There’s just something about crime dramas that keeps us hooked. Maybe it’s the adrenaline rush of an unsolved mystery, the way the tension builds between characters, or simply our natural curiosity to dig into things best left alone. Whatever the reason, no matter how dark or twisted the plot gets, we’re all in—trying to crack the case before the detectives on screen do.
With true crime reports dominating the news on a daily basis, the genre has never seemed more demanding. And currently, one show that is captivating everyone’s attention is Adolescence on Netflix. This gripping crime drama doesn’t hold back; it pulls viewers in with a web of secrets, lies, and some jaw-dropping twists.
The series isn’t a direct dramatization of real events per se. Yet its creator, Stephen Graham, has drawn some inspiration from real-life true crimes, so the show itself feels really disturbingly real.

There's some exciting news about Wednesday season 2 to share with fans of the Netflix original series!
In a recent interview with Collider promoting her new movie, Death of a Unicorn, Jenna Ortega revealed a big update about Wednesday season 2 post-production. Ortega mentioned she's been doing Adr on season 2, which is usually one of the final steps for cast before a season is finished.
Here's what Ortega told Collider:
“We're still in the edit. I was doing Adr for it two weeks ago. That's the funny thing about these jobs is you're done, you wrap, but you're not really done. So, I'll probably be working on it until the end.”
The cast and crew finished filming season 2 at the end of 2024, and according to Ortega's latest update, things are progressing through post-production in the spring of 2025.
Prior to this update, it had been a minute since we heard any updates about...

Netflix is in the process of developing a second season of “The Perfect Couple,” according to media reports.
After the first season of “The Perfect Couple” adapted Elin Hilderbrand’s novel of the same name, the second installment would be based on Hilderbrand’s “Swan Song,” which is also set in Nantucket. Season 2 is in development at Netflix, and, if greenlit, would shift “The Perfect Couple” from a limited series to an anthology series.
The new season would welcome aboard a new showrunner in Joanna Calo, who’s best known for co-showrunning and executive producing FX’s “The Bear.” Susanne Bier and Nicole Kidman, who starred in the first season, will return as EPs alongside Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Hend Baghdady and Per Saari.

When we talk about the most prolific television creators and writers, the same names often come up: Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, Dick Wolf, Taylor Sheridan, and more of the most popular and profitable names of the moment. But there's someone who's often left out of those conversations despite being responsible for some of the biggest, most beloved shows in pop culture history. Of course, that someone is none other than primetime soap and rom-com mastermind Darren Star!
Not only did Star help reinvent and popularize teen dramas on the small screen with the '90s phenomenon Beverly Hills, 90210, but he has continuously centered women in their own stories about their lives, careers, and sexuality — important stories that have remained vital parts of our own lives. Subscribers to Netflix love such original thrillers as Carry-On and Rebel Ridge, it seems, with the films receiving even higher viewing numbers than Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Netflix has released its viewership figures for the second half of 2024, and they provide a (possibly) interesting bit of insight into its subscribers’ tastes.
The most obvious take-away is that Netflix customers really like their thrillers; festive airport nailbiter Carry-On, starring Taron Edgerton, continues to be one of the most successful original films the streaming firm has released in years. Despite releasing right at the end of last year, it was still the platform’s most-watched movie with 137.3m views.
In January, Carry-On was Netflix’s fifth most-watched movie of all time. A few weeks on, and it’s climbed to the third position with a total of 169.2m views, placing it just behind Don’t Look Up (171.4m) and Red Notice (230.9m). Releasing a high-concept,...

Sometimes you know what people are watching on Netflix just by being part of culture. It’s not going to shock anyone to learn that “Squid Game” and the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight were, indeed, hits.
But when you dive further into the streamer’s data, weirder trends begin to emerge.
For example, did you know that in the last six months of 2024, people were all about “Prison Break” and that audiences were watching that nearly 20-year-old Fox series far more than both “Lost” or “Dexter”? Well, now you do.
Following the streamer’s release of its most watched titles from July to December of 2024, TheWrap combed through the top 100 TV titles in search for trends. Then we went a bit beyond that just for fun. From “Squid Game” Season 2 to “Tokyo Swindlers,” here’s what the world was watching in the second half of 2024.

Netflix has released its latest six-month trove of viewing data, and if the compilation of more than 15,000 series and movies points to anything, it’s how big a phenomenon Squid Game is.
Season two of the Korean hit was the most watched series worldwide in the second half of 2024, in both Netflix’s preferred view metric (86.5 million, measured by dividing viewing hours by running time) and total viewing time (619.9 million hours). Remarkably, it did all that in just six days — season two premiered on Dec. 26.
In under a week, Squid Game drew 69.5 million more viewing hours than the second-place show in that measure — Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which accumulated 550.4 million hours in three-plus months after its Sept. 19 premiere. In views, Squid Game had 11.4 million more than The Perfect Couple (75.1 million), which also debuted in September and has a running time about two hours shorter than that of Squid Game.

