Investigating The Investigators Of Elsbeth Season 2: Where Have We Seen These Detectives Before?
Image
When it comes to police procedurals, keeping things fresh and exciting is the key to success. Many shows try numerous tactics, but CBS‘s Elsbeth has created a unique advantage for itself.

As the series comes to the halfway point of its sophomore season, it’s fair to say there are endless guest appearances. Something that has indeed worked in the show’s favor.

Fans of Elsbeth have more than become accustomed to the revolving door of detectives.

(Michael Parmelee/CBS)

While we will likely still have more new faces down the road, we at least have a core group of investigators.

Now that a good handful of the detectives are buddying up with Elsbeth, it’s about time we get familiar with some of these wildly different but equally entertaining sleuths.

Why Timothy Hutton Isn't In The Leverage Reboot, Redemption
Image
Timothy Hutton's role in Leverage: Redemption was written out due to serious rape allegations against him. Leverage: Redemption continued successfully without Nate Ford, focusing on other key characters from the original series. Hutton is in a legal battle with the studio for $3 million and has had limited acting roles post-controversy, including a minor role in Women of the Movement.

Contains discussion of sexual assault allegations and subsequent legal proceedings.

Leverage returned in 2021 with the revival Leverage: Redemption, but Timothy Hutton's Nate Ford was missing. 2008's Leverage ran for five seasons and united a band of criminals under Nate’s leadership to con the wealthy and corrupt. Although the team first formed as a way for Nate to get revenge on his old company for his son’s death, Leverage quickly grew beyond his vendetta, positioning the revival to continue without him after recent allegations made Tim Hutton’s continued role impossible.

SXSW Film Review: Mo McRae’s ‘A Lot Of Nothing’
Image
Racial divides, mistrust and misunderstandings get a rambunctious, if understandably inconclusive workout in A Lot of Nothing, a dynamic and agitating feature debut by Mo McRae that had its world premiere at South by Southwest in the Narrative Feature Competition section. Layers of suspicions, animosity and aggressive feelings ebb and flow as an upscale Los Angeles black couple plays host to another couple and, unexpectedly, to a lower-class white cop who’s paying a price for what he did the night before. After a powerful first act, this turbulent work is obliged to downshift somewhat as it seeks some kind of conclusion that won’t be too pat or simplistic given the complex dynamics at hand. While it doesn’t end on a satisfying note, this is nonetheless an excitingly combustible piece that announces a vibrant talent unafraid to confront thorny issues head-on.

Co-written by McRae, who has acted in...

Good Sam Trailer: Sophia Bush and Jason Isaacs Play a Father and Daughter at War for the Or
Sophia Bush
CBS has finally dropped the official trailer for Good Sam, its latest medical drama.

The show finds Dr. Sam Griffith (Sophia Bush) taking on the role of Chief of Surgery when her father, Dr. Rob Griffith (Jason Isaacs), falls into a coma.

The drama picks up when Rob wakes up months later intending to resume his career where he left off.

“Sam is tasked with supervising this egotistical expert with a scalpel who never acknowledged her stellar talent,” reads the official logline for the project.

Sam's father "defies Sam’s authority and challenges her medical expertise, the big question becomes whether this father and daughter will ever be able to mend their own relationship as expertly as they heal the hearts of their patients.”

It is a compelling hook, but the success will all come down to whether the show manages to portray the fraught relationship between the father and daughter well.

Bob Ingersoll
The Law Is A Ass #455: In An “Almost Family” Way
Bob Ingersoll
Okay, here’s the part of our entertainment that no one wants to see; Bob Ingersoll dances.

We’re not talking Bob does a Viennese waltz or trips a light Japanese Chakkirako. I’m not performing any other shaking and shimmying the sight of which would make you want to Polka sharp stick into your eyes. No, I’m dancing my way around certain indelicacies.

Our topic, you see, is the Fox Network TV series Almost Family.

You say you’ve never heard of Almost Family? Wouldn’t surprise me. The show debuted in October of 2019 and performed so poorly that after the original thirteen episodes Fox ordered ran, Fox didn’t want to pick up the back nine. Kind of like how I feel halfway through a round of golf. Almost Family disappeared forever in February of 2020, which proves that something good did happen in 2020.

It was the story of the Bechley family.

Timothy Hutton
Timothy Hutton Will Not Face Criminal Charges for Alleged Sexual Assault
Timothy Hutton
“Leverage” star Timothy Hutton will not face criminal charges stemming from the rape allegations leveled against him by a former child actress last year.

Canadian prosecutors declined to pursue charges against Hutton, citing a lack of evidence in the case. According to Hutton’s attorney, Joshua Rosenberg, the decision was made earlier this month and the actor’s team was informed on July 7.

“Timothy Hutton has officially been cleared by law enforcement of a criminal complaint filed against him,” Rosenberg said in a statement. “The Canadian authorities scrutinized the matter and found a glaring lack of support and proof of Ms. Johnston’s claim.”

Johnston told BuzzFeed last March that in 1983, when she was 14, she and two friends met the then-22-year-old Hutton at a restaurant when the actor was in Vancouver shooting “Iceman.” Johnston said she was asked to join Hutton and his friends back at the actor’s hotel,...

‘Batwoman’: Victoria Cartagena To Play Renee Montoya In Season 3 Of CW Drama
Image
Exclusive: DC hero Renee Montoya is coming to the rescue in Gotham City. Victoria Cartagena has joined the upcoming third season of Batwoman as a new series regular, portraying Renee in the CW drama.

Cartagena’s Montoya is a former Gcpd officer who left the force when she could no longer stomach the corruption inside the department. She now runs the “freaks division,” which hasn’t seen a lot of action… until now. Righteous and pragmatic, and LGBTQ+, she’s a woman with a very personal (and mysterious) mission to help clean the streets of Gotham in the right way, by whatever means necessary.

Cartagena previously played Renee Montoya on Fox’s Gotham, though the universes are not connected.

In the June 27 Season 2 finale, Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) has fully taken up the mantle of Batwoman with Kate Kane leaving Gotham in a search for her long-missing cousin Bruce Wayne...

Megalyn Echikunwoke, Emily Osment, and Brittany Snow in Almost Family (2019)
10-episode series from “Almost Family” creator Annie Weisman premieres June 18

Rose Byrne has no patience for cheese puffs or her husband in the first trailer for Apple TV+’s upcoming 1980s aerobics dramedy, “Physical.”

Set to debut on the streamer on June 18, the 10-episode series stars Byrne as a “quietly tortured” housewife with an acerbic inner monologue, who becomes a rising star in the world of aerobics. “The show tracks her journey from what we see in the pilot, where she sort of crosses this rubicon and discovers this new source of joy and power in her body,” Weisman said at a Television Critics Association panel for the show earlier this year.

Check out the trailer above, and read the full description for the series below.

Set in the idyllic but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego, “Physical” is a half-hour dark comedy following Sheila Rubin (Byrne), a quietly tortured,...
