Well done

I don't know much about the Constantine character apart from the old Keanu Reeves movie which I saw a long time ago (and liked) and an appearance in Justice League Dark. I never watched the TV show or animated series.

Having said that, I thought this movie was good. It is adult themed, which fits the story, and apart from one odd way of sharing memories between Constantine and another character, I don't think the adult nature was over done.

It was well paced, had interesting characters and stakes, and surprisingly carried emotional weight at the end and showed what a toll this life takes on the titular character.

All in all, I was impressed. DC continues its record of well made animated features.

Good comic book movie and good example what's been missing.

This is a great movie for people who grew up loving superheroes/comic book characters and learned a lot about life from them. Where the story was about about defeating an evil, learning that the strongest of us can overcome the dark, and gives an important moral message of how far love and friendship in life can go. Shows the burden of the hero and the sacrifices they make in order to make the world a better place, even if it means it won't be for them.

I may be too sentimental or dramatic, but it's been a long time since a comicbook movie made me feel good and the message received at the end of it, was a reminder of why I fell in love with comics and their characters in the first place. No political message. No hidden agenda being masked behind loved characters. Just a movie about John Constantine and how he makes the world safer without wanting recognition for it. A good man at heart and one who battles more of his own demons, than the true ones he sends to hell.

It's got the action, the mystery, the humor, the drama, and positive message missing from so many movies today. Hopefully for more movies like this in the future.

Most faithful adaption of Constantine yet

That's a mini review about the movie, not the tv show (even if the show is part of the movie). I watched the film yesterday which contained the first 5 episodes of the animated show and took them further into a full, completed story.

I don't blame people who didn't like the show since the episodes were ridiculously short (only 5 minutes each) but the film is a different story. Matt Ryan shines once again as Constantine with good support from the rest of the cast. The story is probably the darkest story I've seen in an animated film and there are many shocking scenes and surprises. As I mentioned in the title, this is undoubtedly the best adaption of John Constantine. The character is actually a damaged character, haunted from his past, trying to find some purpose in life (at least that's how the original Hellblazer presented him to us) and the film captures that perfectly.

I liked the live action series, I loved the Justice League Dark film but City of Demons goes even deeper and gives us the darkest and more mature animated film/series in the DC Universe. Highly recommended.

Quite good...

I am not particularly familiar with the Constantine character, as I never got into the comic books. But as I happened to stumble upon this 2018 animated movie, of course I opted to sit down and watch it.

Writer J. M. DeMatteis actually put together a rather good and interesting script and storyline for director Doug Murphy to bring to the screen. I have to admit that I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 90 minutes that the movie ran for. It was a dark and violent storyline, so this is hardly suitable for a younger audience.

With "Constantine: City of Demons" being an animated movie, of course having a good voice acting cast ensemble is important. And they definitely had that here. I didn't recognize any of the voices initially, but it was nice to see the names of Kevin Michael Richardson and Robin Atkin Downes on the cast list, as I perused IMDb to check who voiced the various characters.

Visually then I will say that the art style used in "Constantine: City of Demons" was good. It was a very fitting drawing and art style used for the animated movie, and it complimented the atmosphere of the dark storyline quite nicely. Plus, the animation itself was also quite good.

Without being very familiar with the John Constantine character, I will admit that "Constantine: City of Demons" proved to be an entertaining watch nonetheless.

My rating of "Constantine: City of Demons" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

Happy meal

Hey

November 25th 2023

Genre:

Occult, Satanism, Superhero, Animation.

Duration:

Soild hour and a few minutes

Suitable for children:

No. Children could not handle some of the scenes. Very graphic for them maybe.

What was Constantine about?:

Constantine a satanist magician must seek demons in order to save a friend's daughter from Hel.

The story and the production overview:

Interesting piece of work. It's like a hand knit quilt.

It's uniquely placed together for a pretty good film.

I do drift off in some scenes but overall it was a solid animation done very well without the Bat.

The Full production was flawless. It felt like I was watching a live action.

Highlight:

Dr. Strange Actor reference.

Moral:

Stand clear of the bargain.

Rating:

Liked it

Final words:

Devil lived.

Constantine is always great

This movie gripped me whole time. Best part is twist in last minutes. It was great, now just plain action. At last Matt Ryan is always best suited in John's character. I wish WB will continue to re-live this horror-thriller genere in future also. Love from an Indian.

Providing a paranormal experience

The 2018 R-rated animated film Constantine: City of Demons - The Movie, or just Constantine: City of Demons, is based on the DC character John Constantine. This is a synopsis of the film:

The occult detective John Constantine is plagued by an old error. In an attempt to preserve his friend's daughter's soul, Constantine returns to the realm of demons and black magic after she enters an enigmatic coma. Along the journey, he meets a variety of people, such as an angel, an enigmatic nurse, and even an Aztec god.

Critics gave the film positive reviews overall, praising the eerie and moody images, the voice acting (especially Matt Ryan's return to his role from the live-action Constantine series), and the fidelity to the original work. The plot could occasionally be predictable, according to certain assessments.

Some viewers may find the plot formulaic, and not all audiences may be appropriate for R-rated content.

Outstanding

The twelfth entry in the DC Animated Movie Universe and the 34th overall entry in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Originally premiered as a web series and later released as a feature-length film on DVD and Blu-ray.

