The song "Watermelon" was written for the film as a collaboration between Emily Skeggs (Patty) and writer/director Adam Rehmeier. On their second day in Detroit, Rehmeier had Skeggs write stream-of-consciousness poetry as her character, and they created and recorded the song in a day.
Simon (Kyle Gallner)'s alias is "John Q. Public". When he writes letters to Patty (Emily Skeggs) he addresses her as "Jane Q." The song "Watermelon" is credited to "John + Jane Q. Public".
The cast spent two weeks in rehearsals before filming began-unusual for film productions-as a way to get to know each other and get comfortable with their characters.
The picture in the porno mag that the clerk shows Simon and comments on is actually of Demi Moore from the early 80's.
Kyle Garner used his own voice when performing at the end of the film.
