Here’s some extra-sweet news you won’t even hear at Paige’s Bakeaway: Virgin River has begun filming Season 7, and it’s welcoming two new faces.
Two photos from the set, which you can see below, show as production starts on the new batch of episodes — which means finding out what’s next for the beloved Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) as they take the next steps in their relationship. “There’s a lot more to go here with these characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith tells Tudum.
Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) joins the cast as ex-cop Victoria, who was shot in the line of duty and now works for the state medical board as an investigator. Victoria comes to Virgin River to look into Doc’s practice but runs into a friend she wouldn’t mind catching up with … or maybe even pursuing something more.

Virgin River fans, are you prepared for some exciting news?! In case you didn't hear it from Jack Sheridan himself, here's the update you have been waiting all year for: Virgin River season 7 has officially started filming!
Martin Henderson made the announcement himself with a video shared on Instagram on March 12, in which he unboxes a gift from Netflix in his trailer. The streaming service gifted the cast rechargeable hand warmers for those cold filming days in Vancouver, lip balm, face moisturizer, and a miniature suitcase. But it wasn't just about the gifts from Netflix.
In the video, Henderson tells fans that he wants to make Virgin River season 7 "the best season yet" for the fans, since the success of the show all comes down to those who watch. He expresses his excitement to get back to work and his continued gratitude for all the fans who keep tuning in season after season.

Get ready for some more small-town charm and feel-good drama because Virgin River is officially in production for Season 7. Since its debut on Netflix in 2019, the romantic drama has consistently released a season each year, and it looks like the makers are committed to maintaining that schedule. All 10 episodes of Season 6 dropped on the streamer in December 2024, ending with a little cliffhanger that didn't leave much to worry about for the fans, given that Season 7 had already been ordered months ahead of the Season 6 premiere. The latest update comes from the show's star, Martin Henderson, who plays Jack Sheridan, one half of the show's central couple.

It's almost hard to believe that "Virgin River" is among the longest-running series on Netflix, having aired six seasons and been renewed for a seventh, which is likely arriving sometime later this calendar year. But while it may not be the flashiest show that the famed streamer airs, "Virgin River" is a stalwart romantic drama, adapted from the novels by author Robyn Carr. It offers fans plenty of soap-opera-style drama, focused on a vast ensemble beyond leading lady Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and her now-husband Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). From the start, the series has had plenty of storylines separate from how Mel and Jack meet and fall in love. But even if the subplots themselves don't always hit home, "Virgin River" is nothing short of a feast for the eyes when it comes to the show's locations.

When it comes to divisive love interests of morally grey protagonists, AMC surely takes the cake with two of its most lucrative IPs, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. Another thing that links them is the unnecessary hate that Skylar and Lori garnered from their respective fanbases. Much like Skylar, a not-so-small portion of the Twd fanbase loathed Lori with a passion.

In retrospect, similar to Skylar, the hatewagon surrounding Sarah Wayne Callies’s Twd counterpart seems a bit unjust for a variety of reasons.

Charmaine, Charmaine, Charmaine... She's the character Virgin River fans love to hate, and it's been that way from the very beginning. As a foil or "villain" for the main heroes of the Netflix original romantic drama series, she's expertly written and fun to watch. But she's admittedly a character who's hard to root for because she makes a lot of irredeemable decisions, one being lying to Jack about being pregnant with his twin sons. That was a big lie, Charmaine!
In the most recent seasons of Virgin River, Charmaine has mostly been redeemed, though, having finally given birth to her sons and repairing her relationship with those she had lied to (mostly Jack). She's becoming more accepted as a member of the community and settling into motherhood, but that season 6 cliffhanger throws a wrench in her newly peaceful life. Jack enters her home to find the twins — and possibly Charmaine — missing.