For data nerds – it’s our favorite time of the year – the second half of 2024 viewing data has just been released! We’ve got a lot more to come, but what are the most-watched movies and series of the second half of the year? Let’s dive straight in.
What are the key points that Netflix has cited as being the most important for this data drop? Netflix reiterated that Engagement (time spent watching) is the best metric to gauge member satisfaction and that this data drop covers ~99% of all video watch time on Netflix and that no single title accounts for more than 1% of total Netflix viewing.
Squid Game S2 had the most hours viewed (0.7% of total viewing), and their total watch time for this period of July to December 2024 was 94B hours (5% increase YoY). Their most-viewed series was Squid Game S2 (87M views) despite premiering only 6 days before year-end.

It feels like we have been waiting forever for Stranger Things season 5, and we kind of have been. The previous season was released way back in summer 2022, if you can remember that far back, and it's been an excruciating wait ever since due to setbacks caused by the strikes. But we're finally going to be heading back to Hawkins, Indiana and the Upside Down sometime this year.
Don't get your hopes up too, too high just yet, but we might have learned when the highly anticipated final season of Stranger Things will drop on Netflix. A recent leak from a document that was connected to season 5's merchandising reportedly revealed the intended release dates. Similar situations arise rather frequently, though their veracity tends to remain in question.

“Maria” cinematographer Edward Lachman won the Feature Film prize at the 39th annual ASC Awards, February 23 at The Beverly Hilton. His surprise win beat out Academy Award favorites “Dune: Part Two” (Greig Fraser) and “The Brutalist” (Lol Crawley), as well as “Nosferatu” (Jarin Blaschke), “Conclave” (Stéphane Fontaine), “A Complete Unknown” (Phedon Papamichael), and “Wicked” (Alice Brooks). The expanded list was due to how close the percentage of voting was.
This marks Lachman’s first win after five nominations at the ASC Awards. He was previously nominated for his work with Todd Haynes on “Mildred Pierce,” “Far From Heaven,” and “Carol,” as well as his previous effort with Pablo Larraín, “El Conde.” His second project with the Chilean filmmaker, “Maria,” follows the last days of opera singer Maria Callas as she reflects on her life and the struggle of maintaining her own voice. Edward Lachman has taken top honors at the 39th annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for his work on “Maria.”
In a competitive year, the ASC nominated seven cinematographers in the feature film category. The last time the field expanded beyond five was in 2014. Movies and TV shows about true crime can be hit or miss, to say the least; sometimes, the families of real killers accuse the project of exploitation, and other times, it's just insensitive. That's what makes former Disney teen idol Hilary Duff's 2019 film "The Haunting of Sharon Tate" so baffling. Not only is it based on the very real murder of Sharon Tate at the hands of Charles Manson and his followers in her Hollywood home in 1969, but it has Duff, as Tate, playing the murdered woman's ghost as she relives the events of the horrific Manson killings.
"The Haunting of Sharon Tate" is, to put it lightly, a bizarre movie, and though it's not Duff's fault that this misguided project is pretty bad, the evidence of its numerous failures as a movie (and retelling of Tate's death) is evident in its Metacritic score. The movie only earned a...

UK chart-topper Phil Collins has seemingly pulled down the curtain on his long career, saying he has no wish to make any further music.
The former Genesis frontman and solo superstar, now 74, told Mojo magazine:
“I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore.”
Collins toured for a final time with his former band Genesis in 2022, but his frail physical health meant he performed from a chair on stage. He told Mojo:
“The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick.”
Collins previously revealed that he suffers from type 2 diabetes and complications from a spin injury, also that he could no longer hold his drum sticks properly without feeling pain, even taping his sticks to his hands to get through later gigs.
As a solo entertainer, he has won eight Grammy Awards, four Billboard Music Awards,...

Exclusive: Emily In Paris creator Darren Star and New Amsterdam creator David Schulner have teamed for Uncorked, a half-hour, single-camera dramedy that has landed at Netflix with a script-to-series commitment, sources tell Deadline.
Details of the premise are being kept under wraps, but I hear the series is set in Napa Valley and, like many of Star’s series, has a female lead.
Star and Schulner are co-writing and executive producing Uncorked through Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, where Star has an overall and Schulner a first-look deal.
The duo recently pitched the show, which had five buyers pursuing it in a competitive situation, I hear. Uncorked ultimately landed at Netflix, home of Star’s rom-com hit Emily In Paris, with a significant script-to-series commitment.
Reps for Netflix and Universal TV declined comment.

