When I was twenty-years-old I watched The Breed, a cheesy killer dog movie starring Michelle Rodriguez at the height of her popularity. By no stretch of the imagination was it a “good” movie, but nearly twenty years later I still remember it. It’s the type of mind-numbing popcorn flick that goes great with an extra cheese pizza and a cold refreshing beer. It’s not the type of movie that I’d ever imagined would get a sequel, especially not nearly two decades later. While A Breed Apart isn’t exactly a direct follow-up to its predecessor, it maintains the absurdity of the original while doubling down on the comedy.

Written and directed by The Furst Brothers, the survival horror comedy puts a new spin on 2006's The Breed, a film produced by the legendary Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream director that starred Michelle Rodriguez and followed a group of college kids on a "deserted" island where dogs were bred to kill. Now a remake of The Breed is in the works, going by the title A Breed Apart – and Lionsgate is planning to give the film a theatrical release on May 16th. With that date just one month away, a trailer for A Breed Apart has dropped online, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Back in June 2024, we learned that Fall stars Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey would be starring in an upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed. Well, guess who just joined the cast? Scream star Hayden Panettiere! She, along with several others, will be starring alongside Gardner and Currey in the new horror film.

Wait! We need to clear some things up about this movie first. It's not actually a remake. It was initially believed to be one, but instead, it's a sequel to The Breed. It's also been given an official title, A Breed Apart.

While it's still unclear who is writing the script for the film, filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst (Nightmare Shark) will be directing and producing via their Curmudgeon Films production company. In addition, Daro Film Distribution is signed on to co-produce and will be financing the movie as well.

While remakes can be hit-or-miss, we hope that the upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed does the original 2006 movie justice. We first learned of this film back in May 2024, and more information has come out since then.

The Breed is set to be directed and produced by filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst. They previously helmed the horror action film Nightmare Shark. They will produce this horror flick through their film production company, Curmudgeon Films, which will also be handling sales across the Americas. Additionally, the movie will be co-produced and financed by Daro Film Distribution, which also represents the international rights to the film. It's unknown who will be writing the script, though.

Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive first look at the trailer for Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar, a sci-fi adventure from Uncork'd Entertainment. The action-packed film, which arrives in select theaters on April 21 before becoming available on digital May 2, stars Michael Paré (Streets of Fire), Olivier Gruner (Showdown in Manila), and Sarah French (Pretty Boy). It was selected to screen at Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, already highlighting its great promise.

Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar, which was directed by Gero Setian and written by Joe Knetter, follows a father and daughter who work as space scavengers and are searching for legendary treasures which they must outrun evil mercenaries to obtain.