Virgin River star Lauren Hammersley just wants to know whether she’s out of a job following the cliffhanger ending of the Netflix drama’s sixth season. Beautiful season,” she texted. “Am I dead?” Smith didn’t give anything away, however. He merely said, “I love you so much.” So Hammersley texted back, “I love you, too! You’re fantastic. Sometimes you know what people are watching on Netflix just by being part of culture. It’s not going to shock anyone to learn that “Squid Game” and the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight were, indeed, hits.
But when you dive further into the streamer’s data, weirder trends begin to emerge.
For example, did you know that in the last six months of 2024, people were all about “Prison Break” and that audiences were watching that nearly 20-year-old Fox series far more than both “Lost” or “Dexter”? Well, now you do.

If you're a Virgin River fan, then it's no secret that you're waiting ever so impatiently for the series to make its way back to your watch list. The success of The Night Agent is apparently not a one-season phenomenon.
The Netflix thriller recorded its biggest week to date with the opening of its second season. The show amassed 3.11 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Jan. 20-26 (season two premiered Jan. 23), according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings, topping its previous best of 3.06 billion minutes in March 2023.

Netflix‘s popular romantic drama Virgin River is preparing for a prequel series, but not all fans are on the same page following showrunner Patrick Smith’s teases about the upcoming spinoff. In an interview with Variety in December, Smith opened up about how the prequel will focus on Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents, Sarah and Everett, played by Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr, respectively. The actors made their debut in flashbacks in Season 6 and are now set to have their romance explored in a series of their own. The spinoff, Smith said, will focus “not just the romance of Sarah and Everett, but also the origins of Virgin River in the 1970s.” However, many fans are unsure whether a spinoff about Mel’s parents is necessary, with one Reddit user writing, “Why are they making a prequel based off Mel’s parents? She’s not even a likable character.

AMC’s The Walking Dead explored the real issues that a group of survivors would face during a zombie apocalypse. Unlike shows like The Last of Us, where there is a larger story and journey to go on, Twd explored how humans fall at moments of chaos and how it gives rise to various forms of societies and groups who want to survive through hook or crook.

Unfortunately, the magic that made the first two seasons so iconic is no longer present, as the premiere introduces a wealth of characters and not enough plot.

We’ll get the elephant out of the room first: Jon Gries’ return as Greg genuinely surprised me.
I audibly gasped when the Winona Ryder-lookalike pointed him out as her boyfriend and said they lived together at the top of the hill in what I can only assume is a mansion.

After spending three weeks at No. 1 on Nielsen’s overall streaming viewership chart, Netflix’s Squid Game has relinquished its crown.
Netflix’s Jamie Foxx-Cameron Diaz thriller Back In Action landed the top spot this week with 1.5 billion minutes viewed, Nielsen said in its weekly update on Thursday. Squid Game fell to No. 4 on the overall streaming chart with 1.25 billion minutes viewed during the Jan. 13-Jan. 19 frame, the most recent week in the data firm’s tally.
Meanwhile, Billy Bob Thornton-starrer Landman kept up its run with 1.05 billion minutes of viewing and represents the only Paramount+ show outside of library title Dexter to chart in the top 5 for this week on either the TV or movies charts.
Speaking of Western-influenced shows, Peter Berg’s American Primeval, which was the top premiere on the streaming chart last week, rose to No. 2 on the overall chart with 1.41 billion minutes viewed.

A devoted Virgin River fan lost a staggering $375,000 over two years after being tricked into believing she was in a relationship with actor Martin Henderson, who plays Jack Sheridan on the Netflix series.
According to the New Zealand Herald, the woman—identified only as Lea—took out loans to cover extravagant costs, including a private jet, fake flights, Bitcoin transfers, and gift cards. She even moved from the U.S. to New Zealand, convinced that she was starting a new life with the actor.
Lea only realized she was being scammed after a friend noticed an article about Henderson participating in a cycling event in Matakana. “I thought, ‘What is Martin doing in New Zealand in Matakana on a bike rally when he told me he was lying in a hospital bed in Johannesburg after a mild heart attack?’” she said.
The deception began when Lea interacted with a Virgin River Facebook fan page.

