Carrie Coon has spent most of quarantine catching up on classic movies with her husband, playwright and actor Tracy Letts. Every night after putting their 2-year-old son, Haskell, to bed, the couple retreats to their basement to watch episodes of “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” followed by a feature film like the Robert Duvall drama “Tender Mercies” or the 1969 Czech black comedy “The Cremator.” For an actor who has spent much of the past few years on the road, starring in TV series like “The Leftovers” and “Fargo,” it’s been a rare respite — and a silver lining in an otherwise bleak time. One of Coon’s pre-coronavirus jobs, a starring role in the domestic drama “The Nest,” opens on Sept. 18.
Why did you want to make “The Nest”?
When it comes to leading lady parts, what attracts me to the project is that they want me to do it. It’s so rare.

BBC content director Charlotte Moore has warned that unless diversity is prioritized in the UK TV industry, the sector will not survive.
Speaking today at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Moore unveiled new programs including an investigation into the impact of race on coronavirus by actor David Harewood and a spin off of World On Fire writer Peter Bowker’s hit series The A Word written by disabled writers. These shows will be among those to spearhead BBC1’s line-up next season.
Moore also highlighted Mangrove, the first film in Steve Macqueen’s series Small Axe, which will air this autumn.
She said globally diversity was now recognized as a key issue for the industry, explaining: “The commitment is there because I think not only creatively is it the best thing to do but business-wise, the whole business will benefit from this because that’s what the audience wants to watch.

The 46th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival is set to open with Lee Isaac Chung’s critically acclaimed drama “Minari,” and will close with Douglas Attal’s fantasy-filled French movie “How I Became a Super Hero.”
“Minari,” one of the 15 films that will screen in competition at Deauville, was a standout at Sundance where it won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award. “Minari” tells the autobiographical tale of a Korean American family who moves to Arkansas to start a farm in the 1980s. Deauville’s artistic director Bruno Barde described “Minari” as an exceptional film reminiscent of John Ford’s movies. Barde said the selection of the film in competition underscores Deauville’s “desire for a rigorous popular cinema.”

"You're a poor kid pretending to be rich." IFC Films has debuted the first official teaser trailer for an indie drama titled The Nest, which initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This is the long-awaited follow-up to Martha Marcy May Marlene, which was the feature directorial debut of producer / filmmaker Sean Durkin. In this searing film about wealth and family, Jude Law stars as an ambitious, greedy husband who moves his family to England hoping to strike it rich with a major business deal. Carrie Coon co-stars as his wife, who starts to see through all his bullshit. "Soon the promise of a lucrative new beginning starts to unravel, the couple have to face the unwelcome truths lying beneath the surface of their marriage." Finally returning to feature filmmaking after his striking 2011 debut Martha Marcy May Marlene, Sean Durkin came back to Sundance Film Festival to premiere his family drama The Nest. Ahead of a September release, IFC Films has now released the first trailer.

Moving to a new country can be a stressful time in your life, well they actually say that moving is the most stressful thing to do, so moving countries must be a whole different ball game. Carrie Coon delivered one of the all-time great television performances in her three-season run on HBO’s “The Leftovers,” and fans have been waiting for the actress to deliver the same dazzling tour-de-force on the big screen. Coon earned acclaim for her feisty supporting turn in David Fincher’s “Gone Girl” and had roles in “The Post” and “Widows,” but this fall Coon will get the leading film role she deserves. The actress and Jude Law headline “The Nest,” the long-awaited second feature from “Martha Marcy May Marlene” director Sean Durkin.
The official synopsis from IFC Films reads: “Rory (Law), an ambitious entrepreneur and former commodities broker … persuades his American wife, Allison (Coon), and their children to leave the comforts of suburban America and return to his native England during the 1980s. Sensing opportunity, Rory rejoins his former firm and leases a centuries-old country manor, with grounds for Allison’s...

