Just over 15 years after “Reba” closed out its six-season run, “Happy’s Place” creator Kevin Abbott reunited with the sitcom’s team to explore a potential “Reba” reboot series.

“I had actually come up with where the characters were at, where their lives were at [and] what was going to be the dynamic was some new characters,” Abbott told TheWrap, noting that executives were initially “very interested” in the idea. Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Netflix has taken in for development an untitled drama from former A Million Little Things showrunner Terrence Coli, Rabbi and author Steve Leder and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Deadline has learned.

Written by Coli, the untitled project is described as a spiritual procedural about a group of ancient humans who’ve been sent back to Earth with a Heavenly mission: to bring hope to those struggling in their darkest hour and healing to our fractured world.

Coli, Leder and Kaplan executive produce. Kevin Marco is the creative executive for Kapital Entertainment. A rep for Netflix declined comment.

Exclusive: Israeli romcom drama series The Baker and the Beauty is being remade for France’s TF1, with French singer-songwriter Amir Haddad playing the lead in his debut TV role.

Shooting starts this week in Paris on the show, which was remade by ABC in the U.S. several years ago, marking Israeli major Keshet’s first scripted format adaptation in France.

Based on the acclaimed Israeli series from Assi Azar, La Belle et Le Boulanger follows Benjamin Mercier (Haddad) and Louise Meyer (Ludmilla von Claer – L’Apéro), who are opposites. While Louise travels around the world modelling for the biggest name designers and parties into the night, Benjamin is up early preparing baguettes at his family-run bakery. Neil Burger, who last directed Daisy Ridley in the gritty thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter, is jumping into series work with Motorheads, a soapy auto-themed drama for Prime Video.

Motorheads stars Ryan Phillippe as a former NASCAR mechanic who now runs his own auto body shop in a Rustbelt town in Pennsylvania. Peterman, who played Barbra Jean on “Reba,” will star opposite her former costar in a new restaurant-set multicam comedy project, which will be executive produced by McEntire. She will also reunite with “Reba” EPs Mindy Schultheis, Michael Hanel, Kevin Abbott and Julie Abbott, all of whom serve as executive producers for the pilot.

The official logline for the pilot is as follows: “Reba inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.”

Keshet Studios, the U.S. scripted arm of Keshet International, has acquired the U.S. remake rights to the French romantic fantasy thriller series “Vortex” from France TV Distribution.

Based on an original concept by Franck Thilliez, “Vortex” centers on a police captain who stumbles upon a time warp while examining a VR crime scene. He realizes that he can communicate with his lost love, just before her death in 1998. Determined to alter her fate and prevent her murder, Ludovic risks everything, including his life with his new family.

The deal, negotiated by Keshet Studios and Michelle Palant, international sales manager at France TV Distribution, marks Keshet Studos’ first remake deal for a French show.

Israeli surrogacy drama “A Body That Works” has been renewed for a second season.

“A Body That Works” (titled “Goof Shlishi” in Hebrew) was Israel’s highest rating drama of 2023. The series, which stars Rotem Sela (“The Baker and the Beauty”) and “Fauda’s” Lior Raz, tells the story of a couple struggling with infertility who enlist a surrogate.

Season 2 will pick up directly after the last season, with Ellie (Sela) and Ido (Yehuda Levi) separated and co-parenting their son, who was delivered via surrogate Chen (Gal Malka). Raz plays a love interst.

Sela and Malka jointly won Series Mania’s best actress award at last year’s festival for their roles in the series.

All four leads return for the six-episode second season along with the creative team, comprised of director Shay Capon (“The Writer”) and executive producers Shira Margalit and Elad Koperman.

Last year’s top-rated Israeli drama, according to seller Keshet International (Ki), has been acquired by the streamer in Europe, Latin America and the U.S., as well as non-exclusively in Israel. It is the latest boon for the fruitful relationship between Netflix and Israeli networks, which has seen the streamer bring local hits like Shtisel to the world.

Elsewhere, A Body that Works has sold to AMC Networks International in Portugal and Spain, CBC in Canada and Sbs in Australia, while selling in a further 19 territories.