The guilty pleasure television industry continues to be fed by the always reliable Darren Star! The mastermind behind hits like Beverly Hills, 90210 and its spinoff Melrose Place, Sex and the City, Younger, and the Netflix original series Emily in Paris has an exciting new show developing that was just set up at Peacock. As a bonus, there's a book coming out, too!
On Feb. 19, Deadline revealed that Peacock has snatched a script-to-series commitment for Climbing in Heels, the first new show under Star's new overall deal at Universal Television. Universal snapped up the rights to the debut novel by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas last year, with Star attached, even though the book still hasn't even been published. The novel hits shelves on April 29.
Here's a taste of the book's synopsis via Macmillian Publishers:

Peacock has won the rights to develop Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas’ upcoming novel “Climbing in Heels” into a TV series, Variety has learned.
Peacock has given the drama project a script-to-series commitment. It was first reported in December that Universal TV was taking the show to market, with Goldsmith-Thomas and Darren Star set to serve as co-writers and executive producers.
“I am thrilled that ‘Climbing In Heels’ was taken off the table so quickly by Peacock,” Goldsmith-Thomas said. “It is the perfect home for Darren and I to bring these fabulously complicated and colorful characters to life”
The official description of the show states that it is “a fictional tale following the rise of five ambitious secretaries navigating the glitzy world of 1980s Hollywood while offering a glimpse into the boys-will-be-boys club and the women who wanted a seat at a table where they were expected to serve.”

Peacock has landed Climbing in Heels, Emily In Paris creator Darren Star and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas’ drama series adaptation of her upcoming novel of the same name, with a script-to-series commitment. This marks the first big sale for Star under the multi-year overall deal he signed with Universal Television last year.
Deadline first reported of Universal TV preemptively buying the rights to Climbing in Heels in December, ahead of the novel’s April 29, 2025 release via St. Martin’s Press. The adaptation was taken in January, with Universal TV sibling Peacock quickly taking it off the market with an aggressive script-to-series bid.
Star, who also created Sex and the City, and Goldsmith-Thomas will co-write and executive produce the proposed series, which he describes as the “ballsy and bawdy love child of Mad Men and Sex and the City.”

Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount took the role of Quinn Hamilton in the adaptation of Sophie Cousens’ novel This Time Next Year after consulting some friends about the book.
The romantic comedy film — now available to stream exclusively in the U.S. on The Roku Channel for free in addition to Roku TVs, devices and TheRokuChannel.com — also stars Sophie Cookson as Minnie Cooper, Golda Rosheuvel as Quinn’s mother Tara, John Hannah as Minnie’s father Keith and Monica Dolan as Minnie’s mother Connie. Author Sophie Cousens adapted her novel, which came out at the end of 2020, into the screenplay for the movie.
“As I remember it, the script came through, and I gave it a read, and I was like, ‘Yo, this is this is really cool,’ and I reached out to my friends of mine, and I was like, ‘Have you read this book?’ And they lost the shit.

Are you ready for another season of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix? Well, there's some good and bad news. First, the Netflix original legal drama series has been renewed for a fourth season, which the streamer announced back in January. But the bad news? We might not be catching up with Mickey Haller's case in 2025 as the series seems to have been pushed to 2026.
Last month, Netflix also confirmed its programming slate for the rest of 2025, which includes the high-profile and highly anticipated returns of fan-favorite shows like Stranger Things, Emily in Paris, Nobody Wants This, Monster, and so many more. Along with the 2025 lineup confirmation, Netflix also seemed to confirm which shows won't be released this year based on the list's omissions.
Bridgerton, Outer Banks, and Virgin River were among the most popular shows not included in the 2025, but The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 also wasn't highlighted for release this year.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Peter Dinklage has officially joined the series regular cast of the Showtime Original Series Dexter: Resurrection, from executive producer and showrunner Clyde Phillips. Production began in New York last month and will premiere this summer.
No official synopsis for the Michael C. Hall-led series has been revealed, but it’s the continuation of Dexter: New Blood set in the present day.
Dinklage will portray Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist. To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue. Deadline understands Dinklage is playing the big baddy of the season.
Leon will work closely alongside Charley (Uma Thurman), his head of security. A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as Prater’s resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman.

If you have been missing Emily in Paris and have been feeding your craving by watching Younger on Netflix, or any of the other romantic comedy series like Younger that we recommended, your ancillary binge-watches will eventually lead to Emily's return later this year. Netflix has officially confirmed that Emily in Paris season 5 will be released sometime in 2025!
The streaming service made the announcement in late January 2025 with the reveal of its 2025 programming slate, which included a number of fan-favorite Netflix original series like Stranger Things, Nobody Wants This, The Diplomat, Squid Game, and many more. Most of the series didn't receive release dates but were confirmed to drop at some point in 2025.
Emily in Paris season 5 hasn't yet started production as of February 2025. Back in November 2024, shortly after the release of season 4 part 2 in September, Variety shared that filming on season 5 would begin in May 2025, during the first week of the month.