IFC Films has released the first trailer for The Nest, an atmospheric family drama starring Jude Law and Carrie Coon, and boy howdy will it give you anxiety. Directed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene), the film follows an entrepreneur (Law) who relocates his wife (Coon) and children to his native England, where both their ambitions and a heaping dose of backstabbing threaten to tear their marriage apart. Collider caught The Nest at last year's Sundance Film Festival and sat down with Coon and Durkin, who told us how his own transatlantic move informed the film. “As a …...

This story about Ed Guiney and “Normal People” first appeared in the “Race Begins” issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine. It is one in a series of conversations about the effects of the coronavirus on the television industry.
Ed Guiney, a director of the Dublin-based production company Element Pictures, has in recent years produced the Oscar-winning films “The Favourite” and “Room” — but he’s now drawing raves on television with the BBC and Hulu series “Normal People,” an adaptation of Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel that stars Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones as a young couple whose on-again, off-again relationship spans high school and college years. Executive produced by “Room” director Lenny Abrahamson and directed by Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, the startlingly intimate series premiered in late April, in the thick of the coronavirus lockdown.

Be careful what you wish for. That's the tagline for the new family fantasy Four Kids and It. But it could also pertain to our current state of world affairs. Movie theaters are still closed as America slowly begins to reopen. Half of the country is going outside this Memorial Day weekend. But there are still no new summer releases hitting the big screen anytime soon. So Lionsgate has answered our wish for anything new to watch. Though many of you will agree, this isn't exactly what we had in mind.
What, exactly, is Four Kids and It? My first guess would be the featured film on next weekend's new episode of How Did This Get Made. And that's probably not too far off the mark. What we have here is a fine mix of Gremlins, Munchie and The Ghoulies with a little bit of The Leprechaun mixed in for good measure.

Exclusive: AMC Networks streamer Acorn TV has acquired The Nest, BBC One’s relationship thriller from Studio Lambert.
The drama, starring Line Of Duty‘s Martin Compston and Peaky Blinders‘ Sophie Rundle, will be made available to Acorn’s 1M subscribers in the U.S. and Canada on July 13.
All3Media International has also sold the drama to pay-tv channel C More in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, while BBC Global Channels has acquired the five-part series in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Spain’s Comunidad Filmin has also picked up the show.
The Nest was created by BAFTA-winning writer Nicole Taylor, and features Compston and Rundle as a wealthy couple with an idyllic life Scotland — except for the fact they are having fertility issues.
A chance encounter with an 18-year-old from Glasgow (played by Sex Education‘s Mirren Mack) gives them the chance of having their dream baby, but the process is far from straightforward.

U.S. broadcast networks are acquiring and planning to acquire international series on a scale not seen since the 2007/08 Writers’ Strike.
The Covid-19 global pandemic has provided a boon for global distributors, many of which have long struggled to sell content to the likes of ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW.
This week, we have seen The CW pick up British comedy series Dead Pixels, produced by Succession creator Jesse Armstrong’s production company Various Artists, and Canadian procedural The Coroner and NBC has bought Canadian medical drama Transplant.
Deadline has spoken to a number of international sales execs, who are seeing unprecedented demand for English-language shows that could help plug gaps caused by the production shutdown. We have also highlighted a number of titles, finished and in the can, that may travel to the States.

After her Primetime Emmy and SAG-nominated performance in “Fleabag,” actor Sian Clifford’s career is on temporary pause after the coronavirus pandemic brought the industry to a standstill.
“It’s completely open-ended with no idea where we’ll end up or what it means for our industry,” said Clifford, who was speaking at a BAFTA-organized virtual panel on Tuesday for ITV/AMC mini-series “Quiz,” in which she stars alongside “Succession” actor Matthew Macfadyen.
“Everything I had lined up is postponed and might not even happen. I don’t know. We’ve just got to see. The most important thing is we get through it. ”
A strong performance by Clifford — who will next be seen in Sky comedy “Two Weeks to Live,” which is fortunately in post — bolsters “Quiz,” a compelling dramatization of the story of army major Charles Ingram (Macfadyen), his wife Diana (Clifford) and supposed coughing accomplice, Tecwen Whittock,...