Starring Rotem Sela (The Baker and the Beauty) and Yehuda Levi (Fire Dance) as a childless couple who enlist the help of a surrogate (Gal Malka), the intimate drama – which also stars Lior Raz (Fauda) – stimulated national debate in Israel about fertility, family, and the autonomy of women’s bodies.

Emma Myers has just secured her next big role. After breaking out as fan favorite character Enid Sinclair on the hit Netflix show Wednesday, Myers has reportedly taken the lead role in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, a TV series adaptation from the BBC inspired by the Holly Jackson novel series. Myers, who plays Pip Fitz-Amobi, will be co-starring with Zain Iqbal as Ravi.

“From the moment we announced that A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder was coming to the BBC I know there’s been a huge amount of speculation from fans about who will play Pip and Ravi,” says Fiona Campbell, Controller of Youth Audience, BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, in a statement. “In Emma and Zain we’ve found two actors who embody the characters so perfectly it will feel as though they’ve stepped straight from the pages of Holly’s books on to our screens.

A third “Hocus Pocus” film is officially in the works at Disney+, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production Sean Bailey confirmed to the in a New York Times profile while discussing the company’s upcoming live-action project slate.

The news comes months after Disney+ released a long-awaited sequel to the 1993 cult classic, which saw the return of Bette Midler’s Winifred Sanderson, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sara Sanderson and Kathy Najimy’s Mary Sanderson.

CBS has given the greenlight to Matlock, a reboot of the classic legal drama that originally starred Andy Griffith. The new version of the show will star Kathy Bates as a gender-swapped incarnation of the attorney, taking on the lead role of Madeline Matlock. As Griffith's Ben Matlock had done in the original show, the reboot will similarly see Madeline using her unmatched brilliance to get the upper hand in her cases. After getting its pilot order in February, it's now been announced (per TVLine) that CBS has given the new Matlock an official series order. Keshet Media Group have unveiled their upcoming slate, which includes a new series starring “Fauda’s” Lior Raz.

Raz is set to star alongside Rotem Sela (“The Baker and the Beauty”) and Yehuda Levi (“Fire Dancer”) plus newcomer Gal Malaka in “A Body That Works.” The eight-part drama, titled “Goof Shlishi” in Hebrew, sees a couple hire a surrogate as they seek to have a child.

“[‘A Body That Works’] is an emotionally charged tale of two women and a man, all connected by a bond so powerful they cannot escape one another, even when there is nothing they’d rather do more,” reads the logline. “This is a drama about relationships and parenthood, whose heroes deal with the conflicting desire to become parents alongside the fear parenthood stirs in them. The Anthrax Attacks and Dinosaurs: The Final Day producer BBC Studios Science Unit as named its first Creative Director for UK Unscripted. Emma Lorenz has joined from Wonderhood Studios and will responsible for the domestic creative strategy and growing the unit’s UK slate in documentaries, formats and returning series. The BBC production division is led by Andrew Cohen and Director of Development Nicola Cook. Along with big ticket titles for Netlflix and the BBC, it has produced advertiser-funded programming series Cook Clever, Waste Less with The Great British Bake Off Judge Prue Leith for Channel 4. At Wonderhood, which former Channel 4 CEO David Abraham runs, she was Deputy Creative Director, working on shows such as BBC Three’s Trump in Tweets, Channel 4’s Baby Surgeons: Delivering Miracles, the recent Super Surgeons: A Chance at Life and BBC One’s The Airport: Back in the Skies.

Just about 30 years after the release of Hocus Pocus, the beloved Halloween classic has finally spawned a sequel with Hocus Pocus 2, and it looks to be a huge success for Disney+.

Hocus Pocus 2, which premiered Only on Disney+ this past Friday, has become the #1 film premiere on Disney+ to date, the streaming equivalent to topping the box office charts.

This statistic is based on “hours watched domestically in the first 3 days,” Disney+ notes.

Clearly, audiences across the United States were hungry to see the return of the Sanderson Sisters, with Hocus Pocus 2 making for one of this Halloween season’s first big events. For years those who never found much to love about the original movie have been wondering how big the fanbase really is, and it would seem we now a definitive answer to that question.
