life is upended when his boss' daughter goes missing. If it sounds like an old-school action dust-up waiting to happen, then it looks like one too — and a darn tasty one at that. Just check out the trailer below:

“Jason Statham Becomes One of the Most Reliable Action Stars of the 2020s” might not have been on anyone’s bingo card of film industry predictions at the end of 2019, but it appears to be shaping out that way.
The “Transporter” star has enjoyed a career renaissance in recent years, leading the 2023 shark sequel “Meg 2: The Trench” to nearly $400 million at the global box office before teaming up with David Ayer for the ridiculous (and ridiculously fun) action thriller “The Beekeeper.” Now, Amazon MGM hopes that the pairing of Ayer and Statham can produce even more box office gold after with reunion movie “A Working Man.”

Jason Statham has become one of the biggest action stars of his generation. His name is synonymous with several major action franchises, including The Expendables and the Fast and Furious franchises. In addition to his supporting roles in those megahit series, Statham has been the lead in several major franchises, including The Transporter, the Crank movies, and the modern duology The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench. Many of these films have succeeded both in theaters and on streaming.
While his career is chock-full of films overall, Statham is not without his gap periods. 2023, for example, was huge for the actor, as it saw the release of three franchise entries: The Expendables 4, Meg 2: The Trench, and Fast X. Jason Statham is the darling of streaming right now, and another of his decade-old action thrillers is back on top with the 2008 heist movie The Bank Job holding a strong position near the top of the Starz global movie chart. Led by the ever-popular Brit and directed by Roger Donaldson, the plot centers on a real-life 1971 robbery that took place in London and has baffled authorities for decades and is the perfect vehicle for Statham, even if he doesn’t get to go vigilante this time around.
Being inspired by true events, the film was a more intriguing title in Statham’s catalog of gangster movies and no-brainer action flicks, and that seemed to help it become a box office success and made it one of Statham’s most underrated and overlooked performances. At the end of the 1980s, there was something in the water in Hollywood. Audiences experienced a tsunami of sci-fi horror films that were hard to tell apart from Alien, save for their aquatic setting: Leviathan, The Abyss, DeepStar Six, The Rift, and Lords of the Deep all arrived between 1989 and early 1990. It may look like a simple case of competition, but working out which film came first — and why they all came at once — is no easy task.
Unsurprisingly, James Cameron's Oscar-winner The Abyss came out on top at the box office and with the critics, but it wasn't necessarily due to its originality. These five features have oddly repetitive plots involving miners and military missions, science experiments and submarines, and monsters and aliens. While some filmmakers copped to competing with the others, many claimed ignorance of the underwater arms race — but the trend may have started with a best-selling book.

Jason Statham has taken on a lot of legendary foes and enemies over the years, and one of his most deadly opponents came just last year, but to no one’s surprise, he still came out on top. Statham stars alongside Cliff Curtis in Meg 2: The Trench, the 2023 kaiju thriller that grossed a whopping $397 million at the worldwide box office, with over $300 million of the earnings coming from international markets. Meg 2: The Trench has become a global streaming hit over the last few weeks, reaching the #9 spot on Prime Video’s chart. Earlier this year, we learned that, forty-nine years after playing a major role in the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (and fourteen years after making an appearance in Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D), Richard Dreyfuss had been cast in another film that promises to be packed with aquatic thrills, Vigilante Diaries director Christian Sesma’s Into the Deep. The film is set to receive a digital, On Demand, and limited theatrical release on January 24th – and with that date just one month away, a trailer has arrived online! The end of the year is not something to celebrate for Jason Statham fans, as Dec. 31 may be a rather unfortunate day for fans of the action movie actor who are subscribed to Netflix.
As per Netflix, Dec. 31 will mark the last day Statham's The Mechanic and Redemption are available to stream on the platform. Both movies are considered favorites for many fans of the actor. The Mechanic, released in 2011, served as a remake of the 1972 movie starring action genre legend Charles Bronson. Statham's version earned over $76 million at the box office upon release, and despite its initial mixed reviews, the movie has come to a place where it's fondly celebrated by fans as one of the action star's underrated films. It spawned a sequel in 2016's Mechanic: Resurrection, which was a box office hit with over $125 million earned, though

Jason Statham has made a name for himself in the action genre, and his films grossed millions of dollars at the box office. Although the British actor is usually typecast in the action-thriller genre, one of his underrated sci-fi films has become a new hit on streaming platforms.
In 2008, Statham starred in Death Race, which was a remake of the 1975 classic Death Race 2000. The sci-fi, high-octane action thriller has recently switched platforms, and it's already a hit on social media, taking over the Top 10 and positioning itself in the eighth position, ScreenRant reports. The film bested Megamind and Ninja Assasin, making a strong debut on the streaming platform.

