I usually avoid horror, so I missed this one when it first came out. Then it popped up on Netflix this month, and because of being confined during COVID like millions, I decided to try it. The entire cast is wonderful, the writing and direction superb. And yes it's scary in places but also deeply moving in the building of relationships, and a young person becoming what he was meant to be. However, I did think this could have been done well in 12-14 eps as the last ones felt repetitive and draggy. But I liked the series very much.

This show was all around a great watch. The horror elements were very well done - I found the first half of the show to be very scary and creepy. The soundtrack is excellent and along with very good cinematography this is a well-crafted horror drama that was compelling and held my interest to the very end. In addition there was very good acting, and a satisfying ending that made sense, tied everything together, and was deserved. I would definitely recommend this to any horror/thriller fans!

I wish many people who love maniac occult would enjoy this TV show with various languages
I tell you I'm pretty good at horror shows, occult stuff. However, this is obviously beyond most of exsting occult stuff.
This show is an accomplishment of Traditional Korean superstition and Western occult
Caution: If you have a trouble with sleep, I recommend you to avoid watching the show before get to bed. Also, if you're not that good with horror stuff, you better prepare spare panties. Do not watch the show by your own!

Guest isn't a typical Kdrama. Rather than horror the highlight of this dramas is Friendship. Every second of this drama is worth watching and there no single scene is boring or need to skip. The cinematography, acting, script, costume everything is amazing. Don't miss out this gem. One of the best korean dramas in 2018.
Other than the fact that this is not your typical K-drama, the Guest is not your typical drama either. Every episode of it will leave you on your seats, wanting more, making this one of those amusement park rides you don't want to let go of. The acting, directing and story are all woven together from end to the finish. Watch this masterpiece because it is completely worth it.

Story, acting, twist, and cinematography are very well done. You can't wait to watch next episode after every episode done. They almost make every episode feel like you watch movie, very tense horror thriller. Its really breakthrough K-drama you can watch. My self are really picky when come to matter of watch TV Show because in many case they can't hold the tension and excitement until few episode left out, but i can say "The Guest" are
managed to surpass that problem. The chemistry between three leads are very good and every scene about possessed are really creppy and believable. If you really like horror, with thriller, suspense, excorsist, i strongly suggest you to give it a shot to watch this series. Its pure tense without some unnecessary love scene like other mainstream K drama.

The story was complex but entertaining enough - if only the episodes had been 45mins each and consisted of 10 at the most.
It ended up being very very repetitive with countless red herrings being projectile vomited per episode.
I watched it because I like Dong Wook-Kim - but they made his character so stupid that it was annoying.
I also liked Ahn Nae-sang as Father Yang - you can always depend upon this veteran actor to give a good performance.
The ending was typical of the genre - one wishes for one original thinker now and again.

A policewoman, a priest and a shamanic taxi driver come together to try and stop a murderous spirit which can control other demons and make them possess normal people who then become vicious murderers. The three all have links in the past where members of their family were murdered by these demons. It is a well acted and dark series although I think it could have been shortened as my interest waned in the middle.

I really wanted to like this series. Actors are good as well as the cinematography. I also thought the main characters are great, with Detective Kang being my personal favorite. She def knows how to kick some a... even though her fighting skills seem to be almost gone by episode 6. N that's what ruined the whole series for me - the writing. First of all, I'm not sure about the cultural background but everyone at the police force apart from her seems to be completely stupid, then suddenly everyone is stupid - character decisions and reactions that make absolutely no sense at all. Worste being the demon/ spirit that keeps people alive and has his mandatory rant, just that people can be saved by some last minute deus ex machina event - it totally ruined the immersion for me. Overall a decent series with some huge plotting deficits, if u can get passed that, you're gonna have some escapism at least. As for now I'd give it a 4 if it wasn't for badass detective kang.

Interesting premise of a common horror theme - Demonic Possession. But what ruins this show are:
1. Incredibly bad chemistry between the leads. To the point you hate all three and the choices they make and their behavior towards each other.
2. Reliance on the "let's all split up and go it alone" overused horror gimmick that is needed here to generate artificial danger and advance the plot.
3. Similar to #2 is the massively overused "let's stop telling each other the truth, or communicating at all" when the danger closes in. Again, simply to move the plot along.
4. Spineless police chiefs and department heads that kowtow to politicians. Massively overused in Korean shows these days, and turns any genre, whether horror, fantasy, love story, etc., into a police corruption show. If I wanted this, I'd watch the Sopranos or something.
5. The most ridiculous chase scenes I've seen in a while. Bad guys (possessed or not) that can run 10 times faster than good guys half their age. Good guys who can't seem to run together, and after 20 seconds, end up like 1,000 meters apart and get picked off one by one. Sad.
The list goes on. Truly a chore to watch.

