This series is just ok, you can watch it once after 40 episodes I just forwarded, there are lot many loopholes in the plot. you can divide the series in many parts and you cant connect them.
The acting of main leads is good but they cant keep the weak plot keeping you hooked
seems some scene was lifted from Eternal love series
Yan gi and Ethan Juan have good chemistry
Watch it once

This is the kind of the series that you would watch when you are not busy doing something important. Just a little warning, If you are then don't even think about starting this series. It's damn addictive. There was not a single episode that I didn't like. It would've been perfect if they explained the ending in one more episode. That was the only drawback i could find in this series.
I've been a fan of Yang Mi after seeing her work in Ten Miles Of Peach Blossom. Her chemistry with actor Ethan Juan is as amazing as it was with Mark Chao in TMOPB. She just never fails to amaze me.
I could NOT stop watching this! From start to finish I was completely mesmerised by the story and the characters!! After watching several Chinese fantasy drama's, I must say this one is my favourite! If you're looking to find something similar, I'd recommend the Three lives three worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossom! It's got Yang Mi and Mark Chao, and the chemistry between the two is also amazing! Ashes of Love is another one!
My first ever Chinese drama that I've watched, and I've got to admit I'm impressed. The story is beautiful with stong leading characters. Not to forget the setting is amazing. And at last I must also mention the wonderful soundtrack it has...the background music is just great ...

This is ground breaking, a female Chinese lead who is intelligent, not wishy washy and who makes legit decisions fast. She is also strong and although she likes the female lead shes not afraid to tell him what she thinks of him to his face. She doesn't love blindly but look straight at what he is and loves him anyway. What can I say about the male lead? Ladies we all know that Ethan does not disappoint but somehow he has managed to take it to a next level i mean..that shot with the smirk on the dragon bed...and that kiss..*you know which one*. But his character goes beyond that, strong powerful, complex and a realist...my gosh ...I can't say enough about this drama..it is a welcome relief after moonshine and valentine..started out promising with a great storyline but got messed up along the way and ended *rolls eyes* thank goodness for Fuyao!

Main character always win after 2nd episode. No suprizes. No struggle. The enemy fooled easily. When Fu Yao in danger, Wuji always appear out of no where to help.
Such a waste for Yang Mi.
Such a waste for Yang Mi.
Here for Yang Mi & Ethan Ruan. God both are awesomely brilliant actors and together they are just mind blowing. Their acting, their explosive chemistry & their respective characters, I just love love love. This drama is bloody awesome so far, great characters, story, plot, pacing, beautiful cinematography, aesthetically pleasing fight scenes & romance. This drama has it all, great heroine, who is smart, intelligent, uses her brains to make up her own mind, not a puppet or a damsel in distress, who just keeps fawning over the hero. She's got wit, courage, integrity and strength of character & personality. The hero is bloody awesome too, he's smart, intelligent, witty, cunning, devious, naughty, strong of both character & personality and his smile is just to die for. All the other characters are bloody awesome too .
A must watch drama, it's a complete package with action, romance, revenge, friendship and brotherhood. The lead have amazing chemistry and instead of stupid misunderstandings they always believed each other ....

First Chinese drama that I'm hooked on. This drama has everything. I've attempted to watch several Chinese and Taiwanese dramas throughout the years and have only successfully made it through a select few. Normally they become boring or I'm turned off by the number of episodes or by the possibility of a sad ending for our leads which is the norm for a Chinese historical drama. For years I found that Korean dramas were the only dramas that satisfied me because they almost always have happy endings. This drama is different from all the others I've seen. It has action, adventure, drama, and a romance that entices viewers. On top of it all, the writers manage to sneak in moments of comedy amidst it all. The plot doesn't drag on and there are multiple storylines overarching with the main one and this makes the drama exciting. The OSTs are also beautiful and go greatly with the drama. Yang Mi's dramas never fail me and this is no exception. Her character Fuyao is strong, independent, and unlike many female characters in a historical drama like this. I hadn't watched any of Ethan Juan's dramas before, but his chemistry with Yang Mi is amazing. They make such a great couple that can really stand up for themselves, protect each other, and navigate through whatever schemes the bad guys throw at them together. This drama will have close to 70 episodes and normally I would stop watching and be turned off by the amount of episodes, but I'm eagerly awaiting new episodes every day. I've read from other comments that Ethan personally said in an interview that there will be a good ending, and I sincerely hope that this is true. This drama is a game changer and I can honestly say that it will be difficult to find another drama that will fill the void in my heart after this drama.

WITHOUT LYING, BEING COMPLETELY HONEST. I HAVE WATCHED LIKE 54 CDRAMAS. AND TO MY SHOCK, THIS IS FAR THE BEST DRAMA I HAVE EVER WATCHED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN YANG MI AND ETHAN JUAN IS JUST PHENOMENAL AND UNBELIEVABLY HEART TOUCHING. THE COSTUMES ARE GREAT. THE SUPPORTING CAST ALSO DID A VERY GREAT JOB.
Honestly, straight up one of the best dramas I have watched so far. It's been awhile since a drama has been able to completely grasp my attention and hook me in, Legend of Fuyao did that. Things about the plot get revealed at a very charming place in my opinion and the story itself is interesting and unique. You just fall in love with the characters !! As someone who has been watching dramas for the past two years, I REALLY HIGHLY recommend this one.

