Doom: The Dark Ages is finally out for PCs, at least in the form of early access. While the game formally launches tomorrow, May 15, 2025, there do seem to be certain issues plaguing the game in the launch version of its code.

These post-installation issues appear to be quite widespread and affect mostly Nvidia users thus far. Other affected sections include general progression and trophies. Thankfully, developer id Software has released a day one patch for everyone. Some issues are still persistent, though, which can be found discussed below (along with their fixes).

Taylor Kitsch could have been a one-note actor. He was handsome, and could have delved into making a bunch of Hallmark films and been just fine. Instead, the British Columbian decided he wanted to stretch himself. He still got pigeonholed a bit.

He tends to get roles that show him as a bit rough around the edges. He plays the roles well, though one might want to see Kitsch get a chance to do something else. Maybe that time will come soon.

In the series below, Kitsch plays a lot of the same types of characters, but he is talented enough to bring some nuance to each role. The shows might not be perfect, but that is no fault of the actors. And his new series on Netflix, American Primeval, might rank as one of his best.

"Seven Samurai" by master Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa might just be the most remade film ever. The 1954 film is, sure enough, about seven samurai recruited to protect a farming village from bandits. The setting, themes, and characters are Japanese, but the premise is evergreen. "The Magnificent Seven" is just "Seven Samurai" but with cowboys. "A Bug's Life" retold the story with, well, bugs. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" episode "Bounty Hunters" recruits the seven from Jedi Knights and alien mercenaries.

"The Defeated" season 2 will not be happening despite its popularity on Netflix. The show was intended to have a limited number of episodes, with a total of 16 split into two parts. The final eight episodes are currently in production and will wrap up minor storylines while providing closure for fans.

The first season of The Defeated premiered on Netflix in 2021 and found an audience, but unfortunately for those viewers, while more episodes are expected, The Defeated season 2 is not happening. The show was originally released in 2020 under the name Shadowplay after being produced by the German-based company Tandem Productions. The Defeated stars Taylor Kitsch as Max McLaughlin, an NYPD detective traveling to Berlin in 1946. As he looks for his brother Moritz (Logan Marshall-Green), Max helps start a new police department in the city.

The BBC has picked up Irish crime drama Kin from Fifth Season.

The RTÉ series, which aired in the U.S. on AMC+, is the latest high-profile show snapped up by the BBC buying team, following the likes of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire. It is produced by Joker financier Bron Studios and Man in the High Castle outfit Headline Pictures.

Kin stars Clare Dunne (Herself), Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) and Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones). It follows gang wars in Dublin. A boy is killed and his family embarks on a gangland war with an international cartel: a war that is impossible to win. Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs have signed on to star in UK drama The Salt Path, the feature debut of acclaimed theatre director Marianne Elliott. Rocket Science is launching world sales on the title at Cannes.

The story is based on Raynor Winn’s memoir about trekking 630 miles of UK coastline with her husband after they were forcibly removed from their home. Rebecca Lenkiewicz, who wrote the screenplay for She Said, wrote the film adaptation.

Composer Chanda Dancy had roughly two months to create more than four hours of orchestra music for The Defeated, the Netflix series about life in Berlin following World War II.

She recorded with an 85-piece orchestra in Prague as well as solo elements in her studio in Pasadena. She crafted music of that time but added modern sensibilities. She mixed the sound of a grand, sweeping orchestra with synthesizers and elements of Edm.

And she met that incredibly short deadline.

“This was essentially like being asked to swim from Los Angeles to Japan,” Dancy tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Me not knowing how long that distance is — I was like, ‘I can do that in a couple hours. I’m a good swimmer.’ It really didn’t sink in until I was done, honestly.”

Al Strobel, the actor who played Phillip Gerard (aka “The One-Armed Man”) on Twin Peaks, has died. He was 83.

Strobel died Friday, Dec. 2, as confirmed by Peaks producer and longtime David Lynch collaborator Sabrina Sutherland. “Through the darkness of future past and much sadness we say goodbye to Al Strobel,” she said in a statement on behalf of his family. “He is an irreplaceable human being and will always be an important part of our Twin Peaks family.”

“Devotion,” says composer Chanda Dancy, “is about true eternal love. How do you translate love for family, love for your fellow man, love for your country, into music? That’s what the director and I wanted to create.”

Dancy’s score for the J.D. Dillard film about an African-American pilot who became a Korean War hero is among its biggest assets: a work for massive orchestra that underlines the thrill of flight, the dangers of war, and the close emotional ties forged between fellow airmen along with their families waiting back home.

Award-winning German actor Nina Hoss has signed with CAA for representation.