Action movie legend Jason Statham's 2008 sci-fi thriller impresses on its new streaming debut, just four days after switching platforms. Statham shot to fame when he was cast in the role of Bacon in Guy Ritchie's directorial debut, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and paired with him again for a leading role in Snatch. The critical and commercial success of the movies led to him starring in The Transporter trilogy and movies like Crank, The Italian Job remake, Hummingbird, and Safe, further cementing him as one of Hollywood's leading action stars.
Statham has continued to carve out a niche in the action-thriller genre, with a few showings against type, such as a supporting role in the romantic drama London, and a memorable co-starring turn in the action-comedy Spy. Roboshark is now streaming on Prime Video. If you have not heard of the movie, there is probably a good reason for that. If you have heard of it, why are you looking to return there again? Yes Roboshark is exactly what it sounds like, a SyFy special that comes from the “so bad its really bad” category that so many Shark-sploitation films fall into. Now, Prime Video are hosting the absurd movie, so anyone missing a dose of brainless, bad-cgi nonsense can get their fix.
First airing in 2015 on SyFy during Shark Week, Roboshark has an appearance by a shark that has been - surprise! - robotically enhanced after eating an alien probe. The Meg franchise has put some high expectations on what Megalodons were like in real life, and, as might be expected, the Jason Statham action movies get a few things wrong. The Meg and The Meg 2 are based on the books of the same name by Steve Alten, a series of increasingly absurd and unbelievable, but admittedly fun, novels. The first The Meg premiered in 2018 and the sequel arrived in 2023. In both films, Jason Statham plays Jonas Taylor, a deep-sea rescue diver who always ends up on the wrong end of a giant, murderous shark.
Among the many absurdities in The Meg is the design of its central villain. The "Meg" of the title is shorthand for "Megalodon", an ancient fish that used to patrol the world's oceans for 13 million years, before going extinct around the late Pliocene Epoch (via Nhm). On November 22, 2024, Jason Statham's irresistibly amusing killer shark B-movie The Meg was added to Prime Video in time for the holidays. A so-bad-its-good cinematic gift that keeps on giving, The Meg took a large bite out of its box office competition in 2018, spawning the 2023 sequel, Meg 2: The Trench. In 2025, Statham may reprise his role as Jonas Taylor in The Meg 3: Black Water, which will surely increase the absurd acrobatics and death-defying action scenes.
Marked by a playfully morbid humor, The Meg is a must-see for Statham action movie fans. The crowd-pleasing commercial hit may be best known for Statham getting into a ludicrous fistfight with a shark underwater, but there are still plenty of laugh-out-loud moments to balance the exhilarating shark-hunting action. With The Meg now swimming in Prime Video's streaming waters, breaking down the best and worst moments will help preview the franchise's future.

Li Bingbing does not return in Meg 2: The Trench, leaving fans to wonder how Suyin died after The Meg. The sequel sees Jason Statham's Jonas Taylor return to action and fighting megalodons several years after the events of the original movie. Meg 2: The Trench revolves around a core group of characters that are mostly returnees from the first movie, as Meiying, Mac, and DJ are back together and joined by a few new faces. That made Suyin's omission all the more glaring.
Though there are several missing characters in Meg 2, the biggest absence comes with Li Bingbing's Suyin not appearing in Meg 2. She was alive at the conclusion of the last movie and positioned to be a romantic interest for Jason Statham moving forward. The cast of The Meg was a big reason for the shark movie's box office success when it was released back in 2018. A loose adaptation of the book, Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten, the film follows a group of scientists who encounter a 75-foot-long Megalodon shark while on a rescue mission to save a trapped research station called the Mana. Posing a threat to both the scientists and the people on land, Jason Statham's Jonas Taylor and his team must face off against this gigantic beast in a confrontation that is equally silly and entertaining.
At the time, The Meg was the most expensive shark movie ever made (via THR). While the film received mixed reviews, that investment paid off as it earned $529 million at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), a large part of that coming China, where the film is most popular.