ONLY WATCHED TWO EPISODES SO FAR, but it already has that good drama feel. Will update as time goes on. Have high hopes. Edit(22/06/18): 8 episodes in and its still great. It's not too rushed but it's not annoyingly stagnant either. They are slowly building up the story which I love. Compared to other dramas that move too quickly which causes the story to lose its novelty. This seems very much like people are putting a lot of thought and passion into it. Edit (30/06/18): (16 episodes in)It's really gaining momentum now and the story seems to be developing quite well. I realise I can't give away too much without using spoilers so I won't be updating this review often but I can definitely say this is an entertaining watch. Another thing to note is that this isn't a sappy romance and the characters aren't weaklings. Love, love, love this so far. Edit (14/07/18): so for quite some time the story seemed to be straying away from Fuyao but hang in there until about episode 30. Resolution for deep water nation does not disappoint me. Edit( reaches episode 42): it is a confusing time in the drama and some people don't like it but I am really enjoying this. I am still wondering what's going on with Fuyao and her stuff though (trying to be as vague as possible so I don't give out spoilers) Episode 56: YESSSSS. YESSS. SO CLOSE (21/08/2018)Final thoughts: I would definitely recommend this drama. It is well thought out and the characters are well developed. The actors, costumes and set were all amazing. The storyline is very balanced. Whether happy or tragic, this is a good watch.

'The Legend of Fuyao', IMO, is thee best of Chinese Drama. Features two main protagonists and (later) lovers, Yang Mi as Fuyao and Ethan Juan who plays at least three different but connected characters, battle to win over the Five Regions of ancient China - against (as usual) all odds. To say their on screen chemistry is 'amazing' is to me, an understatement. First off, the poster who wrote: 'Yang Mi never fails to deliver' is right on the money. Having followed her career these last ten years, I believe she is at the pinnacle, with such stellar TV Series as: Three Lives Three Worlds - TMoPB., The Negotiator, The Interpreter. L.O.R.D., Painted Skin, etc. under her belt. Mi literally steals every scene, whether it's her ethereal look (a somewhat different but mesmerizing beauty) and her ability to convey emotion with those big, beautiful eyes - she has Star Power and presence. 'Fuyao' is quite a long TV series, but once you get involved be prepared to hunker down and binge-watch like crazy. IMO, the last episode (No. 66!) will blow you away, and in the tradition of many Fantasy CD's - may not be what you expect for an 'ending' - is it real or Memorex?? ... The Fuyao theme is sung by Karen Mok who plays the tough but hot Detective along with Shu Qi's 'Computer Angel' in 'So Close.' Along with a truly emotional score - Fuyao (aka Yang Mi) never disappoints. 10/10. Easy call.

My first China ancient drama. I was hooked on it from ep 1. I came here for Ethan but the whole cast did great. Wish for a better ending though. Love the bromance Ethan had with the doctor and the little chubby hamster.

Terrific fantasy drama. Lots of bloody action, romance, tragedy, some comedy too. There are no great acting performances. But they are serviceable, and the two leads are good together. It's the story or stories that is the main attraction.I took breaks from it at certain points. So maybe I found it overlong, or not always compulsively watch as Korean dramas tend to be. Well I suppose that's because episodes didn't always end in a cliffhanger. I found it was a series I could leave and come back to again. I'm sure there are faults I found in it. Some of the acting might not be up to scratch. Maybe some conversations/speeches went on too long. But whatever the faults were, they were minor, and did not take away from the immense enjoyment of this wonderful series. 10/10

Wow, did not expect to enjoy this fantasy drama as much as I did. Def's in the Ashes of Love category for me! Loved the romance built up and the fighting scenes are superb. I personally love action, romance, tragedy and comedy in a drama and this one has it all. Great watch and so worth. Ethan Juan is very attractive and super eye candy in here! 10/10 rating for me.

Beautiful Yang Mi and handsome Ethan Yuan had such amazing chemistry in this series, although Yang pretty much dominates this genre notwithstanding whoever plays opposite her. I thought the series well plotted and each episode, engaging. However, parts of the story that involved the character played by Gao Wei Guang was so badly acted that I had second-hand embarrassment for Gao. I couldn't believe this was the same guy who gave us one of the best scenes in Eternal Love because he was just so bland on screen. Thankfully, the other subplots and characters made it worthwhile. Hate the ending but what can one do: you win some and lose some.

The acting in this series is next level. You will fall in love with the main characters and they will elicit feelings you didn't expect. The female lead is not only strong, she's funny and does a fantastic job in her role. The leading male is mesmerizing. I'm not a huge romance person, but you'll love these two together- their chemistry stays through the whole series and you will love their love. Great story, plot and supporting actors/actresses.
I starred a 9 because I loved it but I must concede, there was unnecessary stories in between- Although they were adventures with good acting- you could skip (approx) episodes 40-50, which are side ventures if you want to get to the culmination of the story quicker.

I think no other genre captures the imagination as much as Chinese fantasy dramas with tales of heroic feats, power struggles and orphans with mysterious backgrounds. And Legend of Fuyao does not disappoint. Yangmi and Ethan Juan are both impressive in their roles as the courageous slave Fuyao and the playful but talented Crown Prince, respectively.