Hoss stars opposite Cate Blanchett in Todd Field’s “Tár,” which will open theatrically on Oct. 7 via Focus Features. Acclaimed artist Simon Stålenhag’s latest work Endymion, is being developed for the small screen. The Bridge creator Måns Mårlind is teaming with Infinite Entertainment, the production arm of visual effects and animation company Goodbye Kansas, and Stålenhag to develop Endymion as a television series. Infinite will be taking the project out to buyers.

Set in an alternative world at the dawn of the millennia, Endymion tells the story of a teenage girl who is searching for answers about her father’s mysterious death. The Canadian born actor recently wrapped the Netflix limited series Painkiller, directed by Peter Berg.

Kitsch portrays Glen Kryger, a hardworking family man whose life is upended after an injury. He stars opposite Matthew Broderick and Uzo Oduba in the series.

Kitsch also just wrapped The Terminal List for Amazon opposite Chris Pratt.

A concentration camp survivor returns home after the war only to find betrayal and deceit in “Phoenix,” a Blu-ray release from Criterion. Nina Hoss is Nelly Lenz, a German Jew returning to Berlin in 1945 both physically and psychologically damaged after years in concentration camps including the notorious Auschwitz death camp. A successful nightclub singer prior to the horrors of Nazi Germany, she returns home with a disfigured face hidden under bandages when we first meet her on screen. Nelly is aided by her friend Lene Winter (Nina Kunzendorf), a fellow German Jew who fled to England before the war. Nelly receives reconstructive surgery on her face which alters her looks, although we never see what she looked liked prior to her facial disfigurement. We first see her after the bandages are removed post surgery.

We’re deep into the dog days of summer, but Netflix’s list of new releases for August 2021 feels like fall.

Both bestselling novels and great historical figures have always fascinated me personally. I would like to realise these with one of the world’s foremost media companies.”

Miramax and Amazon melodrama “Uncle Frank,” and Channel 4 and HBO Max’s AIDS-themed series “It’s a Sin” dominated awards at the 60th annual Monte-Carlo TV Festival.

Set in the early 1970s in North Carolina, “Uncle Frank” won best film, best creator and best actor for Paul Bettany who stars as a gay man forced to confront the Southern family to whom he’s stayed closeted.

“It’s a Sin,” a British series created by Russell T Davies (“Years After Years”), won best series and best actress for Lydia West. The series was produced by Red Production Company for Channel 4 and HBO Max, in association with All3media International.

Finland’s “Piece of My Heart,” a musical romantic series with Malin Akerman, took home the Jury Special Prize. The News awards were given to “ITV News: Inside the US Capitol” for best news coverage; “The Diagnosis: Covid-19” for best news documentary; “Citoyen Nobel” for best documentary.

Darren Star, who received the honorary Golden Nymph during the opening ceremony of the 60th Monte-Carlo Television Festival, talked about his career debut and discussed what’s next with “Emily in Paris” and his next show with Netflix, “Uncoupled.”

“Uncoupled,” which Star is doing in partnership with Jeffrey Richman (“Modern Family”), is about a newly single gay man who has to navigate the dating scene as a man in his 40s after his husband of 17 years walks out on him.

Star suggested the single-camera comedy isn’t being created as a niche show, but rather a series with a broad appeal that’s about the “very universal experience” of “being in a relationship that ends very subtly and abruptly after so many years.”

Exclusive: Betty Gabriel (Get Out) has been tapped for a major new series regular role in the upcoming third season of Prime Video’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, starring John Krasinski.

Gabriel, who will play Elizabeth Wright, the Chief of Station, replaces Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who was originally tapped for the part last fall. Jean-Baptiste has exited the series over creative differences. Jack Ryan is currently in production on Season 3, and the few scenes Jean-Baptiste had filmed will be reshot with Gabriel.

Also cast as series regulars in Season 3 are James Cosmo (His Dark Materials), Peter Guinness (Cursed), Nina Hoss (Little Sister) and Alexej Manvelov (Before We Die) in the series, a co-production of Amazon Studios, Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television.

Exclusive: Producing and financing company Bron Studios has hired Juliana Janes as Vice President of Development for Television.

She will report to Bron Studios President of Television, David Davoli, and will work with him and EVP of Television, Samantha Thomas, to build and oversee the domestic development pipeline. Janes is based in Los Angeles.

“Juliana’s strong sense of story, great taste, and character as a human being embody all of the things we strive to find when hiring an executive,” said Davoli. “Her experience and reputation with talent, agencies and broadcasters will be crucial for us as we look to scale up the domestic television slate.”

Janes is a film and television executive with more than 15 years of experience in the industry. She joins Bron after leading television initiatives at Gulfstream Pictures, where she managed all aspects of development and production for Gulfstream’s overall television deal with Wbtv.

Taylor Kitsch will star alongside Chris Pratt in Amazon’s television adaptation of Jack Carr’s bestselling novel “The Terminal List,” Variety has confirmed. The series is a co-production from Amazon Studios and Civic Center Media in association with MRC Television.