OCN produced a modern horror classic in 'The Guest'. High production value, solid storytelling, memorable acting and a unique blend of Korean shamanism & Catholic tradition. The pilot episode (ep.1) is arguably the most perfect pilot episode in Kdrama history. The tension in the story builds up and up and reaches a satisfying climax and conclusion. Recommended.

I really enjoyed this tv show. It was scary at times but never too much.
The story was well written and the last episode was particularly good.
Definitely worth watching.

It took my some time and a lot of thinking to start this one as I thought a horror centred plot wouldn't interest me. But obviously I was wrong. I enjoyed each episode of it, well done characters with no extra/irrational traits. Would've loved to have an extra episode of the 3 friends (main characters) just having free time and enjoying life. The ending was a bit rushed but I feel that's the case with most of kdramas. Can't complain tho. Had fun watching it, really recommend.

Reviews that I have ever seen reviewing a film/series on IMDB. Seriously nearly every single one has only one review by the reviewer and guess what...they are almost all 10s!!!!!!!!!!!
Now for a legit review. It is a good series. It is a bit on the gory side so if that bothers you either fast forward or deal with it. I do like the fact that there are not so many goofy comic effect moments that you see in so many of these series as well.

One of the best shows out there on Netflix. Engaging from the beginning till the very last minute. Every episode is brilliant.
The story line is good, cinematography is on point, found it too bloody for a South Korean show but at least they blurred out most parts. The sadness for the main character is a lot, was relieved to see one relative survive. At episode 14, I was like "am tired just end this, the suspense is now just tiring". Everyone dies so why am I still watching, and the a so called Christian who gets possessed was never a real one to start with.
That Priest Matthew was never shown praying 😂 not once, just modeling. He walked like a ruler and acted robotic but it kinda suited him, too cold to be a Father though. As for the other father I am sure he drank more than he worked, no wonder he gave up doing exorcisms. The female cop, was good. Always one female cop in the police force, wonder why. Main character could be american, never listens and never knows anything 😂. But good actor.
I always suspected that guy to be the evil demon.
A Catholic father whom demons place a curse on 😂. Really! And the repeating was abit much..."if you see as a third time ...."and runs away from excosims ..hahaha
How do you burry someone then go around chasing them like you didn't burry them yesterday... seriously.
They sure had the least number of extras, even on the streets there was no one except the actors 😂
The way this guy's love to pocket is amazing.
Overall, watch it, Koreans never fail to have an actual non-prolonged story line. Always on point.

What an amazing series. The storyline was brilliant and griping until the very end. The acting was some of the best ive seen and it kept me guessing the whole time. The 3 exude friendship and love in a way that is not conveyed through the physical. Easily one of the best series ive watched

Nothing that was really outstanding with this series. It was like "Fast food/drive-thru" exorcisms. One character says exorcisms would take months or years. Anyway, it's always fun to see how the writers have the characters get out of weird situations.
It was okay to watch because I had the feeling that it was going to be fairly predictable.

One of the best horror series I have seen! Although some of the plot device were very frustrating; especially the one where people did not communicate with each other. But that is a plot device used in most horror movies/series. In this case it just would've made a shorter series. It still leaves it - awesome.
Great story and acting. Primarily a drama with some horror. I binge watched it on Netflix. Shows rarely reel me in like this. Highly recommend!

I am still watching this amazingly fantastically good show. i am in Ep3 and wishing the series don't end. I can't get enough of it. I watched alot of K-Drama in Netflix, Crash landing on you, Under the rain etcetc. Each one is good on its own category. This one ranks one of the top ten, that's why I gave it a ten.
The acting is great, photography is top-class, equal to any Hollywood can offer. No expense spared to bring the audience to seaside, to the wide open fields, to dungeon, dives, dirty smelly tunnels. The list goes on. The Production goes the whole nine yards to deliver a high class horror movie, not filled with blood and gore, but enough to keep the viewer at the of the seat. It's that good. I'm gushing I know, and I'm unshyingly admitting it. Don't believe, go check it out, see if you don't agree. finish at least two episode and see if your tongue don't droll for more more more. who knows, you may even overtake me in your binge. Enjoy. Thank me later.