Jason Statham's $75 million sci-fi action movie remake is getting a new streaming home in December. Earlier in 2024, Statham enjoyed one of his biggest box office successes in years, when his politically charged, John Wick-inspired action film The Beekeeper unexpectedly took in $152 million worldwide. Statham may now have a new franchise on his hands, as director David Ayer has hinted that The Beekeeper 2 could happen.
Statham has been a reliable action stalwart for years, thanks to films like The Beekeeper, as well as high-profile projects like The Meg and Fast & Furious, and more cult-friendly fare like Crank and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The star indeed boasts a long filmography filled mostly with action-packed titles, many of which are available on streaming platforms, allowing for at-home exploration of every nook and cranny of Statham's lengthy resume.

Jason Statham has starred in many action movies over the course of his career, carving a path for himself as one of Hollywood's most reliable and recognizable faces within the genre. He rarely steps outside his comfort zone, remaining firmly planted in the action genre. In recent years, Statham has made the transition to producing some of his own projects, which gives him a much bigger role in the film's behind-the-scenes creation. Many of Statham's upcoming movies will also be produced by the actor.
Producing a movie is completely different from starring in it, and this transition marks a huge change in the trajectory of Statham's career. Having much more creative sway over his films is clearly a good thing as nobody understands the appeal of a Jason Statham movie quite like the actor himself. His recent track record of producing films has gone fairly well, proving that he's up to the task.

Now that Under Paris is getting a sequel, Jason Stathams blockbuster The Meg franchise finally has some competition as the twenty-first centurys biggest shark horror series. The Megs 2018 success came as something of a surprise in a summer packed with blockbuster hits. The same year that Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Venom, Deadpool 2, and Aquaman dominated the box office, a killer shark movie with one A-list star that spent almost three decades in development hell earned over $500 million. Similarly, Netflixs shark horror Under Paris was a surprise sleeper hit when the low-budget French disaster movie was released.

Ben Wheatley, the British indie filmmaker, somewhat rests on the periphery of the British film industry. Neither a social realist nor a James Bond action filmmaker, Wheatley seems more a forerunner of films like that from Robert Eggers. Wheatley, alongside his wife and screenwriter Amy Jump, has made a selection of diverse films, consistently inverting and manipulating genre tropes and playing with audience expectations. In some way or another, all of Wheatley’s work focus on varying oddball and sociopathic central characters who find honesty and loyalty hard to come by. While mixing scares, gore, and trippy action, Ben Wheatley deftly imbues each film with a dark comedy, underlying each situation with a satire and wit that has become a staple throughout his work.

In the 21st-century era of film, Jason Statham's name has become ubiquitous with the action genre. His first franchise film came only four years into his feature film career, when he played protagonist Frank Martin in the 2002 film The Transporter. This kickstarted the action sequels Transporter 2 in 2005 and Transporter 3 in 2008. He continued his franchise streak with Crank in 2006. Now, Statham is known for many other action franchises, including the Expendables movies.
As much as the actor's filmography displays his strength within the action genre, however, it also shows that not all action franchises are created equally. The sci-fi action film is loosely based on Steve Alten's 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, and had Jon Turteltaub as director from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber. Jason Statham movies have been known to perform extraordinarily well on streaming and oftentimes at the box office as well. The latest example of the latter is Meg 2: The Trench, which scored an abysmal 27% score from critics and 73% from general audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but the movie still earned nearly $400 million at the worldwide box office, including $315 million from overseas. One of Statham's more recent hits, Wrath of Man (2021), which is currently not streaming anywhere, will begin streaming for free on Tubi on November 1. The one-person-army action flick also stars Holt McAllany and Josh Hartnett and currently sits at a 68% score from critics and a 90% rating from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and this year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation, and an untitled Trey Edward Shults film that will co-star The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.

Jason Statham's most fun film in years, The Beekeeper, has proven just as popular with audiences on streaming as it did with critics and moviegoing audiences. After a packed 2023 where Statham appeared in major Hollywood blockbusters like Expend4bles, Fast X, and Meg 2: The Trench, which between them made around $1.13 billion worldwide, The Beekeeper quickly swarmed to a total of around $75 million globally after its January 12 release, eventually buzzing up to a total of $152.7 million. Now, with the movie on Prime Video for streaming, figures have revealed that The Beekeeper is actually the third most popular movie on Amazon for the year 2024 to date.
