The Hard Way has become a streaming hit on Netflix. The action movie, which follows a soldier gathering some friends to help him seek revenge for the death of his brother in Romania, was released direct-to-vod in 2019 and largely flew under the radar. It didn't even receive enough reviews to earn an official critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences were largely negative toward the release, giving it an 18% score at the time of writing. However, the movie does feature some notable names including The Expendables star Randy Couture and Spawn's Michael Jai White.

WME Independent has boarded the previously announced historical thriller starring Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon, and will launch worldwide sales in Cannes. Nick Meyer’s Sierra Pictures is consulting on sales and distribution.

Exclusive: ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Gangs of London’ star Joe Cole and ‘True Spirit’ and ‘Titans’ actor Teagan Croft have both just wrapped contemporary neo-noir thriller Override, the fourth feature from directing duo Natasha Merkulova and Alexey Chupov. It marks the English-language debut for the Russian helmers, whose Captain Volkonogov Escaped played in Venice’s Competition strand in 2021.

Paris-based sales and production outfit Charades has boarded international sales for title, which was shot in L.A. in March, while AC Independent and WME Independent will co-represent North American rights for the film. The project will be launched to buyers in Cannes next month.

Override, which is currently in post-production, follows Ron Camp (Cole), a 31-year-old taxi driver in L.A. and Becca (Croft), his 16-year-old passenger, as they are plunged into a modern-day nightmare. Unaware of Ron’s identity as a spree killer, Becca becomes entangled in a series of terrifying events.

Bruce Montague, who starred in the Doctor Who audio dramas and Hollyoaks, has died at the age of 83.

The actor’s death was confirmed by his agents at Belfield & Ward, who said in a social media tribute: “We are very sad to report that the glorious Bruce Montague has passed away. Such a gentleman and he will be so sorely missed.

“What a talent and what a career on stage and screen! From Butterfliesto more recently Funny Girl & 42nd St. Rest well darling man! 24/3/39-16/8/22.”

A cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Montague had been a regular fixture on TV since 1963, when he starred in the sci-fi series Dimensions of Fear.

Born in March 1939, Montague’s career spanned almost six decades, with the actor starring in over 300 TV productions.

Disney and Warner Bros. topped the 22nd annual Golden Trailer Awards nominations, announced on Tuesday.

Disney picked up a massive haul of 85 nominations, which includes Walt Disney Motion Pictures, Disney+, National Geographic, Marvel Studios, ABC, Hulu and 20th Century Studios. In addition, it was represented by mentions of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and the Emmy-nominated docu-series “The Beatles: Get Back.”

Warner Media, which includes HBO and HBO Max, landed 67 noms overall. It was represented by “The Batman,” “King Richard,” “The Matrix Resurrections” and the teaser trailer for the upcoming “House of the Dragon.”

Apple TV+ was close behind with 50 noms, followed by Universal Pictures with 48, Netflix with 43 and Amazon with 32. Winners will be announced on Thursday, Oct 6, at The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles with NBC talk show personality Henry Cho hosting.

Didier Lupfer, the former CEO of Studiocanal, has launched the Paris-based production banner The Media Company with a lineup comprising high-concept films and series, including “The Quest of Fire” and “Front Row.”

The outfit is also developing about 10 feature films, including Russian helmer Michael Idov’s “Aspiration,” which is co-produced with Artem Vassiliev at Métrafilms, and thriller “Override,” directed by Dmitry Glukhovsky (“Tekst”).

Lupfer said he was in advanced negotiations with a high-profile U.K. marketing agency to measure the projects’ potential for young adults and collaborate on developing content for specific niches. “The development phase of each project will be as long as it needs to ensure that we can deliver the right content and concepts,” said Lupfer.

Helena Mattsson (American Horror Story), Carla Jimenez (The Mick), Torrance Coombs (The Originals), Juliet Donenfeld (The Big Show Show), Alex Jayne Go (Searching) and Ryan O’Quinn have signed on to star opposite Cain in his debut directorial effort, which is currently in production in Los Angeles.

Little Angels revolves around Jake Rogers (Cain), a Division I college football coach at the top of his game who uses a female placekicker as a publicity stunt. When the player misses a field goal, the coach makes an offhand comment in the media about female athletes and is immediately suspended by the university. In an effort to get his job back, Rogers must coach a 12-year-old girls soccer team for the remainder of the season.