Are you ready for another season of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix? Well, there's some good and bad news. First, the Netflix original legal drama series has been renewed for a fourth season, which the streamer announced back in January. But the bad news? We might not be catching up with Mickey Haller's case in 2025 as the series seems to have been pushed to 2026.
Last month, Netflix also confirmed its programming slate for the rest of 2025, which includes the high-profile and highly anticipated returns of fan-favorite shows like Stranger Things, Emily in Paris, Nobody Wants This, Monster, and so many more. Along with the 2025 lineup confirmation, Netflix also seemed to confirm which shows won't be released this year based on the list's omissions.
Bridgerton, Outer Banks, and Virgin River were among the most popular shows not included in the 2025, but The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 also wasn't highlighted for release this year.

The season finale of any captivating series is usually the most exhilarating one, but it is often equally devastating as it comes with the realization that the agony of having to patiently wait for the story to continue is back again. It doesn’t get easier, no matter how many seasons a series already has, and one of Netflix’s most beloved romance series is the ultimate proof of that.
Virgin River, which has rapidly become a romance staple on the streaming platform and is seemingly here to stay, was first released in 2019 and already consists of six thrilling seasons. Luckily enough, it has been renewed for a seventh season. However, with the release date still unknown, it is high time to find another feel-good romance series on Netflix.

Authorities in southwestern France are investigating the deaths of Dawn and Andrew Searle, the parents of Scottish actor Callum Kerr, after their bodies were discovered at their home near Villefranche-de-Rouergue on Thursday.
Emergency services first found Dawn Searle’s body outside the couple’s property, with jewelry scattered nearby. Andrew Searle, a retired fraud investigator, was also found deceased at the scene.
The local public prosecutor stated that while the deaths appear violent, the exact circumstances remain unclear. “All hypotheses are currently under consideration,” the prosecutor said, with autopsies scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.
Callum Kerr, known for roles in “Hollyoaks” and “Virgin River,” released a statement on Sunday addressing the tragedy. Speaking on behalf of his family, including siblings Amanda, Tom, and Ella, Kerr requested privacy during their time of mourning.
“We kindly request that our privacy be respected during this difficult period,” the statement read.

The most wonderful time for streaming officially has a date: Dec. 25, 2024. That single day accounted for 51.2 billion minutes of cumulative streaming time, according to Nielsen, making it the most-streamed day of television for the U.S. in the company’s history of measurement.
Streaming represented roughly half of total TV consumption on that day, clocking in at 49.5%.
So what were people watching on Christmas Day? Unsurprisingly, Netflix stole the show. The Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans NFL game was the most-watched event of the day, securing 2.98 billion minutes streamed alone. The Ravens and Texans likely got an assist from Beyoncé, who performed during halftime. That was followed by the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburg Steelers game, which also secured 2.98 billion minutes streamed, though it saw roughly 200,000 fewer streaming minutes than the other game.

Squid Game dominated the streaming charts, though it cooled off a good amount in its third week at No. 1. Landman also peaked following its season finale, and American Primeval had a strong debut.
For the week of Jan. 6-12, Squid Game racked up 2.37 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That’s down by about 48 percent from the previous week — but still almost a billion minutes clear of Landman in second place. Since the Dec. 26 premiere of season two, Squid Game has totaled 11.88 billion minutes of watch time in the United States.
As for Landman, its 1.38 billion minutes for the week leading into its Jan. 12 season finale continued the Paramount+ drama’s streak of improving every week it’s been on. It grew from 1.3 billion minutes a week earlier.
American Primeval, a western from Peter Berg, was the top premiere of the week with 1.25 billion viewing minutes on Netflix.