A much darker tone than the rest of the films. Solid animation, outstanding voice cast, fantastic direction and a well written engaging screenplay.

And another reason to hate him

Good Griff this just keeps getting better and better, just with every intro of John comes chaos, and people suffer cause of him.

That's just another deadass reason his sole existence is all about.

But I guess I enjoyed my self.

A great Constantine animated movie

Constantine: City of Demons is a violent, gory and very atmospheric horror and adventure fantasy adult animated film. The movie is full of interesting characters (mostly demons) besides John Constantine. I loved particularly Nightmare Nurse and Angela! There is some dark humor, but also a lot of pure good-quality horror, with several remarkable situations, places and creatures. It is an animated DC Comics movie that engages spectator throughout the story, until the bright ending. The portrayal of Los Angeles was very innovative. Good script and nice animation constitute a formidable combination.

There's Always A Price

John Constantine a trench coat occult detective now gets involve helping an old friend to free his daughter from a coma due to demonic possession. Seeking answers to Los Angeles instead encountered with his nightmare past. Movie delevs deep into psychological & supernatural realms of Dcau. It's more Dark, mature, gritty than other entrys. Blending with horror, magic, & emotional trauma. Which greatly presents its noir & dreary aspects. But by stitching the plot from a series some pace, cohesion suffers. Which leads to uneven storytelling making transitions fell episodic rather cinematic. And theme of violence, gore & brutality might be too intense & excessive at times but cements horror edge. Visuals setting is slick stylized with effective use of light & dark. Also Matt's Performance captures snark, grit, pain by his emotional & faithful portrayal. But characters like Asa, Angela were lacking depth by thin writing. Action & fights was solid brief there could've been more sequence. Moreover, Trish's tragedy, Constantine's guilt, and Chas's pain often feels undercooked. Film wants to be shocking, heart-wrenching, but rather leans on brutality. Overall, It's a good watch if your fan of constantine or hardcore, shocking, violence.

Good stuff ! Need more

It's really one the best outing for Constantine ! Superb animation a bit over the top gore but really like how his character is shaping up. And it looks promising too, he shaping up to be an important character in the larger scheme of things. Looking forward for more movies on him and would like Zatanna with him too and her own movie of course.

One simply just can't hate John Constantine

I have said this already in one of my other reviews but i'll gladly say it again... John Constantine is such a well-made character in all aspects, even his damn british accent fits so well. What this guy lacks in power, he more than makes up for in brains.

Anyways, enough about the character, let's get into the movie. "Constantine: City of Demons" evolves around John Constantine and his best friend Chas who are on a mission to save Chas's daughter, Trish from a demon. They run into lots of trouble underway. It's a fun premise and executed brilliantly. I loved especially the goryness of it all, especially the hell scene, that was creepy in its own right. Definitely recommended.

What a movie. Amazing. Masterpiece. A very powerful movie. Great story. With great characters. Especially John Constantine and Asa. John Constantine I hope to see him soon at DCEU. A very fun movie. And an unspeakable visual masterpiece. The plot was good.

The best adaptation of Constantine so far

When I first watch it I don't enjoy it very much since I'm not used to this much violence in DCAU film (In that times) but after I watch Justice League Dark : Apokolyps war and I rewatch this flim, I have to admit that there's a lot I missed out.

First..this movie really did Constantine right if you actually know about him more now. This movie portrays his backstory so well, as much as his character and his mental mindset. He is the Constantine I want to see, it's like he jumps out of the comics, his accent and his power..including his fighting style. I like the way he defeated the main villain, I like the way how story ends. It's dark, it's mysterious as it should be.

The atmosphere is on point, the dialogue is great. The action maybe not that sparked since his fighting style is all about witty and con but overall it gives us excitement.

It should be more Constantine animation in this style. I love Matt Ryan as his voice actor and I love this animation styles. It's classic, it's dark and mature. I really want more of this.

Great for Halloween

I got a solid Halloween vibe throughout the movie, but I'm not complaining. There were some strange or awkward scenes, but overall still an interesting movie.

I will always love Matt Ryan as Constantine.

Awesome!

This movie is amazing, or as John would say, bloody amazing! I loved the tv series, but i would say that this is even better. So far, this is the best Constantine adaptation that i have watched.

The movie is pretty brutal, full of gore and amazing art direction, and it has Matt Ryan back as Constantine. I loved the movie with Keanu, but i have to say that Matt is the best Constantine.

The movie answers some questions from the tv series, and it's a non stop action fest all the way.

At The Bottom of My DC Animated Movie Rankings.

DC fans typically like that DC is darker than Marvel, but this is dark on a whole other level. I think most people would agree that it is a bit much. The violence and gore is extreme and even disturbing at times. The material was too dark and depraved to be enjoyed by me, but even the story was not all that interesting. I was quite bored and due to the unpleasant nature of this movie, it is the only DC animated movie that I started and didn't watch 100% of. I was ready to move on from the demonic and get back to superheroes vs supervillains.

Constantine eventually did a quite good job.

The concepts and the delectation was good. Truth be told, I don't have great feelings for this but it's worth the watch. It was thrilling, creating and above all deserves a watch.