The “Friday Night Lights” actor will play Ben Edwards, a former Navy Seal and the best friend of James Reece, played by Pratt.

“The Terminal List” follows Reece after his entire platoon of Seals is ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. When Reece returns home to his family, he questions his own culpability with muddled memories of the event. However, as new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him. Edwards uses his CIA Ground Branch access and operator skillset to help Reece seek his vengeance.

The series is executive produced by Pratt and Jon Schumacher through Indivisible Productions, Antonia Fuqua through Fuqua Films and writer Daniel Shattuck.

2021’s totally online NATPE Virtual Miami is just but half over. Some inkling of how it might shape out, however, is fast falling into place.

Basically, streaming stole the show. Yes, Fox did announce during NATPE that the Jay Leno-hosted “You Bet Your Life” reboot, bowing this fall, has sold in 85% of the U.S. Yet a once annual launchpad for shows seeking U.S. syndication was dominated this time round by the seismic pivot of Hollywood’s majors and other players into global VOD platforms, and the impact of this tectonic shunt on the industry at large.

Dominating NATPE-related business announcements and online panel discussions, that impact is inevitable.

But it didn’t always play out in the most obvious fashion.

Following, six – somewhat provisional – takeaways from this year’s NATPE Miami, focused on its international business:

When Dexter first came to an end in September 2013, viewers were confused and disappointed in the titular character’s lumberjack route. Among the unsatisfied was lead actor Michael C. Hall, who said he hopes the upcoming Dexter revival will right the wrongs of the finale.

Exclusive: Bron Studios’ TV Group said Thursday that it has hired Samantha Thomas as EVP and Emma Fleischer as creative producer, as the division continues to ramp up its slate. Thomas will oversee creative for Bron’s active slate of productions from development through post, while Fleischer will work directly on productions, overseeing on-the-ground efforts. Both previously worked in the world of Marvel TV.

Both will report to Bron Studios’ television group president David Davoli.

Fleischer is currently in Ireland on the set of Kin, Bron’s multi-part crime drama starring Charlie Cox, Clare Dunne and Aidan Gillen which is currently filming. Near a shooting start in London is the English-language remake of the French series Call My Agent! (Dix Pour Cent), which Bron is producing with UK-based Headline Pictures in association with Turbine Studio.

HBO Max, the streaming-video hub of WarnerMedia, has acquired anticipated Studiocanal title “Possessions,” a psychological thriller series created by Shachar Magen (“Sirens”) and directed by BAFTA-nominated Thomas Vincent (“Bodyguard”).

As an international Max Original, the series will be made available on the U.S. streaming platform in December.

Commissioned for Canal Plus’s Creation Original and Israel’s Yes TV, the series was shot in Israel in French, Hebrew and English. The show was produced by Caroline Benjo, Barbara Letellier, Simon Arnal and Carole Scotta from the leading Paris-based production company Haut et Court TV, whose credits include “No Man’s Land” and “The Returned.” Eilon Ratzkovsky, Osnat Nishri and Keren Misgav Ristvedt from Israel’s Quiddity (“Sirens”) co-produced the series.

Germany’s Maze Pictures has boarded Moscow-based Metrafilm’s Kgb comedy series “Pawns,” from writers Michael and Lily Idov, who penned the 2018 Cannes competition screener “Leto.”

The company, which has offices in Munich, Berlin and Lucerne, Switzerland, is also developing a miniseries based on “Ghosts of Berlin,” a book of supernatural stories by filmmaker Rudolf Herzog (son of Werner Herzog), and the tentatively titled mystery series “Parallels.”

On the film front, Maze Pictures is co-producing David Sandberg’s upcoming action-comedy “Kung Fury 2,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender. It also co-produced Abel Ferrara’s “Siberia,” headlining Willem Dafoe, which premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.

“Pawns” is a Russian-German co-production between Maze Pictures, Metrafilm and Latvia’s Tasse Film.

The series has already secured development support from German regional funder Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the project is set to shoot primarily in Riga and to a lesser extent in Berlin and Moscow.

With depictions of pandemic catastrophes, war, failing empires, the divide between rich and poor, shooting rampages and massive power outages, Germany’s newest TV shows appear to reflect the current apocalyptic zeitgeist.

German broadcasters and streaming services alike are going heavy on suspense, crime, psychological thrillers, action and adventure, often colored by themes of societal disruption and armed conflict.

Showrunner Christian Alvart (“Dogs of Berlin”) was in production with Zdf Enterprise’s new series “Sløborn” well before the Covid-19 pandemic but the storyline was eerily prescient: A community on the North Sea island of Sløborn is slowly devastated when a deadly virus begins killing residents while being largely ignored by most of the population until it’s too late. Alvart says he wanted to make a series about a crisis that occurs because people are too occupied with their daily lives to take the situation seriously.
