Many of the divers in the series are played by the real divers who worked on the search for Kim Wall. Also, the dogs which were used in the real search appear.
According to the director Tobias Lindholm, the only demand the parents of Kim had to the director was that the dog of the parents in the series, named Iso, was the real dog of Joachim and Ingrid Wall.
This dramatization of a real-life murder investigation is set in Denmark. Throughout the series the music of Danish national Agnes Obel is embedded in the drama and in the soundtrack, from her albums Philharmonics, Aventine and Citizen of Glass.