Having a sexy series can be a tightrope to walk. If the creators overdo it, the show might seem like something we want to watch late-night on old Showtime, but not be artistically fulfilled. The best shows that have a lot of sexual tension also have great storylines elsewhere.
Five of the shows do that. Even without the sideway glances and tender brushes of touch, they would be worthy of watching. We don't need the sexual tension all the time. Heck, that makes it even better when it does happen.
Two other shows are one to avoid, at least if you are looking for something sexy. They might have some good moments but do not belong on a list of sexist shows on TV. Or, well...a streaming service.

The union is asking workers across the UK’s creative industries about their experiences and views on key issues facing the sector, including pay, employment practices, mental health and wellbeing and finances. It’s been quite a long time since any streaming titles popped the way that Squid Game did with the debut of Season 2.
Nielsen says that the Netflix series racked up more than 4B (4.6B to be exact) viewing minutes for the second consecutive week from December 30 to January 5, which is a feat not accomplished since Wednesday did so in November 2022. While Nielsen doesn’t separate viewing by season, the company did say that 80% of the watch time during this interval went to Season 2.
It’s likely that Squid Game will continue to put up impressive numbers, since according to Netflix the second season was seeing record viewership into January.
Six other titles scored over 1B viewing minutes, including Virgin River with 1.39B, marking its third week in second place since Season 6 premiered on December 19.

Paramount+’s Landman continued its upward trajectory in the first few days of 2025, hitting its best viewing-time mark so far in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Squid Game had a second straight huge week for Netflix as well.
The Korean hit drew just under 4.6 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Dec. 30-Jan. 5, topping the 4 billion mark again a week after its season two premiere. The series fell by less than 7 percent week-to-week from the 4.92 billion minutes it had for its long-awaited return.
Landman snagged 1.3 billion minutes of watch time in the week leading up to its ninth episode. The Taylor Sheridan series, starring Billy Bob Thornton, has improved its totals in every week since it first hit the rankings in late November.

Netflix just released a sizzle reel spotlighting some of the big shows it will be airing this year. And there are some whoppers, especially if you're into the sci-fi/fantasy/genre side of things. The third and final season of Squid Game is coming in June, and the fifth and final season of Stranger Things is coming along sometime after that. The second season of the megahit series Wednesday will turn up this year, as will the fourth season of The Witcher, with Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Netflix has a full year ahead of them.
In addition to videos like this one, Netflix gave members of the press a big list of everything that's coming this year, and there were a few notable absences. Probably the biggest is that the second season of One Piece was nowhere to be found on Netflix's schedule. The first...

With all good news, there's usually a bit of bad news, too. Netflix unveiled the new and returning shows coming throughout 2025, and while it's exciting to learn that shows like Stranger Things, Wednesday, Emily in Paris, Nobody Wants This, and more will be back this year, there's also a catch. Some of our favorite shows were sadly missing from that list.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, Netflix closed out the first month of 2025 by giving fans a glimpse at the shows they can look forward to later this year. While some fan-favorites like Ginny & Georgia and Squid Game received June release dates for their respective third seasons, plenty of other established hit series were also included on the list to make comebacks in 2025.
Unfortunately, not every Netflix show fans love will be able to wrap up filming in time to be released later this year. We already had an inkling that some of these shows,...

Ever since Season 4 of Stranger Things was dropped in two parts, seven episodes on May 27, 2022 followed by the last two episodes on July 1, Netflix has been employing the split-season release strategy for some of its biggest shows.
Virgin River‘s fifth season released 10 episodes in September 2023, followed by a two-episode season finale/holiday special almost two months later. The same year, The Witcher‘s third season also came in two batches, 8 episodes and 3 episodes, almost a month apart, with The Crown’s final season divided into four-episode and six-episode installments, also four weeks apart.
In 2024, Netflix started splitting seasons in half, with the latest seasons of Bridgerton, Emily In Paris and Outer Banks all scheduled that way.
There have been different explanations for Netflix’s pivot away from their signature binge drop releases. The streamer at the time justified the Stranger Things two-part Season 4 with the fact that the VFX...
